Chapter 281: Why Did I Even Bother?!

Chapter 281: Chapter 281: Why Did I Even Bother?!

Impel Down

Level 2: Wild Beast Hell

Luffy, Buggy, and Mr. 3 were running for their lives with everything they had.

Behind them, a horde of massive, ferocious beasts was hot on their tails.

This level was crawling with wild creatures.

“Hey, hey, hey! If we keep following this guy, we’re gonna die, aren’t we?!” Mr. 3 shouted at Buggy, his face twisted with panic.

“No doubt about it! We’re dead meat! This guy’s heading down! No way! We gotta get away from him, fast!”

Buggy’s expression was just as terrified.

He had already figured it out.

Straw Hat Luffy had no intention of surviving.

Going deeper? That was a one-way ticket to certain death!

How the hell were they supposed to escape then?!

The smart move was to ditch him now.

Find a place to hide.

Then sneak back up and break out!

But right now, they were exhausted and starving.

They could barely keep running.

Just then—two paths appeared ahead!

Their hearts leapt with joy.

Gyahahaha!

This was their chance!

Without even looking, Luffy immediately dashed down the left path.

“Now’s our shot!” Buggy yelled.

In an instant, Mr. 3 and Buggy veered into the other passage.

But behind them, Sadi-chan and Hannyabal couldn’t hold back their reactions.

“Pfft—!”

“What the hell are those two doing?!”

The moment the pair turned into the alternate passage, their world crumbled.

Because the second they stepped in—

They fell straight into open air.

Looking down…

Oh.

There was no floor.

Below them was Level 3: Starvation Hell.

Their spirits shattered on the spot!

Damn it!

Who built this?!

What kind of moron designed this prison?!

As they screamed, a wave of blistering heat instantly hit their faces.

And just like that—WHAM!

They slammed hard into the ground.

Good news: they were alive.

Bad news: they were already running on empty, and now, with this suffocating heat, they didn’t even want to move a muscle.

Mr. 3 melted almost instantly.

Literally.

“It’s over~ We’re done for~ Quick~ Find some shade~” he groaned, tongue lolling out, barely able to speak.

But in this endless desert, where the hell were they supposed to find shade?

Just as Buggy was about to crush Mr. 3’s last hope—

A sudden chill brushed against them from ahead!

Buggy froze.

No way… actual shade?!

Instantly, their spirits reignited!

They sprinted like their lives depended on it.

But as the air grew cooler, doubt crept into their minds.

What the hell was this?

Were they hallucinating?

What was going on?

How could there be a cool spot in a place like this?!

Was it a trap?

After rounding a corner, they arrived in front of a cell.

But what they saw inside made their jaws drop.

Buggy’s body literally split apart in shock.

His eyeballs popped out.

His head detached from his shoulders.

Inside the cell, two figures lounged casually in chairs.

Legs crossed, humming a tune.

Beside them stood a table with a large basin.

Inside the basin—ice and what looked like beer!

But that wasn’t even the craziest part.

The real insanity?

The cell was surrounded by seven or eight standing air conditioners!

The cool breeze made the place feel like paradise.

The sheer absurdity of the scene nearly short-circuited their brains.

Even Buggy, a man who had seen it all, was left speechless.

In the middle of blazing desert…

This cell was an alien world.

“What… the hell is going on here? Am I hallucinating?” Buggy stammered.

He was genuinely baffled.

If he hadn’t gotten his bearings wrong—based on his recent “prison stay” experience—this was supposed to be a prison, right?

You’ve got chairs in a prison? Fine.

You’ve got iced beer? Okay, that’s pushing it!

But a freaking fleet of air conditioners?!

Who are you?!

What are you doing here?!

You the warden’s kid or something?!

While Buggy was still processing, Mr. 3 had already lunged forward!

Keys in hand, he flung the cell door open like a starving dog pouncing on food!

Anyone watching would’ve thought he was sprinting toward freedom.

Buggy snapped out of it and scrambled in after him.

Vir, sitting inside, blinked in confusion.

Huh?

This is a prison cell, right?

First time seeing someone this eager to get locked up.

Dude left his own ass outside!

Hey! You forgot your butt!

Vir, sipping his beer, watched the two with amused curiosity.

Buggy, now basking in the AC, locked onto the beer on the table.

After a quick scan of the room—

’A twink and a doctor?’

’Perfect!’

’I’m the strongest here! I call the shots!’

’That beer is mine!’

’Why should these weaklings get to enjoy what I can’t?!’

Three seconds later—

’I am but a sinner~’

Lying on the ground, his entire body stuffed into his own mouth, his bare feet jammed up his nostrils, tears streaming from his eyes from the stench—Buggy could only reflect on his life choices…

Meanwhile, in Level 6…

Garp slowly rose to his feet.

Staring at Ace, his heart felt heavy.

But it was time to go.

“Let’s move… Ace.”

Ace wasn’t as sentimental.

But his gaze was still complicated.

He said nothing.

The two boarded the express elevator, quickly arriving at Level 1.

Garp ignored the chaos around him.

He wasn’t in the mood.

He didn’t even know it was Luffy’s doing.

Magellan hadn’t mentioned it.

Outside the prison, Garp’s iconic ship was docked.

The dog-headed battleship.

His right-hand man, Bogard, stood on the shore, waiting for his captain’s return.

Seeing Garp’s dark expression, Bogard’s heart ached.

His usually boisterous boss now wore a look like this…

Family or duty…

Sigh.

Silently, Bogard patted Garp’s shoulder in comfort.

But—

*WHAM!*

“That hurt!” Garp roared, sending Bogard flying with a punch.

Rubbing the massive bump on his head, Bogard slapped himself twice.

’This old bastard deserves it!’

’Taking it out on me?!’

’Why did I even bother?!’

’I’m such an idiot!’

Soon, the battleship sailed away.

And the moment it vanished over the horizon—

Not far away, Blackbeard stood at the bow of his ship!

“Let’s go, boys! ZEHAHAHA! Our golden age is here!”

At the same time…

In the air-conditioned cell, Vir slowly opened his eyes…
