As soon as she heard the command, Linthia instantly tried to probe her powers.
It was hard to do, she couldn't feel anything at all.
Being transported inside a new body like this that could only sense spirit energy meant she would need to start from the bottom. Unlike Rex who has insane energy control and could change to control spirit energy as easily as changing drinks, Linthia couldn't do that.
Moving the spirit energy inside of her was hard.
She was back to being a toddler once again.
However, she quickly came to notice the glowing red mark on Rex's back—it was his Soul Artifact.
Before coming here Rex already told her about the fundamentals so she knew about the Spirits' Soul Artifact. Instantly, Linthia probed her entire body in search of her Soul Artifact. Naked underneath the robe made it easier for her to search her skin.
And soon enough, she found her Soul Artifact mark.
Peeking from behind both sides of her waists was the edge of the mark and when she turned to check, she realized that the mark had taken the shape of fairy wings. It was black with a tinge of deep green color and its span reached both sides of her hips.
Finding the Soul Artifact, she tried focusing on feeling warmth on her hips. But no matter how much she tried, she couldn't feel anything.
Out of fear and panic from being a burden for Rex once again, she recalled the training used for young Fairies. She instantly took a rock from the ground, and scratched her Soul Artifact mark with it, causing it to bleed.
In order to feel energy, young Fairies used this method.
Since they could heal themselves, having a scar allowed their bodies to focus even more on using energy.
Using that method worked as Linthia could feel the slight tinge of spirit energy inside of her.
However, in the next second, a powerful surge erupted from her hips climbing to her head.
In that instant, her eyes glowed deep emerald and the darkness around her suddenly became clearer.
Almost as if the Black Rift wasn't there, Linthia could see for about a mile or more and saw a vibrant green glow in the distance. Knowing that it must be a Life Vein, she quickly pointed at it and shouted to inform the others, "Right there!"
Amanir reacted quickly and informed Rex, "Rex! Move that way!"
"Go on ahead without me!" Rex shouted as he severed the hind leg of a Shadow Hound and took a bite of it, chomping down the odd taste of meat. His eyes gleamed with malice, eager to test a few theories in mind that he needed answers to but certainly, the rate of absorption was one of the theories.
It should be amplified if he devoured his enemies—the same as back in the Mortal Realm.
Hearing this, Amanir immediately grabbed Linthia with his small legs and flew away.
"What about His Majesty?!" Linthia asked.
Amanir shook his head, "We'll secure our safety first, he's a lunatic but hard to kill so he's fine"
Swoosh!
On the other hand, Rex was laughing hard, exposing his blood-coated teeth.
Since he was only level one upon getting here, killing hundreds of Shadow Hounds allowed him to level up quickly—He could see notification after notification of his level increasing with more kills. Not to mention, another notification caught his attention as he bit off a Shadow Hound's neck and killed it.
<Accumulated White Nightfall Stars: 37>
Huh? What's White Nightfall Stars?
<Notice: As the user possessed an Imbalanced Spiritual Veins—Harbinger of the Nightfall, the spirit energy leaked by those the user killed would be captured and absorbed by the user's innate ability from the Spiritual Vein and shaped into Nightfall Stars that could be absorbed to strengthen one of the user's Soul Artifacts and climb the rank of power, similar to Elemental Stones>
One of? Don't you mean one? I thought you already merged the Soul Artifacts into one.
<No, only the mark is merged not the Soul Artifacts>
From this, Rex realized that he would need to have three separate ranks for each Soul Artifact.
It was the same as if he had three elements, each has its own progression.
Growl!
Just then, he snapped back to reality when he saw more Shadow Hounds come rushing towards him.
It seemed the Shadow Hounds lived in groups of thousands, they were unending.
Considering Rex could dispatch them easily, this wasn't a bad thing but a good thing instead.
However, good thing tends to last short as from his periphery, Rex saw another stat window that came out of nowhere. Rex snapped towards that stat window and sucked in a cold breath, realizing that it was not a weak Voidal Monster.

…
Emerging from the darkness was a humongous, fat creature with two abnormally big hands.
Its skin was ashen and its face was filled with scars but the evil smile on its face was unmistakable.
Upon seeing this thing, Rex's expression paled.
It was an Immortal Spirit 1, one big rank higher than him!
The massive creature lumbered clumsily, its enormous bulk full of fat swaying left and right with each step. But the moment its glowing green eyes fixed on Rex, it halted. For a heartbeat, the world seemed to hold its breath.
However, then without warning, it charged.
Stomp!
Stomp!
Stomp!
Despite its grotesque belly dragging against the ground, its speed was terrifying—unnatural.
A blur of madness and ass hurtling straight for him.
What the heck?! It's so fast!
Rex's chest tightened, he could feel the danger this creature was emanating in his bones.
It was still three miles away, yet he could see it clearly, every jagged bone protruding from its blackened form. He recalled that he shouldn't have been able to see through the murky haze of the Black Rift and then it hit him.
This thing exposed itself because it wanted me to see it!
Snapping out of his shock, Rex swatted aside the nearest Shadow Hounds and turned to flee.
But his blood ran cold when he stopped short.
Amanir and Linthia were nowhere to be seen, he couldn't sense or see them.
Unlike Linthia and even Amanir who could see through the Black Rift, Rex couldn't do that, he wasn't a Seeker so he was completely blind to anything beyond fifty meters. Barely enough vision to fight the Shadow Hounds near him much less find Amanir and Linthia who should be far from him.
Rex tried not to panic.
He was in a new world so it was easy for him to panic.
Doing that, however, was easier said than done as the Shadow Hounds were biting on him relentlessly.
Even though he wanted to think of a way out of this—before that fat creature reached him, the Shadow Hounds continued to harass him despite not being able to pierce his skin. Angered, Rex attacked them once again, clawing and hacking them while thinking at the same time.
Finding that his attempt was barely working, Rex has had enough.
Crack!
In an instant, Rex transformed into his Werewolf form.
His Werewolf form didn't change at all, it was still the same as back in the Mortal Realm.
Seeing him changing made the Shadow Hounds around him pause, a mix of confusion and fear could be seen behind their eyes. Once Rex changed into a towering figure with a predatory aura that struck an icy cold chill into their forms, the Shadow Hounds backed away slowly.
Call it a feral instinct but they could feel the oppressive air Rex was emanating right now.
Refreshed in his Werewolf form, Rex slowly turned his head to sweep over the Shadow Hounds around him—his crimson eyes glowing brightly within this darkness. Meeting his gaze, the Shadow Hounds froze mid-charge, their dark forms quivering as an unseen force pressed upon them.
A low growl rumbled from Rex, vibrating through the area like a thunderous warning.
Almost instantly, their wolf instincts screamed in submission.
The Shadow Hounds cowered, their glowing eyes flickering—with fear. Some whimpered, tails tucking between their legs while others froze in place, trembling as they lowered their heads in a gesture of absolute submission.
Even in this realm, the demeanor of wolves was the same.
But Rex immediately shifted his focus away when he saw them cowering away.
Think… Think!
Detaching himself from the surroundings, Rex pondered for a second before he thought of something.
Right, I have three Soul Artifacts.
Out of the three Soul Artifacts he has, the Red Dawn of Kaiser is an attack type—while the Aegis of Moon Sentinel is a defense type. Both could not help him since the System stated that their types also referred to their abilities.
But he still has the third one, the Mask of the Banished Eclipse which was a Hybrid-type.
Not wasting a single second more, Rex began sprinting towards where he last saw Amanir and Linthia.
He needed to at least move and get away from the Giga Skull Crusher. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
Along the way, he also summoned the Mask of the Banished Eclipse to see if it could help.
Instead of appearing on his hand, the spirit energy originating from his mark crept to his face as a black mask with golden stitching began to form. Rex waited for a few seconds—until the entirety of the mask was formed.
As opposed to covering his whole face, the mask only covered his right eye.
Rex wanted to scan it with the System but he stopped mid-thought.
His vision from his right eye which was covered by the mask changed, clearing the Black Rift in front of him. Realizing this, Rex closed his left eye to focus more on his right eye. As he focuses on it, the Black Rift disappears further.
Seconds ago, he could only see as far as fifty meters but now he could see three times further than that.
Even though it was still not good enough, it was a start.
Stomp!
Stomp!
Glancing over his shoulder, he saw the fact creature was closing in on him quickly.
Rex gritted his teeth and darted his eyes left and right, trying to search for the others—and even focused on his senses to see if he could sense them. Just then as he sprinted, he saw something flying in front, it was Amanir and Linthia.
It was hard to keep track of them since they were teetering on the edge of his vision.
But then, his ears perked up.
"Your Majesty!!" Linthia's voice echoed, calling to him.
Sensing that Rex was having a hard time, she constantly called for him to inform their location.
Using her voice as a guide, Rex picked up his pace as much as he could.
Still not accustomed to enhancing his speed with spirit energy made his speed uneven, in a few seconds he was faster but in the next, he was slower. His motor control was also still bad—as he stumbled down, rolling across the ground.
Making a swift recovery, Rex tried to run again but realized the fat creature was already on him.
His heart skipped a beat when the ground quaked.
Glancing to the side, he found the fat creature was nowhere to be seen—only a swirl of dark smoke was left behind. Rex's danger sense rang as he gazed upward, seeing the fat creature was already descending on him with both its big hands clasped together into a hammer.
Roar!!
Out of instinct, Rex crossed his arms to eat the attack.
He didn't know how he would fare against this thing but he reckoned he wouldn't die.
As the fat creature was about to collide, something tackled Rex from the side.
Crash!!
Rex rolled across the ground for a couple of seconds before coming to a halt.
Glancing to his side, he saw another person—a short creature with a white-furred face, some sort of a Bugbear. He was wearing robes, looking dignified, and proper. Considering his big belly, this creature was certainly able to take care of himself.
"You aight big wolfie?" He asked, patting Rex on his shoulder.
