Chapter 3490: The Device
Roan made full use of the fact they had Qwerty on their side. It didn’t matter if the SANS Units thought Roan was probably bluffing; they had to take the bait. Otherwise, the minimal possibility that he had Qwerty with him during the attacks had to be countered.
During this time, Roan also learned how the robots worked. Even the combat units didn’t know much about strategy. Roan wondered if that was a mistake in the robots’ production or if the gain of sentience made them just like any normal person. Since the so-called ’creators’ had been gone for a long time, no one ever really taught the robots how strategy works.
But then again, the truth couldn’t be denied. There were just way too many SANS Units, and most of them were always at the Zoshia Enterprise Building. Each one had at least a power equivalent to a Void Tempering Realm, with some as strong as Elemental Space Realm experts. It was simply impossible to use whatever strategy to get inside with Qwerty.
Six months, that’s what it took for Rean, Zangeshu, and CAU007R83 to finally end their project. Rean and Zageshu used this time to understand how the robots worked, to learn about their codes, and how the system that connected the robots operated.
Finally, those two used the robots’ materials to create a new device, one very similar to the collar Qwerty used.
The collar the CAU Units gave Qwerty could protect him from the loyalty-ensuring code. Thanks to that, he wouldn’t lose his control again. Rean and Zangeshu’s device also had that power. However, it didn’t stop there.
"Will it work?" Roan looked at the big box. It was made of the same material as the robots and their serves and system codes. He didn’t know how it worked, but he only needed to know it wasn’t a failure.
"It should work," Zangeshu nodded, taking it back and sending his Divine Sense inside.
One of the things Rean and Zangeshu worked on was how to make the robots’ materials accept Divine Sense. So far, they completely blocked any Divine Sense readings, and that made it hard to work with. Fortunately, CAU007R83 knew very well how the production and all the codes in the system of the manufacturing facilities worked, and that helped Zangeshu and Rean come up with a way for the material to accept Divine Sense.
Of course, that only applied to the Device Rean and Zangeshu made. The robots were still immune to Divine Senses.
The box lit up, and many specs of yellow lights began to emanate from it. If one looked with a microscope, one would see millions of microrunes. Those runes were very different from anything Rean and Zangeshu had worked on before, and to be fair, Rean and Zangeshu found those runes pretty useless.
Turns out that those runes would only be useful for the robots and things made of that material. The robots weren’t exactly as resistant as the weapons Rean could make, for example, so using those kinds of materials for attack or protection wasn’t as good as the runes and materials Zangeshu and Rean used to use before. Of course, it didn’t mean they were bad, Rean could just make better ones. That’s also why some of the robots were as strong as Elemental Space Realm experts. The materials they were made of were good enough for them to hold that kind of power.
However, even though these materials and runes were not of much use to Rean and Zangeshu outside the Evernight World, in the SANS City, this device would play a pivotal role.
Qwerty got close to it, and he could feel the influence of the device. "Impressive... It feels exactly how I felt when I arrived for the first time."
To Roan, that was more than enough. "If even a unit like you is affected to that extent, then the other units should be even more so. What’s the range?"
"10 kilometers," Rean answered.
"The Zoshia Enterprise Building is only five kilometers wide, so this is more than enough," Roan nodded, satisfied. "Can you make more?"
"No," Rean shook his head. "It required the core of hundreds of units to make a single one. That’s why it can cover 10 kilometers. Unless you manage to acquire a lot more of those units without sentience fast, it will take a long time to make another."
Kentucky pointed at CAU431, who had been there to ’protect’ CAU007R83 during all this time. Well, Rean and Zangeshu never had any intention to do anything against the guy, so CAU431’s presence was pretty meaningless. "Can’t we use his core? It is all for the cause, isn’t it?"
"Eh?!" CAU431 quickly took several steps back. "I offered myself before and you didn’t want it. I’m not doing that anymore!"
"Hahaha!" Rean just laughed. "He is playing with you. Anyway, Morty, what do you want to do? If you have some way of acquiring a lot more of those units without sentience or stealing the facility where the cores are made, then I can make more of these devices."
Roan immediately discarded the idea. "The facility where the cores are made is pretty close to the Zoshia Enterprise Building itself. Obviously, it is impossible to attack that place, and the plan to use this device will only work once. As for acquiring more of the ’empty shell’ units, that will take years. Even with me in the command, we are barely making any profits with the attacks. The SANS Units are truly defending with all their power, and they are learning fast, so it becomes harder with each attack. That said, there is no need to wait. We will bring the device and Qwerty with us during the next attack."
CAU03 received the message from Roan, and he went to check this device that could mess with the SANS City system. After experiencing it himself, he couldn’t help but ask. "Just... how...? How can you bypass all the security protocols?"
He said it before. Even though he let Rean and Zangeshu work and learn about how their system and codes worked, as well as how their materials were made, he didn’t believe Rean and Zangeshu could create anything capable of messing with the system. He only did that because he didn’t have any other choice, and since then, Roan had indeed helped them a lot to keep afloat.
Rean faintly smiled, but he didn’t explain. "That’s a little secret. Besides, I believe it will not be a good thing if others find out about it. Once we are done here, I will leave this device with you, and you can do whatever you want. To be honest, I think the best thing you can do is destroy it."
CAU03 pondered about Rean’s words and had to admit he made sense. If the device could mess with their system, it would indeed be better if it ceased to exist once they get rid of all the robots’ loyalty-ensuring codes. "Very well. I want to see what you intend to use this thing for."
---
Just like the previous attacks, they waited until the next month and selected a random day to attack SANS City. Rean, Roan, Celis, Kentucky, and even Rifindio were there now. Only Zangeshu wouldn’t participate directly. Instead, Zangeshu would control the device from inside the Dimensional Realm once it was planted near the Zoshia Enterprise Building.
"Won’t your bat friend be affected by the city’s security system?" CAU431 asked, looking at Rifindio. The twins, Celis, and Kentucky, seemed to have a way to counter that, but Rifindio wasn’t the case.
Rean patted Rifindio, not concerned at all. "Don’t worry. He is now immune to that as well." Since Rean could fool the Werdlem Empire System so he could take new identities, why couldn’t he do the same here? He worked on another device as well, which made Rifindio be seen as another robot, and all robots were immune to that special power that isolated enemies from the cultivation energies of the world.
"Okay, enough with that," Roan took the front, looking at all the CAU Units gathered there. This time, everyone was participating in this attack. "Let’s pay a visit to that so-called Zoshia Enterprise."
