PRIMORDIAL CHAOS DRAGON TOWER: HAREM SYSTEM
Chapter 391 - 391: First Encounter with the Sword DaoJest woke up on a crystal floor.
The moment his eyes adjusted, he managed to take in his surroundings, and it was that of a serene environment filled with a powerful energy he immediately recognized.
“Sword Intent, Sword Qi, and another…” He tried to comprehend that other energy, but he couldn’t. However, just the two were enough to tell him he was inside a place that could not be joked with.
It was all crystal, and the light filling the place was coming from a distinct source, so he started to follow it. It took him just a few minutes to approach the light.
However, from a few kilometres away, he heard a voice come from the source of the light.
“Welcome, Slave.”
Jest stopped his advance and looked toward the light, trying to adjust his vision to see if he could make out the entity that spoke, but no matter how long and hard he tried, he couldn’t figure out the entity.
“Who is there?” Jest asked.
“Shouldn’t a slave bow down to his master?” the voice spoke again.
“I am a slave no more. And if you don’t stop calling me a slave, we are going to have a problem,” Jest said, and the entity’s light shone almost as though it had taken offence to his words.
“A slave that doesn’t know his place dies pitifully… You know that, right?”
Jest chuckled. “A slave who wills to be free wouldn’t hesitate to sever his master’s head if that means he can forever be free,” he replied.
“Then have you severed your master’s head? I can tell you are still shackled, meaning you are still a slave.”
“Being shackled is a reminder of the promise I made to myself. I could have removed the slave mark and forever rid myself of my past, but that would mean I would forget my roots.
I was a slave, still a slave, but will be a slave no more. So stop wasting my time and tell me who you are and why I am here.”
Jest wasn’t angry. It was far from that.
The mention that he was still a slave was something he never wanted to forget.
One of the first things he did after escaping the slave mine was to find out who the owners were, and from what he found, it belonged to the Seven Ancient Immortal Clans.
They are a force he cannot measure up to. So, while it aches his heart knowing his people are still suffering, there is nothing he can do about it… now.
But he never forgets that the main reason he aspires to become strong is to free them and kill every last one of these slavers. That was why he wasn’t angry when the entity called him a slave.
It reminded him of who he was and is and that he wishes to be no more.
But that doesn’t mean it sounded pleasant, either.
“You are determined. I saw how you struggled over the years, chasing after something that isn’t there. I saw how you weaved your way through thorns just to find what wasn’t there.
So I brought you here to tell you this: what you are looking for doesn’t exist. What you aspire to create isn’t possible, so free yourself and let fate rule it all.”
Those words stung, yet Jest merely smiled.
“A wise man once said, what isn’t there and what can be are one and the same. You called me here because you aspired to be, yet you don’t have the faith to become.
I don’t know you, but I know me, and I know what I am after is possible. The question now is, are you a loser who doesn’t believe in himself, or are you a legacy that wants to live on for years to come?”
Naturally, Jest spoke those words, but he wasn’t the one who said them. It was as if an unfathomable presence moved his lips and brought out his words.
This was something he would only realize years later.
The entity didn’t speak for a very long time, and Jest, too, didn’t move for that duration. However, after a year of silence, the entity spoke again.
“You seek a path to the apex. I can give you that. I can give you the key to walk that path. But as to whether you get there, that will depend on three things.
First, your determination to get where you want to go.
Second, your intent to rise to that level of authority and harness the strength that comes with it.
Third, your will to never shake and never falter, regardless of the obstacles you have to break. These are the only three things you need to aspire to walk the Sword Dao, and that is the key you seek.
Go back and resume your journey. You are already on the path, but whether you can walk it, as I said, will depend on the three things.”
“Who are you?” Jest asked. Just now, when the entity spoke, it was as if his eyes had been opened, and he could finally see.
In fact, his eyes had been opened, and he could see the strings of the Sword Dao, one of the mysteries of the universe that, to this day, hasn’t been fully understood.
“I don’t have a name; I only have a symbol. I don’t come from anywhere, for I am everywhere. I aspire to be known, followed and chased after.
I am the Dao of the Sword, the path you seek to walk. Remember your determination to walk, your intent toward what you are walking towards, and your will to never stop walking.
These are the only things you need.
Go back, and may fortune smile on you, Slave. We will meet again someday, and when that day comes, I hope you will finally figure out what it is you are truly chasing after.”
For a minute before he was sent away, the light cleared, and an entity clad in otherworldly battle armour, wielding a giant sword, smiled at him.
Kent snapped his eyes open, and immediately as he did, the entire Sword Tower shook as a powerful sword energy burst out of his body and eyes.
