[Chapter 272: The Nighttime Shootout]
As night fell, the seaside resort in Rosario lit up.
In one of the villas, crucial positions were occupied by security personnel clad in black suits with earpieces, fixated on the outside.
Bodyguard Melanie finished her patrol and returned to Melissa, saying, "Everything's normal; our security team is in position."
The female assistant then asked, "Chairwoman, Andy Carroll just called. That girl Rachel is a bit difficult; he estimates she won't be able to arrive until around ten."
Melissa checked her watch, losing patience. "Tell Andy if he can't handle it, he needs to send someone over with force."
The assistant made another call and reported back, "Andy Carroll says he can handle it. The hotel staff is mixed, so it's not suitable to make moves; he'll bring the security with him."
Melissa nodded and inquired, "Has the medical vehicle set out yet?"
"It's already on its way," the assistant replied. "It's expected to arrive within half an hour."
Melissa continued, "Once they arrive, everyone must sign a non-disclosure agreement."The Ackerman Charity Foundation had a medical center in Rosario, but it also had her people and her brother Sean Ackerman's people inside.
Melissa wanted to keep the blood bags under wraps, so rather than send people to the medical center, she opted for a small medical team she trusted to drive the latest medical testing vehicle to her.
When the staff arrived and conducted blood tests in front of her, it ensured that no one could meddle in the results.
...
By eight-thirty in the evening, a van marked with the Ackerman Charity Medical Center insignia pulled into the villa.
In a neighboring vacation villa, the owner was absent, and tech-savvy Hierro easily opened the electronic lock and accessed the roof of the second floor. He hid behind the chimney, using night vision goggles to observe the events next door.
Seeing the van, Hierro immediately notified Campos.
...
In downtown Rosario, at the Titanic Hotel, Andy Carroll finally managed to rein in the rebellious Rachel and left with Veronica, fresh from their booked hotel suite.
"Your friend is a bit too enthusiastic," Veronica remarked as they walked. "Is it alright just showing up like this?"
"It's all good. When they arrive in Baltimore, we can also give them a warm reception," Carroll replied, casting a worried glance at Rachel, concerned she might change her mind again. "That villa has a game room; they have games of all sorts to play."
Rachel chose not to respond to the adults but showed interest in video games, so she didn't reject the idea of going.
Given the limited space, there wasn't an underground parking lot. The three of them exited the hotel and approached the parking lot where they got into their rental car ready to head towards the villa.
...
In one of the cars parked in the lot, Fiona quickly made a call.
Afterward, she drove closely behind them, following the car out of the city as it turned onto the road toward the coastal villa area.
...
A SUV and a pickup truck, carrying eight individuals, drove across the desolate Mexican landscape.
In the SUV, Campos stated, "Carroll and the others are en route to meet Melissa at the seaside villa."
Hawke nodded slightly, "Proceed as planned."
The SUV turned onto a highway, heading northwest for a while before lights appeared in the darkness -- the seaside resort was up ahead.
The driver, Juan, slowed down as they passed a villa with a large courtyard. "This is the target," he said.
Hawke had seen the photos before and turned to remind them, "Maintain normal speed."
Both vehicles passed the villa's entrance, settling a hundred meters in front of another villa.
Once the electronic gate opened, both cars turned inside and parked at the villa's entrance.
...
Everyone emerged and made their way to the second floor of the villa.
Hawke reached a small window, using light from next door to observe the target villa.
The back of the villa faced the coastal cliff, surrounded by tall walls with no back door.
The other three sides had walls over three meters high, but no street lamps were lit outside due to either the late hour or Mexico's poor infrastructure.
Although their firepower should theoretically give them an advantage over the security company, Hawke showed no sign of underestimating them.
He drew the curtains and moved toward the center of the room to set up. "Now, adjust your radios."
Everyone donned their earpieces and switched frequencies.
Hawke pointed upward, "Morentes, Hierro, you two head to the roof and take out the opposing fire points from the south to suppress any return fire. Don't let anyone escape."
Morentes grabbed the sniper rifle and secured a pistol to his waist.
Hierro hung night-vision goggles around his neck and picked up the MG249 light machine gun.
Hawke then looked at Guti and Raul. "You'll drive to the north side, and when the action starts, scale the light poles on that side to flank the enemy."
Guti had surveyed the light poles earlier: "Got it, boss."
Finally, Hawke addressed the remaining five. "Campos, you'll use the rocket launcher to blow open the front door! Once the door is down, we charge in!"
He scanned the faces of everyone around, "Try to capture Melissa Ackerman alive; all other targets are to be eliminated! If Melissa poses a direct threat to personal safety, don't hesitate -- execute her! Remember, your lives are more important than Melissa Ackerman's!"
Everyone nodded in understanding.
Hawke glanced at his watch, declaring, "Alright, let's move."
Morentes and Hierro headed up the stairs first.
Hawke pulled out a black balaclava and pulled it over his head.
The others followed suit and donned theirs.
...
In the neighboring villa, near the garage area, Veronica froze when she saw Melissa Ackerman. "Miss Ackerman, what are you doing here?"
The Ackerman Charity Foundation was the leading client of Hallasan Trading Company, so she definitely recognized the Ackerman heiress.
Melissa had no patience for idle chatter. "Blood testing, now."
Veronica, taken aback, asked, "Blood testing? Why?"
Several individuals in white lab coats approached them, masks on.
Veronica turned to look at Carroll, full of disbelief, "What's going on?"
Carroll pulled out a handgun, pointing it at Veronica. "Cooperate; don't make this difficult for me or force me to pull the trigger."
Bodyguard Melanie and the head of security, Coleman, blocked Veronica's escape from both sides.
In disbelief, Veronica couldn't fathom why her fiance aimed a gun at her, raising her voice, "Andy, what do you think you're doing? What's going on?"
"It's simple; I lied. You got duped, and I've kidnapped you," Carroll stated matter-of-factly.
Veronica looked between Carroll and Melissa, puzzled. "I... I'm just a poor girl to you. Why kidnap me?"
The two in lab coats approached, each grabbing an arm to pull her toward the garage.
Veronica fought back, but with a gun pushed to her forehead, she lost control, instinctively following them into the garage.
Rachel has been watching the show. This rebellious girl has always thought that this was a game arranged by Carroll and she found it very fun.
But as the lab-coated figures dragged her toward the garage, Rachel realized that this was all too real.
She yelled, "Let me go! You bad guys, let me go!"
Veronica was pulled into the garage, while Rachel continued to shout, getting on everyone's nerves.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
The commotion made Melissa frown, and she headed toward the garage.
At the door, Rachel turned, attempting to bite one of the lab-coated people.
The lab-coated figure winced, loosening their grip just enough for Rachel to break free.
As she attempted to run away, she felt a foot kick her.
Trained in Taekwondo, Melissa landed a kick on Rachel's stomach, sending her crashing into the garage, leaving her unable to rise.
Melissa lifted her foot, the heel of her high-heeled shoe pressing painfully against Rachel's face, causing her to scream in agony.
"Be smart about this," she told the lab-coated figures. "Take her away."
With a resentful glare, Rachel noticed a discarded screw under the car. Seizing it, she covertly held it in her mouth, biting down gently.
The two lab-coated figures dragged Rachel towards the medical vehicle, while Melissa and her bodyguard followed.
Right as Melissa ordered them to proceed with the blood test, a strange whistling noise pierced through the outside air.
The bodyguard, who recognized the sound, shouted, "RPG!"
...
In front of the villa's main gate, an SUV slowly approached.
Near the villa's entrance, nearly a hundred meters away, a rocket was loaded into the launcher, aiming at the villa's metal gate.
Campos hoisted the launcher, lining up the shot, and pulled the trigger.
The whistling noise erupted as the rocket shot forth, trailing flames, slamming into the compound gate.
The blast came with a deafening boom--
With an enormous explosion, the heavy iron gate toppled and crashed to the ground.
Juan rushed forward to assist Campos in preparing the second rocket.
After a slight adjustment in angle, Campos took aim at the villa's entrance.
Whoosh--
Fire sparked, bright as a meteor in the night, crashing against the villa gate again, igniting another ferocious explosion, flames and smoke erupting into the air.
Carlos slammed on the gas, sharply steering the SUV forward toward the gate.
Juan and Campos leaped into the pickup truck's bed, prepping the final rocket.
Garcia pressed down on the accelerator, racing towards the entrance.
...
The rocket blast had caused many security personnel to instinctively take cover.
Following the second explosion, as the rocket launcher remained dormant, the security team on the second floor quickly sprang up, leveling AR rifles at the vehicles.
Bang!
The muffled gunfire echoed as one security guard was shot, a fist-sized hole erupting in his chest before he collapsed.
...
A hundred meters away on the second floor of the villa, Morentes swiftly pulled the bolt back, zeroing in on the next target.
From a hidden spot in the first floor courtyard, an alarm was triggered.
Yet Morentes couldn't get a good shot at the fleeing target.
...
On the opposite side of the rooftop, Hierro, armed with the M249, opened fire in rapid succession.
Rat-a-tat-tat--
The machine gun roared as bullets rained down, and the individual who triggered the alarm fell victim to multiple rounds, resulting in a swift demise.
