Chapter 815: First Hit
Almost as soon as the battle began and the Black Dragon unleashed [Dragon’s Breath] to throw the battlefield into chaos, the Demon King began preparing his grand attack—the [Void Breaker Slash].
A semi-divine technique, the Void Breaker Slash was one of Anos’s most feared moves, a devastating cleave of pure dark energy that could cut through the very fabric of space itself.
It was an attack he could only unleash twice per battle.
But once was usually enough.
He had used this move before to cut down Master Swordsman Philips in Thumba City, turning a once-proud warrior into a legend of the past.
And today, he intended to use on Leo, hoping to turn him into a legend of the past as well.
Standing atop Drogo’s back, high above the battlefield, Anos lifted his massive greatsword, [Doomcaller], the dark metal gleaming under the afternoon sun.
He exhaled deeply, as a low, ominous hum filled the arena as a swirling vortex of void energy began to manifest around his sword.
The air crackled, space itself warping unnaturally as the darkness around his blade condensed, growing heavier and more unstable. The moment the humans saw the attack building, panic erupted among their ranks.
“Wait, wait, wait—what the hell is that?!”
“That’s Void Breaker Slash! The move the Demon King used in Thumba City, i’ve seen fragmented clips of it before”
“That’s his best move, can The Boss take it?!!”
The Demon side, however, smirked.
The Demon Counts seated in the highest seats of the viewing stands exchanged knowing glances, their lips curling into amused sneers.
“Hah. It’s already over.”
“Foolish humans. They really thought their ‘Emperor’ had a chance.”
“Once His Majesty swings, that human and his slimy frog will be sliced in two.”
“He won’t even be able to see it coming. The might of the Demon King is unquestionable!”
Anos tightened his grip on his greatsword, feeling the weight of power coursing through his body.
Then—
He swung.
[VOID BREAKER SLASH]!
As a massive arc of void energy erupted from his blade, roaring forward like an apocalyptic crescent of destruction.
The attack was so powerful that the very sky above the arena seemed to darken, its sheer force tearing through the battlefield as it ripped apart the ground beneath it, leaving a deep trench of pure nothingness in its wake. ŖΑNŐ฿ĘS̩
It was fast.
Too fast.
The attack surged toward Leo like an inescapable judgment.
The human crowd screamed.
The demons laughed.
But Leo—
Leo stood still.
He didn’t move.
Didn’t blink.
Didn’t even breathe.
Instead, he calmly watched as the Void Breaker Slash came hurtling toward him, growing larger, more violent, more unstoppable.
And then— just before it struck—
His dagger flashed blue.
[FULL COUNTER]!
BOOOOOOM!
The instant the Void Breaker Slash collided with his dagger, a violent shockwave exploded outward, sending dust and debris flying in all directions.
Sparks flew.
The ground beneath Leo cracked under the force.
For a split second, it looked like he would be completely consumed by the attack—
But then—
With a sharp twist of his wrist, Leo redirected the entire force of the attack, sending it back toward its sender—
And that too with twice the power.
The massive crescent of void energy, now supercharged with Leo’s counter, roared back toward Anos, the black energy distorting violently as it ripped through space.
The Demon Counts’ smirks vanished.
Their eyes widened in pure disbelief.
“W-WHAT?!”
“HOW—?!”
“That’s impossible!”
Anos’s eyes narrowed sharply as he watched his own attack come barreling back toward him.
As for the first time—
His heartbeat quickened.
“Drogo…” He mouthed, as the Black Dragon squinted his eyes and cast an emergency protective spell around both of them.
[Defensive Veil]
A shell of light blue barrier covered the duo, shielding them from the incoming blow, however, the power of the slash was just too much for the barrier to hold-on for long.
Although the barrier successfully managed to mitigate some of the strength of the attack, in the end it shattered and the attack went on to draw first blood, as although Drogo shielded the Demon King completely, his own scales took a hit, with thick blood oozing down his body.
-17,000
A deep, guttural growl rumbled from Drogo’s throat as the aftermath of the attack settled.
The mighty Black Dragon, revered across the demon lands, had just been wounded—a deep slash carved across his obsidian scales, thick, dark blood oozing down his side.
For the first time since the battle began, the Demon King narrowed his eyes.
Anos slowly turned his head, glancing at the injury on his companion’s flank. His grip on his greatsword tightening, as the weight of the situation sank in.
And in that brief silence—
Plip.
A single drop of dragon blood splattered onto the battlefield below.
Plip. Plip.
Then another.
And another.
The Demon Counts seated in the stands, once full of smug confidence, now sat in frozen silence.
The realization crept in, slow and undeniable.
The Black Dragon Drogo, a creature of pure devastation, a being whose very presence instilled terror, had just bled—not from some divine calamity.
Not from an ancient prophecy.
But from a human.
For the first time, the demons watching understood—
That this battle was not going to be one-sided.
It was not going to be an easy display of superiority.
The human Emperor had come prepared.
And he was dangerous.
Murmurs began spreading throughout the demon seating area.
“Drogo… was hit?”
“The human countered the Void Breaker Slash?”
“No, that can’t be right. That move is supposed to be impossible to return…! And yet—”
The confidence that once roared within the demon ranks wavered.
Meanwhile, on the human side—
A heartbeat of silence.
Then—
BOOM.
The entire human audience erupted.
The stands trembled under the force of thousands of cheers, players and NPCs alike losing their minds at what they had just witnessed.
“HE RETURNED IT! HE ACTUALLY RETURNED IT!”
“HE MADE THE DEMON KING’S STRONGEST SLASH LOOK WEAK—!”
“HE MADE THE DRAGON BLEED—HE ACTUALLY HURT THE BLACK DRAGON!”
“THE BOSS IS A MONSTER!”
ChaosBringer, watching from the highest platform, let out a slow breath.
“…Unbelievable,” he muttered under his breath.
His hands gripped the railing tightly, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew Leo was strong. He knew it.
But this?
This was beyond anything he expected.
Back on the battlefield—
Leo casually rolled his shoulders, spinning his dagger between his fingers.
His posture hadn’t changed.
Not one step back.
Not a single sign of exertion.
He stared at Anos, his masked face unreadable.
Then—
A smirk tugged at his lips.
“Scared yet, Demon King?” He asked, as his voice rang through the battlefield like a challenge.
Then—
He laughed.
A deep, low chuckle that carried through the battlefield.
He laughed like a maniac, taunting the Demon King and the dragon, as although he looked like a deranged fool, Leo knew exactly what he was up to.
This first counter was a make-or-break moment in his fight against the Demon King, as he needed to land a big blow to shatter his aura of invincibility.
The actual hit itself was not important, what was important was that the Demon King appear weak…. Appear mortal.
And that had been achieved with his hit.
And now that he appeared mortal.
Now that his followers began to wonder what was going on?
Leo began laughing at him to purposefully mock him, as he knew the Demon King had no other option but to go all-out now to save his reputation.
By landing the first blow, Leo controlled the pace of the battle now, which was absolutely crutial in his gameplan to win.
