Death... and me

Chapter 3489: Be Ready

Chapter 3489: Be Ready

Why were there just a few SANS Units defending that position? That’s because of CAU55TW8’s group, where Celis and Kentucky were present. They made it so much harder for the SANS Units to attack them, and they kept that defensive battle formation while they slowly approached the city’s barrier ahead.

Because of that, the certainty the SANS Units had that Qwerty was in that group increased more and more. Thus, the many SANS Units that were still behind the barrier moved, stopping right behind where CAU55TW8’s group would attack the barrier. If they opened a hole in the barrier and CAU55TW8’s group entered, the SANS Units would all be there to intercept them.

That, however, caused the SANS Units in the surroundings to pretty much disappear, and that’s what Roan planned. Celis and Kentucky’s Domains were perfect to catch the SANS Units’ attention, especially if they pretended they wanted to enter the city by forcing their way forward.

Besides, the location of CAU55TW8’s group was the most optimal if they wanted to charge at the Zoshia Enterprise Building in the center of the city, although that was still very far. Turns out that Celis and Kentucky were there only to lure the enemy, including the enemy hiding behind the barrier.

Roan knew that CAU03 could command his robots and could even open a hole in the barrier with time. But that would be meaningless since there were always many SANS Units waiting for them behind it. If they didn’t find a way to have a clear path, opening a hole in the barrier was meaningless.

Of course, the SANS Units immediately noticed that sudden change and began to fly back. Not only them but also many more units from further inside the city as well. Roan wasn’t an idiot. That’s why he said to his group that they had one minute. In one minute, they had to attack the manufacturing facility, take as many materials, parts, etc, as possible, and come out. In the end, the CAU Units simply didn’t have the numbers to hold for long. If they tried to stay to get more, they would most likely suffer the consequences.

-30 seconds! Regardless of what or how much you got in the facility, come out straight away. If you don’t, I will not hold the barrier open. You will be trapped inside on your own!-

Roan’s orders were direct and cold. He truly had no intention of waiting for any of the robots that didn’t make it back in time. Finally, the thirty seconds were over, and Roan immediately jumped out of the way. His Dark and Light Element also disappeared, and the city barrier quickly recovered, closing that hole completely. A few seconds later, the SANS Units arrived, but they didn’t charge out of the city, afraid there could be some other trap waiting for them again.

-Objective concluded! All units, retreat!-

Roan didn’t waste time, telling everyone to get out of there. He even brought the rear with his group, making sure the SANS Units that were still outside couldn’t hold them back. Finally, they crossed the city range border, coming out of it. The attack was finally over, and the SANS Units couldn’t follow them beyond that point.

Later that day, Roan gave the command of the CAU Units back to CAU03. "This should be enough for now. We will attack again next month on a random day. Use all the materials and parts we acquired today to fix everyone who needs maintenance."

"Wait!" CAU03 stopped him.

Roan turned back, waiting for CAU03 to speak.

"This doesn’t mean I now trust you, but I’m not an idiot who can’t acknowledge results. This plan of yours got us all the repair and maintenance materials we needed after so many losses. For that, I thank you. Also, please take command of the units again next time," CAU03 said with some difficulty. "But I still have my eyes on you."

Roan nodded slightly. "As you should. Don’t worry; I will take control next time and make sure we have the least amount of casualties as possible. With today’s performance, it is possible that you actually get quite a few extra CAU Units."

CAU03 nodded and quickly left. He might be thankful, but he still didn’t enjoy the presence of living beings.

Back in the workshop where Rean was working with Zangeshu, Roan arrived to take a look at their progress.

Qwerty was also there, so he passed him a pile of materials. "Here, take it. See if any of this works for you."

Qwerty took them, checking all the raw materials and parts found there. However, he shook his head in the end. "Sorry, Morty, but these ones aren’t compatible with me either."

After that day, when they first arrived in SANS City, Qwerty was hit by the Spider Robots many times, and his body had quite a few cracks. Although his functions were still working, they were affected by the damage.

Of course, the CAU Units immediately tried to share their spare parts and raw materials so Qwerty could have himself fixed. Unfortunately, nothing they had there seemed to be useful. Qwerty was a HAF100, considered to be the best unit. Turns out that the very basic materials and parts available for the other robots were useless to him due to that same reason.

Roan asked his CAU Units robots to try to acquire the best parts possible during the last attack, and perhaps Qwerty could use some of them. In the end, it didn’t seem to work. "Seems like the only way to get you fixed is to take control over the manufacturing facilities in SANS City to make the parts and raw material you need..."

"Sorry..." Qwerty couldn’t help but feel apologetic. He didn’t even go to take part in the last battle, as Roan was afraid he might get even more damaged. Qwerty is necessary to take over the Zoshia Enterprise, so Roan told him he couldn’t come.

Roan just waved his hand, seemingly unbothered by that. "Whatever. Just be ready when the time comes."
