Death... and me

Chapter 3434: It Worked!

Chapter 3434: It Worked!

"But first," Lotan took out a piece of paper, one very familiar to Rean. "I will have you sign the contract I mentioned. It is very simple; you simply can’t tell anyone about the sect’s plans. That’s all. Otherwise, I truly won’t be able to let you leave this room."

Rean took it, commenting, "This one looks quite different from the others I’ve seen in the past."

"They are," Lotan didn’t deny it. "Our sect created them. We just don’t trust the contracts created by the Werdlem Empire."

Rean shrugged and quickly signed it. There wasn’t anything there dangerous. He truly just couldn’t speak about the sect’s plans regarding escaping the Divine Snow World. Well, even if it was dangerous...

*Pin!*

[Soul Binding Contract detected. Deploying decoy.]

The system would take care of it for him.

[Complete.]

The contract burned down, giving Lotan a sense of relief. Rean didn’t make things difficult for him. "You made the right choice."

Rean didn’t seem that happy, though. "You speak like I had another choice. You purposely put me into this mess by simply telling me those secrets."

Still, Rean had his doubts about something else. "Anyway, let’s leave that aside. I have more questions."

"I will answer them," Lotan didn’t mind. "Just let me finish my piece first. Now, about the answer we found 53 years ago. It was then that someone who had once left the Divine Snow World contacted us back."

Lotan explained that they had made a plan because of the exit of experts, and especially the fact that they never heard about them again. So, exactly 191 years ago, one of their elders had reached the limit of the Space-Time Realm.

Hidden from the outside world’s eyes, they created a device that could keep a tiny bit of one’s soul and memories in isolation. That elder, a man called Oclasio, cut a tiny piece of his soul where only the most important memories would be kept. Things like their plan, his sense of self, and similar.

Finally, he achieved a breakthrough and reached the Divinity Realm, which was instantly detected by the Supreme Palace. It wasn’t something you could hide, as such a breakthrough would cause the laws of the world to stir over vast distances. No formation in a place where you can’t reach the Divinity Realm could conceal such a thing. The formations masters there didn’t have the necessary cultivation to make the necessary runes to hide that stir.

Sure enough, he made his way to the borders of the Divine Snow World, where the Inquisition Hall prepared his leave. That was the last time the other elders of the Divine Snow Mountain Sect heard about him for the years that followed.

But that was until 53 years ago. "You see, to make sure that the device wouldn’t be found, we had to put it in a dormant state. We didn’t know what could happen during the traversal to the Divine Realm, after all. What if it took years to happen?"

Rean understood that method. As someone who can work on the soul better than most, Rean knew the approach necessary. "I see; the tiny piece of soul was put into stasis, and the device made sure that the soul waves, which would be pretty non-existent at that point, would be completely concealed."

"Exactly," Lotan confirmed Rean words. "We went even further than that. One would expect us to hide such a device in a Spatial Ring or one’s Pocket Dimensional Realm. After all, the Pocket Dimensional Realm of such high-level experts is enormous, and they are supposed to have full control over it... or so it was supposed to be. But we weren’t certain."

Rean nodded. "They are able to find the existence of other living beings hidden inside one’s Pocket Dimensional Realm during the exit, so who can guarantee they couldn’t find that soul and the memories inside?"

"Exactly," Lotan was happy Rean could see so far. "That said, we made the choice of hiding the device in plain sight. The hidding place was none other than Oclasio’s own soul."

"Oh!" Rean’s eyes lit up. "That was perfect! Let me guess, the location of the piece of soul that was removed to save those memories was also where the device was attached. Not only that, the device posed itself as being part of the soul itself. Not even Oclasio would be able to detect it."

"Hahaha!" Lotan laughed out loud. "It seems like you have played quite a bit with souls before."

"I did," Rean saw no reason to hide that. "We both know that Light Element is the best for such things. Don’t worry, though. I haven’t done anything outrageous just because I can. It goes against my nature."

"I will trust you on that," Lotan’s smile increased. "In any case, we weren’t certain it would work, but we could only try. Even if it failed, it would be seen as just one more attempt at breaking the rules that countless others tried in the past. The sect itself wouldn’t be affected much."

"So, we had the device, the piece of soul, and the memories," Lotan seemed proud of their achievement. No doubt he took part in it. Also, the device itself was set to reactivate in 30 years. Might look like a long time, but it is nothing much to cultivators."

"The fact it was already attached to Oclasio’s soul made it even more simple. Once it activated, it would release that piece, as well as Light Element and runes especially prepared for that moment, to quickly fuse to Oclasio’s Soul again."

Rean noticed a problem. "What if they took control of Oclasio during this time? Couldn’t Oclasio himself have exposed your plans?"

"He couldn’t," Lotan shook his head. "After all, he himself didn’t know what we did to him. Why? Because the memories regarding the entire plan were kept in the device. His main soul had no idea about anything once we finished working on him. Believe it or not, Oclasio himself was the one to come up with this idea... and it worked!"
