Li Hanyang didn’t know what happened to Yu Dong or how she got her hands on so much money but she did not believe that it was from legitimate sources. Yu Dong was such a troublemaker how could she earn so much money that too legitimately?
Wait—what if Yu Dong came to take her sons away and was planning to send them off somewhere? Would she not lose her money? No this won’t do! She had to go and bring her mer sons back.
She needed those three hundred taels of silver! There was no way she was going to lose them. She would have to follow them to the big river village and ask Old Master Tong to let her bring back her sons.
As for Yu Jiao Yu, he could stay in that village, since he wanted to leave so much he might as well not come back.
She will send her sons away that way much more easily!
As for her other mer sons? They were her darlings’ sons how could she bear to send them away?
“Brother Le, thank you,” after getting out of the Li house, Yu Jiao Yu felt like he could breathe again. He was really terrified just now, he thought that his wife would convince Yu Dong and the two of them would send his mer sons away.
“There is no need to thank me, I did nothing,” said Yu Le with a chuckle. “If not for Little Dong, I don’t think your wife would let you go so easily.”
Indeed the reason Li Hanyang stayed quiet was because she was scared of Yu Dong. If it was Yu Le, that woman would not have stayed so silent.
Yu Jiao Yu glanced at Yu Dong who had climbed the front of the large carriage that she brought with her and then turned to look at Yu Le. “Brother, what is going on? Since when did Dong Dong start standing up for us?”
“A lot of things have changed,” said Yu Le with a smile on his face. “Dong Dong has changed and a lot of things have also changed. Just you wait, once we return home, you will see.”
Yu Jiao Yu did not understand what Yu Le was trying to say. However, he still nodded and then followed his brother who climbed inside the carriage.
“Second uncle!” A voice called Yu Jiao Yu at once when he opened the door and two seconds later he felt a chubby ball rush and hug him.
“Mai?” Yu Jiao Yu guessed as he looked down at the mer who was so fat that he was having trouble hugging him.
“It is Mai, second uncle!” Yu Mai raised his head from Yu Jiao Yu’s waist, he frowned and asked, “Did you forget Mai?”
“No, how could I?” Yu Jiao Yu hurriedly corrected the blunder he had made, he ushered his sons to get on the carriage before he too climbed in and soon the carriage was moving. He was holding Yu Mai in his arms and was stunned to see that the mer seemed to be doing really well.
His skin was white as snow and his eyes were twinkling with life, there was no timidity of the past and he was wider than taller which showed that he had been eating well.
Which was something given that Yu Dong had never liked Yu Mai.
“It’s just that Mai had grown up so much that uncle couldn’t recognise you,” Yu Jiao Yu said to little Yu Mai who snorted but looked pacified when he heard that he had grown. How could he not? Everyone said that he was small and fat, but he did not like it. So now that his second uncle said that he had grown, he was really happy!
“How have you been?” Yu Le asked while looking at his brother and his nephews. He could see that their lives were hard at the Li house but still wanted to know how his nephews and brother had been living.
“I don’t know,” Yu Jiao Yu answered honestly as he truly had no idea how he had been living his life till now. “I just —lived somehow. After all, dying was never an option, was it?” He added with a little aggrieved smile on his face.
There were times when he indeed wanted to die but could not as he had children to care for, if he had died then his wife would have certainly not treated his sons well. She would have ruined them in much worse ways.
So, he could only grit his teeth and continue living at least that way he could at least protect his sons.
“Oh, Jiao Jiao,” Yu Le stood up and then sat next to Yu Jiao Yu. He wrapped his arm around Yu Jiao Yu’s shoulders and said to him, “It is alright, you will be fine now.”
Yu Jiao Yu nodded. He then turned to look at his brother and remarked, “Sister-in-law must be doing well, you seem to be happy, Brother Le.”
At the mention of his wife, Yu Le’s expression turned dark. He replied, “Oh she must be fine—I don’t know though I divorced her long ago.”
“Divorced?” Yu Jiao Yu’s eyes widened when he looked at his brother. “You—You divorced sister-in-law?”
“Don’t look so surprised,” said Yu Le with a calm voice. “If I had a choice then I would have not divorced her but she did something that left me with no choice.”
When Yu Jiao Yu heard the words of his brother, he clenched his fingers. He blinked his eyes and said, “Daddy would not have liked it, right?”
“Hah! Who cares whether he liked it or not? He is no longer married to our mother,” Yu Le told Yu Jiao Yu as he relayed what happened between Old Master Tong and Old Madam Yu.
“He did such a thing?” Yu Jiao Yu was livid when he heard that Old Master Tong almost killed their mother and even cheated on her during their marriage.
