Chapter 3137: Changing Dynamics of the Panama Continent
The Emperor of Harmony would have been lying if he said that he had expected his son’s return to single-handedly turn the tide of war. He had known, of course, that his son would be waking up in one month in real time after they had placed him inside the manifold.
However, at that point, the strategic outlook had collapsed so much that it was hard to imagine that even a Transcendent Caliber Martial Artist could possibly reverse the tides. And indeed, Rui’s individual combat power in and of itself, as spectacular as it was, was not enough to turn the tide simply due to the fact that he was one man who could not be everywhere all the time.
And yet, his return had shockingly brought in the Beast Excursion with him as the Emperor of the Beast Domain and an alliance with Jormungandr and the Great Nam Ocean.
That had been just enough.
It had been just enough to turn the tide.
“Your Majesty,” his Royal Secretary pointed out. “The True World Intelligence Organization has discovered that all new incoming entities at sea have been destroyed by the sea monsters within the depths of the ocean. Only aircrafts have been able to retain their traversability, and even they have begun turning around, presumably due to emergency intelligence of the changes on this continent.”
“Good,” Emperor Rael heaved a sigh of relief. “However, I will need to speak with Rui when he wakes about coming up with an agreement with Jormungandr to allow certain vessels to pass. Seafaring is extremely important for trade and commerce, as well as transport. If we cannot fix this issue, then I’m afraid that we will never be able to integrate into the true world ecosystem in a harmonious manner.”
The Emperor of Harmony was keenly aware of the precarious and delicate situation that human civilization was in right now.
One month had passed since the Unfolding.
The past month was merely a prelude to the horrors of the true world.
In reality, they hadn’t faced the full power of the true world yet, far from it.
The Evolutionary Army and the Imperial Tekvorian Federation were the only two polities that had fought seriously, waging a serious war, but even they hadn’t gone all out either. According to the intelligence gained from the tekvorian prisoner, the Imperial Tekvorian Federation had deployed less than a third of its full power.
The Evolutionary Army, on the other hand, appeared to have deployed closer to half of its power, with the presence of Anthea signifying how serious they were about the invasion and colonization. Additionally, he hadn’t even learned of the most troubling news regarding the legacy of evolution that Anthea had dispatched to Moridia in a final act.
The dwarves, giants, and therianthropes had only deployed a small part of their full power.
It was likely that with an all-out war, with all their assets and forces, not even the Beast Excursion and the Great Nam Ocean would be able to protect human civilization.
“I have no intention of allowing that to happen.”
One of the ways that he intended to go about it was through trade and bilateral ties with those polities that had the sense to pursue mutually beneficial peace rather than a senselessly destructive war for both sides.
“Unfortunately… there are those who are not amenable to reason.”
The Emperor of Harmony had concluded that peace with the evolutionaries, tekvores, and the giants was simply impossible. The latter two were too imperialistic, albeit they focused on different things. The evolutionaries focused on territory while the tekvores focused on the technology of the Esocline Federation.
The giants were just too irrational and driven by their primal urges.
“I have marked them as permanent enemies, but the other polities…” Emperor Rael’s golden eyes sparkled with interest. “…they will be more sensible.”
They had prisoners of war from each and every settlement that had been made without authorization on the Panama Continent. As long as they used it as a bargaining chip and expressed a willingness to return the prisoners of war, they could establish powerful political relations that could ensure that the entirety of the true world wouldn’t turn against them.
“It won’t be enough to simply trade, we will need to go further,” Emperor Rael remarked with a knowing tone. “Military agreements, technological exchanges, strategic agreements, and ideally, I would like to seal the deal with marriage and fathering descendants, but…”
His expression grew complicated. “I’m not entirely sure how viable that last part is. Tactics that I have used within human civilization don’t necessarily apply to different species that have descended from human civilization.”
From the elves, they had learned that each of the six races had undergone special evolutionary pressure that had caused them to evolve through natural selection in the way they had from human ancestors.
Was it even possible to mate between species?
He wasn’t even sure he could stomach the idea, even if it was his duty.
“The Divine Doctor has confirmed reproductive compatibility with all seven species,” his Royal Secretary informed him. “The resulting progeny are hybrids containing the traits of both species. And there are polities that are populated entirely by these very hybrids, some of whom we have captured.”
The Emperor of Harmony’s expression was serious. “Then, we need to arrange for that immediately. More importantly, we need to send delegations with representatives with identities worth representing the entirety of the Panama Continent. Even among Sage-level powerhouses, there are very few candidates who are worthy of such a delegation. However, I will need to convince the Sage-level houses to give me the mandate to negotiate on behalf of the entire continent and all of human civilization.”
This wasn’t going to be easy, given that he was already pushing the limits by having usurped all Sage-level power in the Panama Continent. However, it was precisely because he had all that power thanks to the Martial Insurance Pact that he could get away with it.
BZZZT BZZZT BZZZT!
Emperor Rael’s eyes shifted to his emergency commpad notification with a severe gaze as his eyes widened with shock at the news that he had just received.
[Esocline Federation announces the completion of the development of its own World Bridge Network]
And just like that, the dynamics of the Panama Continent had changed.
