Chapter 3436: You Know The Answer
"No...thing?" Rean massaged the space between his eyes, trying to understand. "What do you mean by nothing? That is the most important part."
Yet, Lotan didn’t seem the least bit concerned. "Before I answer that, tell me, what do you know about our Divine Snow Mountain Sect in the Divine Snow World?"
Rean didn’t see where Lotan was trying to go, but he spoke what he knew about them. "Well, I’ve heard that the Divine Snow Mountain Sect is one of the strongest powers in the Divine Snow World, on par even with the Inquisition Hall. Other than that, I don’t really know much." Actually, what Rean heard was that the Divine Snow Mountain Sect was the strongest power, but that’s because others didn’t know the Inquisition Hall’s real identity and connections.
"Exactly," Lotan confirmed Rean’s words. "We are on par with the Inquisition Hall. Yet, since the Inquisition Hall is connected to the Werdlem Empire, how can we hold a position as strong as theirs? Even if the Inquisition Hall’s power and its connection with the Werdlem Empire is a secret to most of the populace, it is not the case for experts around my level. Yet, we are still seen as a power equivalent to the Inquisition Hall in our midst. Does that make any sense?"
"This..." Rean had to admit Lotan was right. How could they still be considered to have the same power if the Inquisition Hall could block their Werdlem Stones anytime they wanted? It truly didn’t make any sense. "What have you done?"
Too bad Lotan didn’t tell Rean. "At the moment, all I can tell you is that we don’t need to worry about our Werdlem Stones being blocked. That’s all. Of course, that is only true as long as you are an officially registered member of the Divine Snow Mountain Sect. Fortunately, that’s exactly what you are."
Rean narrowed his eyes. He could think about a few possibilities, the main being that the sect had some connection with the Supreme Palace or at least the Inquisition Hall’s higher-ups. Unfortunately, that wasn’t something Rean could get an answer for. "Whatever. Since you have a way of keeping us out of that situation, then we can talk about the next part. So... what the hell are those robots?"
"They are our pass to get through the Evernight World. Without them, it will be impossible to reach the other side. As I said, only those with exceptional Light Element Abilities can wake them up."
"I guessed that part already," Rean said while shaking his head. "What I want to know what they are. Why only they can be used? Something tells me they were not built by your sect. Otherwise, you would have more of them, and they wouldn’t need such a requirement to wake up. Also, you seem to only have four from what I’m seeing on these screens."
Lotan slightly nodded, although he didn’t expect Rean to notice the truth that easily. "You are correct. We didn’t build them. We got them in the Evernight World. Or, to be more specific, we barely entered it and only traveled on its outskirts before coming back. That’s because anyone who goes further can never come back... or so we believe. Truth is, we don’t even know what happened to those who didn’t return."
Lotan then controlled the screens, which made one of them grow in size and show a more detailed picture of one of the robots. "Yet, we found these guys in the outskirts, and they were not working. They have runes and were built with materials we have never seen. To be honest, there weren’t only four. We actually got eleven of them."
Lotan’s expression showed regret, obviously pointing out that something didn’t go well. Rean, on the other hand, could assume what happened. "You tried to dismantle them before and ended up with a pile of scrap that couldn’t even be put back together anymore. Perhaps even worse, you didn’t manage to discover anything about its building process."
"Is it that obvious?" A bitter smile appeared on Lotan’s face. "Well, why not just admit it flatly. Yes, we tried to dismantle them and research how they worked. As you said, those dismantling processes turned into utter failures. We couldn’t figure out anything or even put them back together. Once opened, their parts separate in a manner that they just can’t be reconnected. And believe me, we tried!"
Rean had to admit he was very curious about such robots. But then again, the Divine Snow World only has Space-Time Realm experts, no Divinity Realm ones. It is very possible that Legendary Level runes were used in those robots. If that was the case, then it was indeed nearly impossible for the formations masters here to figure out how they worked. "Okay, I understand. But how do you know they can help us cross the Evernight World. Also, what do you know about the Evernight World itself?"
"The Evernight World exists in a small part of the area between the Divine Snow World and the Divine Realm. Other than that, we don’t know much," Lotan explained. "As for why we know these robots can be used to guide us inside, that’s because..."
Lotan then used his VS device to change the holographic screens, this time showing a different robot. That one wasn’t deactivated, though. It was walking around with another cultivator... no, that was a Demon Beast. It seemed to be following all its orders. "That is Xawery, another Core Elder of the Sect, and someone with a Light Element Ability almost as good as mine and the sect master... and yours. She was able to activate one of those robots, and she made a little dive into the Evernight World."
"She came back a day later, telling us that although the robots seemed to take completely random paths, it was able to guide her inside and even bring her back out. She didn’t go any further than that, though. We couldn’t stay in the Evernight Border for long, lest the Inquisition Hall suspected something."
"This idea of traveling the Evernight World seems way too risky..." Rean spoke, not very entertained by the idea.
"It is," Lotan couldn’t agree more. "But it is that or become a brainwashed puppets. Which one is better? I think you know the answer."
