Chapter 1020: 1020 Celebration

A knock at the door let them know that the party was started, and the guests were starting to arrive.

The parliament building was a flurry of activity as the rain mitigation was put out, keeping the visiting celebrities from having their outfits damaged, though the red carpet walk into the building was under an awning so that they didn’t sweat in the desert sun during the day.

Anyone who was anyone in Gormana had done their best to be here for this event, and the airport was packed with private jets, while the Capital City didn’t have a single limo or sedan car left to rent.

It was great for the Capital’s economy, but not as impressive as the boom that would be coming over the rest of the winter, once they were able to bring factories online, and they learned that the merchants of the Frozen Wastes had buyers for all sorts of electronics and other entertainment devices that were either hardened against mana interference, or not affected by it.

They had a number of children’s games that the people of the Wastes didn’t know about, and Wolfe was certain they would catch on quickly once the factories in Gormana could make enough of them to distribute them outside their borders.

But more importantly, he had every intention of taking advantage of their deal with the Fallen Empire to bring the people to his side with shiny objects before they started getting ideas about breaking their deal and attacking anyhow.

“So, do we go out with the crowd, or do we make a grand entrance from the side door once everyone is inside? What’s the local custom?” Wolfe asked.

“Normally, we would enter together, host and guests of honour. How is it done in Forest Grove?” The Prime Minister asked.

Wolfe shrugged and Cassie laughed. “We don’t really do formal. We will just fly down from the upper levels onto the stage between shows if we want to address the city during an event.”

“You don’t do formal events? No exclusive galas, banquets, high society functions?” The Rencland representative gasped.

“Nope. There are so many powerful people in Forest Grove that we would have to invite half the city, and the other half would be working the function, so we just make the events public, and then do private dinners during them before returning to the bigger party.” Ella explained.

“What a wonderful idea. I don’t think that it would work in a city this large, but perhaps holding more events at festivals would be a good idea. People never get a chance to actually see leaders and celebrities, and while there is a security risk to it, it would make us seem more relatable.” The Gormana Prime Minister pondered.

Hassan laughed, and the Prime Minister gave the Demon a confused look.

“You forget that these outfits we’re wearing are armour spells. You could shoot Saint Noxus with an artillery cannon from point-blank range, and you wouldn’t even singe his robes. With magic, the security risks are very low, as long as you have security to prevent something like a kidnapping.” Hassan explained.

“Kidnapping?” The confused politician asked.

The Incubus smirked. “Sure, if their armour is created by a bodyguard, you just need to grab them and keep them away until it wears off, right? It might be nearly impossible to harm them until then, but you can still steal them. Wolfe just grabs his Witches for extracurricular activities all the time.”

Wolfe laughed, while Cassie smacked him in the side, and the politicians looked scandalized.

Ella chuckled. “It takes some time to get used to the open and forward nature of the Lust Demons. They don’t consider the relations between intimate partners to be shameful, and we are his wives.”

The politicians all sighed. “See, it’s the cultural differences that we have the most issues with. The human nations on the East Coast all maintained communications with each other, but even when they were launching raids into the Witch Covens, nobody really knew anything about them as a culture.”

Ella shook her head. “No, this is more of a demon and Magi thing. Multiple wives are very uncommon with the witches. Multiple husbands are more the normal, as the female witches have the power in the Covens.”

One of the women in the Gormana Government group perked up at the mention of multiple husbands, and the Demons didn’t miss the interest. Getting the humans adapted to their ways might not be so hard, once they learned how to phrase them in more acceptable ways.

A knock at the door informed them that the guests had assembled, and it was their turn to head into the reception area, where the cameras would be waiting for them to pass by before they entered the main party.

Wolfe moved to stand between Cassie and Ella, who held hands behind his back, looking forward to the chaos they could cause on the news that evening. The Prime Minister led the group out, and the others were in single file, so the trio immediately caught the attention of the reporters.

Wolfe alternately lifted hands to wave at the reporters on either side of them, stopping every few steps so that Cassie and Ella could pose for the cameras.

How they managed to make it inside the party before giving in to the urge to laugh was a mystery to them all because the Demons who came in behind them certainly hadn’t managed to last that long, and had only tried to play off their amusement as joy at a successful mission.

“Maybe we don’t need to work on our delivery. We just need to send the finest of drama queens in first, and then we will seem subdued and reasonable. How do you out Incubus an Incubus?” Galrog joked as he joined them.

“I think that Hassan is like Rail, one of those subdued Lust Demons, who takes their professionalism much more seriously than others do. You should see her at work in her blazer and knee-high boots.” Wolfe replied.

Galrog nodded. “I have met the Lady Rail. If it wasn’t for the tail and wings, I would have thought she was not a Succubus at all.”

Hassan looked excited about the news. “You know a Succubus who can actually act professional all day? I can barely keep up the act for an hour at a time.”

Wolfe shook his head. “It’s not even an act. It’s her life mission to prove that a Succubus can succeed on her professional merits alone.”
