“Yes,” Yu Le nodded without hesitation. “So you don’t have to worry about Old Master Tong, he will not say anything and even if he wants to say something, you can simply ignore him.”
Yu Jiao Yu nodded. In fact, he had long wanted to go back to his maternal home but he was worried that if he returned his mother and Old Master Tong would have another set of quarrels and squabbles.
He was already married and he did not want his mother to be troubled because of him, who had already been married off.
Thus, he had been delaying his return again and again.
He heaved a sigh of relief before turning to look at his sixth son, Li Cui.
“Cui Cui, what happened between your mother and aunt?” He asked. Earlier they were in a hurry and he did not get a chance to ask what was going on with his wife and the offer that his sister-in-law had made to Li Hanyang.
Li Cui pursed his lips and then parted them a second later before replying, “My aunt said that she is going to introduce us to some work, she asked Mother to send us to the west along with her but there is something wrong Daddy.”
“She was actually willing to hand three hundred taeks to our mother as commission. Why would aunt offer such a big sum of money to our mother? Aunt has always been a miser!”
Indeed Gao Ci had always been a miser and stingy woman. Forget about taking three hundred taels, she would never even take out three taels. Even when they went to her house at the new year, she would actually hand red packets with a copper coin to his son and the daughters of his wife would get two coins.
That too when his father-in-law brought a big and heavy chicken back with him to his brother-in-law’s house. If not then Yu Jiao Yu could forget about getting copper coins. In case they went empty-handed then their family would be served just a coarse pancake with boiled water.
A woman like her was suddenly taking out more than three hundred taels in exchange for sending his mer sons to the West. Definitely, there had to be something wrong about this situation.
“It must be a trap,” Yu Le who heard it said with a frown. “How could there be such a good thing? Who would give three hundred taels for a mer who is going to work as a nanny and companion?” He said these words deliberately as he was worried that his brother would not see through the scheme that his sister-in-law was planning.
“And even if there is a job like that, how could your wife agree? She should have at least investigated the job and situation, but she agreed right away like that. Isn’t she asking for trouble to come knocking on her door?” He added in a subtle voice.
Yu Le did not want his brother to divorce his wife but having heard from Li Cui what Li Hanyang was trying to do, he did not want Yu Jiao Yu to go back to the Li house.
No wonder that woman was so adamant about letting her mer sons go and work in the West. There was a commission of three hundred taels. No wonder her heart was bleeding when they told her that they were taking Yu Jiao Yu and his sons away.
If it was just Yu Jiao Yu then Li Hanyan would not have said a word. She would have instead agreed wholeheartedly because that would have made things easier.
Good thing that they brought his nephews along!
If not, who knows what and where that woman would have sent his nephews to?
Yu Jiao Yu thought the same. When he thought about how his wife agreed to send his sons to the West for heavens knows what job, his expression went taut and his fingers clenched in his lap.
That woman, he thought that she had a bit of restraint and bottom limit turned out he was the one who gave her too much credit. That woman was simply beyond the realm of unreasonable.
Earlier Yu Jiao Yu did not have the courage to separate from his wife but now he thought it was better to leave the Li house. What if he left the house to wash the clothes or pick the wild vegetables and his wife took advantage of his absence?
What was more, he was just a mer. What could he do against his wife? He could and would of course resist if she tried something like this again but the strength of a mer was weakest when compared to men and women.
He would be defeated in seconds, not to mention the one behind this scheme was Gao Ci and that woman had never given him a good look.
She had always tried to do something to him behind the back of his brother-in-law and Li Hanyang. He couldn’t even do anything as he knew that his brother-in-law who was besotted and bewitched by Gao Ci would blame him and that would not be good for his reputation.
He had stayed with his wife for so long because of his sons but now if his sons were in danger because of his wife, what was the point of staying with that woman?
He would simply be ruining the future of his sons if he were to go back to the Li house!
Yu Jiao Yu didn’t say it but he seemed to have come to a decision.
The carriage drove for a while before coming to a stop at the Kong Inn. There was no choice, it was already too late and Yu Dong did not want to tire the children, especially Yu Mai who was already clamoring that he was hungry.
However, as soon as she came down the carriage she ran into a mer who was rushing inside the inn.
