In a special facility within the depths of the manifold in the Kandrian Empire, Bodhisattva Maitreyi opened her eyes after what felt like an eternity.
For a moment, she simply found herself staring at the plain white ceiling while the sterilized air reeked of an intensive care unit.
She simply stared at the ceiling, lost as to where she was.
Then she remembered.
She was in a battle.
She was in a battle in the very epicenter of the Beast Domain.
A battle against the eldritch chimera.
A battle they were losing.
Not even the Dawnbringer’s extraordinary power allowed them to decisively secure victory against human civilization’s greatest enemy.
However, she recalled what she last saw in the battlefield shortly before she departed, having finally run out of stamina.
She saw the Devil break through to the Transcendent Realm.
She saw him take the step to a higher Realm and gain the power to destroy their greatest enemy in a battle that seemed to ravage the very fabric of human civilization, only to fall unconscious in her pod before she could witness the conclusion of the battle.
And yet, even as she had beheld the formation of his nascent Transcendent power, she couldn’t help but feel that it was…
“…Incomplete.”
She gained profound insights into the Transcendent Realm.
That perhaps there was more to it than met the eye.
The very next moment, the Bodhisattva was flooded with vastly more important matters plaguing her mind.
What was the ultimate outcome of the battle?
What happened to the eldritch chimera?
What was of human civilization?
Of course, she was hardly foolish.
Just the fact that she had found herself in what was clearly a very human environment was proof enough that it was very unlikely that the worst had unfolded.
The elderly woman got up as she took stock of her immediate environment.
She was surrounded by machines that monitored her condition in a startlingly white room, still donning the orange single cloth Martial attire of the Gen Temple.
CLACK
The automated doors opened, revealing a doctor and a team of nurses behind her who greeted the esteemed Bodhisattva and Transcendent Candidate.
And yet, the Bodhisattva’s attention fell on the Emperor of Harmony standing behind them, with two Martial Masters behind him.
“Bodhisattva Maitreyi,” the Emperor of Harmony began with a gentle tone.
His golden eyes regarded her with great respect.
“Emperor Rael,” she mused knowingly as she gazed at the Emperor of Harmony. “Amitabha. That must mean that I am in the Kandrian Empire.”
Emperor Rael nodded slowly as he walked into the room.
“How do you feel?”
Her elderly eyes grew hazy.
“Like I’ve been asleep for a long time.”
Her attention returned to the Emperor.
“How long has it been?”
“More than twelve hours, we suspect,” the Emperor of Harmony continued with a calm tone.
He chose not to mention Amare right away.
It hadn’t been easy getting the woman to back off from rushing to see her grandmother the very moment she heard the news.
Not that the Emperor of Harmony could even stop her in the current situation when the Kandrian Empire was devoid of any of its Martial Sages. Thankfully, she respected his will as the Emperor of nation.
For now.
“Twelve hours…”
Her tone was weary.
She appeared older and frailer than she did in the past.
Her elderly eyes returned to the Emperor of Harmony.
“And what of the battle? What of eldritch chimera? What of human civilization and the Beast Incursion?”
Emperor Rael’s eyebrows furrowed at her questions.
Those questions alone provided him with key insights that he didn’t have.
“Before that, it is imperative that you inform us of everything that has unfolded since the Martial Sages went out of contact with human civilization,” the Emperor of Harmony continued with a serious tone. “I don’t wish to burden you right after you have recovered, but it is imperative that you brief me about everything that you know.”
The air grew heavy as the Emperor of Harmony issued his request to the Bodhisattva.
She regarded him with silence for several moments.
“Very well. Listen well and listen closely.”
She began describing the mission of the final battle to end the Beast Incursion.
The Emperor of Harmony shook where he stood as she described how they arrived upon the most well-preserved Lost City she had ever seen in her entire life, preserving even the people of ancient civilizations frozen in time.
His eyes widened at the details of the seemingly advanced civilization of the great distant past, most likely belonging to Empty Ages that human civilization had yet to uncover.
Chills crawled across his skin as Bodhisattva Maitreyi described the Beast That Roared as the most grotesque, horrifying, and terrifying monster that she had ever seen. An eldritch chimera of unfathomable power.
Just the fact that the Beast That Roared was none other than a chimera opened possibilities that he hadn’t even fathomed before.
And yet, his attention remained fixed on her as she described the progression of the battle and the many stages it had, describing how they undoubtedly would have died if not for the Transcendent Healing fruits that they had meticulously preserved over the span of eleven years.
She described the extraordinary role that the Dawnbringer had played and how he was the reason that the battle had not been a devastating defeat for the Martial Sages.
Her tone grew heavy as she described the breathrough of the Devil to the Transcendent Realm.
Emperor Rael grew stunned frozen. “…Damian broke through to the Transcendent Realm?”
Bodhisattva Maitreyi nodded with a serious expression. “I did not get a chance to witness the battle, but I assumed that our victory was imminent upon his breakthrough to a higher Realm. By that point, I had exhausted every last ounce of my stamina, forcing me to leave the battlefield and activate the pods to immediately deal with the consequences of the Master and the Sage Realms.”
Her gaze shifted to the Emperor of Harmony. “…And then I woke up here.”
