“You—you are barking mad!” Li Hanyang was shocked silly when she heard Yu Dong say that she was going to call the yamen. Even though she did not know what kind of business Gao Ci was doing in the West, she knew that it was not legal and proper. She knew that it was a trap.
She just wanted to send her mer sons away such that she would not have to listen to the scathing and nasty remarks of the villagers. They have been calling her many names as she could not marry off her eldest son who was already passing the ideal age of getting married.
Maybe she could even earn the sympathy of some.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Dong asked with a raise of her brows. “If this business is so wonderful, there is no need for you to worry about Yamen’s officer, is it? Anyway, this is something that must be done, what if the job that you speak of so fondly is a trap? Wouldn’t it cause trouble for my cousins then?”
Anyway, she was not going to let Li Hanyang sit back and enjoy the fruits of her mer sons.
Yu Jiao Yu glanced at Yu Dong and was rather stunned. Earlier he was terrified as he thought that Yu Dong would agree with Li Hanyang and even send her own husbands to the west as she had always been quick to jump on the wagon of getting quick benefits.
Who would have thought that Yu Dong would actually fight back against Li Hanyang!?
He looked at her in disbelief before turning to look at Yu Le who nodded and patted him on the back of his hand, asking him to stay quiet and leave everything to Yu Dong.
“Yu Dong! Don’t be so nosy!” Li Hanyang said angrily. “You —how can you just investigate the business of someone? Isn’t it a bit too much? If you call Yamen officers on them wouldn’t their business be affected?”
“Not to mention that they are my sons! And I can do whatever I want to do with them—”
CRACK!
Yu Dong banged her hand on the table which smashed into bits, she hadn’t even touched it properly but she caused the entire thing to fall and shatter to pieces with the smallest touch.
“If you want to act like a tyrant then go ahead,” Yu Dong sneered. “If you dare send even one of my cousins to the west, I will break every bone in your body like this— and unless they return, I will come back and break your healing bones again and again and again, until I see my cousin back. Safe and sound.”
“If they miss a strand of their hair, I will rip your hair out of your skull.”
“If they are injured, I will cut your skin until you are a breath away from death.”
“And,” she narrowed her eyes and added in a ghostly whisper. “If something unpleasant happens to them, I will make you rue the day you decide that you will send them away. Got it?”
“Don’t think that I will not know what you are doing to them or my second uncle because I will,” Yu Dong said to Li Hanyang and Old Master Li who were huddled together. “The moral of this story is that you are not allowed to send my cousin anywhere. If I see you do it, I will make you live in hell on this very land without sending you to the underworld.”
She then turned to look at the mers who were peering out of the other room. They all were dressed lavishly while her second uncle was dressed like a beggar. Her eyes narrowed and Yu Dong added, “Anyway, if it is a good thing send your other mer sons. After all, you don’t lack them, right? However, my cousins are off limits.”
The six mer sons were stunned when they saw Yu Dong stand up for them. Their eyes turned red-rimmed as they dropped their heads, no one had stood up for them like this other than their daddy. They were bullied by their half siblings and yet their mother remained biased.
In fact, they did not even want to go to the west but with their mother acting so stubborn they were certain that they would have to leave their home and their daddy.
Now that their elder cousin had stood up for them, they were more than happy and relieved.
“You—You, I will complain to the yamen about you!” Li Hanyang shouted while pointing at Yu Dong.
“Then go ahead,” Yu Dong sneered with a mocking expression. “I can’t wait for you to complain to the Yamen officers.”
She then turned to look at her second uncle and her six cousins. Yu Dong said to them, “Go and get your bags, we will be leaving in ten minutes. I would like to see who will stop us.” She added in a threatening manner while looking at Li Hanyang.
Yu Jiao Yu was indeed surprised when he saw that his niece had become this articulate but when he heard her say that they needed to pack their bags, he did not delay and immediately went to pack his bags along with his sons.
He was afraid that if he was a step slow, his wife would stop him or his sons.
However, Yu Jiao Yu was thinking too much. His wife and father-in-law were scared silly by Yu Dong and her rogue-like manners. They did not say anything much less stop them, they just glared at him hatefully as if accusing him of bringing such a troublemaker to their home.
Yu Jiao Yu did not care about their glares and rushed out of the house ushering his sons to come with him as quickly as possible.
By the time they left, Li Hanyang also reacted. She looked at the broken dining table and screamed angrily, “She did not pay for this table!”
