“Ah!” The mer did not expect to run into someone, his eyes widened and he opened his mouth to scold the person but stopped when he saw the woman who stood in front of him.

The mer was none other than the Third Brother Xiao, the brother of Master Xiao. He came to the Inn because he wanted to ask his brother to look for a match for him. His parents had been making him meet with all kinds of women but none of them suited Third Brother Xiao’s tastes.

How could they? Those women were too old and ugly. Some were good but they were not rich enough. Third Brother Xiao wanted to marry a woman as good as his sister-in-law, that way he would be able to live a good life.

And he was not a fool like his brother who would continue to support their family even though they had done nothing for them.

Inside the inn, Madam Kong was holding Yu Dong’s hands and shaking them with a jovial smile on her face. “I am so glad that you came back, Sister Yu. I was just thinking about whether to come and see you in a few days. I couldn’t even thank you properly that night because of some —things.” Her expression shifted to a darker one but she hitched the smile on her lips back again.

Yu Dong did not say anything as this was not her place to make remarks about someone else’s husband. She simply smiled and said, “There is no need to thank me. I just did what I needed to do if possible I would like a few rooms as you can see our members have grown significantly.”

She waved her hands at the six mers who looked rather timid yet curious as they looked around the inn with eager eyes.

“Don’t worry, Sister Yu! Did I not say that you are our VVIP customer now? You can request a bull to be roasted if that’s what you want and we will do just that, it’s because of your brother and you that I was able to find my daughters,” she said thickly. “I will not forget the gratitude so easily. I am not such an ungrateful person. You saved my daughters from being sold off as slaves,”

Yu Dong wanted to say that there was no need but she knew that Madam Kong would not hear a single word, so she could only smile.

“Brother Mai!”

“Mai!”

Kong Pili and Kong Li were learning how to cook dumplings from Guo Zian when they heard that Yu Mai was back at their inn to stay. Thus, they rushed out with Guo Zian.

“Sister Pili! Sister Li!” Yu Mai rushed to meet with the two sisters as well. The three of them hopped around in a circle as they held each other’s hands.

Yu Dong and Madam Kong smiled at their actions.

Leaving the kids to play among themselves, the two women arranged for the stay. Yu Dong did not want to stay for long but Madam Kong insisted that she wanted to show the city to Yu Dong.

At first, Yu Dong wanted to refuse but then she saw that her cousins’ clothes were patched and frayed. Seeing that they looked rather odd, she agreed thinking that she would buy some clothes at the city market before leaving.

“Then I will take you to the small market in the centre of the city. It’s really a good place to buy cheap yet quality things,” said Madam Kong.

“You shouldn’t trouble yourself, Sister Kong,” said Yu Dong with a light-hearted smile on her face. “You have to take care of the inn, I can go to the market on my own. You don’t have to leave your work because of me .”

“There is no trouble at all,” Madam Kong waved her hand. How could it be a trouble? Without Yu Dong, she would have lost her two daughters. There was no way she would forgive herself if something like this happened.

She was so grateful for Yu Dong’s help that she did not know what to do to repay her. How could she find such a small thing as a bother? Not to mention that there were more than enough servants who could take care of the Inn when she was not here.

Seeing that she was more than willing to come with her, Yu Dong did not stop Madam Kong. After all, it would not be right if she continued to refuse Madam Kong again and again.

Especially when she was this eager.

However, only if Yu Dong knew the mess that she would have to face the next morning she would not have agreed to let Madam Kong come with her at all.
