Zhan Tian raised his hand, and the battlefield shifted once more.
A woman materialized from swirling shadows, her form clad in flowing black robes that seemed to drink in the light. A pair of curved daggers rested in her hands, their edges shimmering with eerie violet energy.
“Meet my second champion,” Zhan Tian announced. “The only warrior to ever master the Great Law of Death without inheriting the authority.”
Yun Lintian’s breath caught. The moment she appeared, the temperature plummeted. Frost crackled across the battlefield, and the air itself grew heavy with the weight of mortality.
Linlin’s fur stood on end. “That’s… not normal.”
Qingqing shivered. “She smells like… the end.”
The woman didn’t speak. She simply tilted her head, studying Yun Lintian with eyes like bottomless voids.
Then she moved.
One moment she stood ten paces away. The next, her dagger was carving toward Yun Lintian’s throat.
He barely raised the White Dragon Spear in time.
CLANG!
The impact sent him skidding back, his arms numb from the force. But worse was the creeping cold where their weapons had met—a numbness that spread through the spear and into his fingers.
Death energy.
The woman didn’t pause. Her second strike came low, aiming for his ribs. Yun Lintian twisted away, but the dagger still grazed his side.
Agony erupted as the wound rotted before his eyes, flesh blackening at the edges.
“Damn!” He channeled the Breath of the World Tree, emerald light flooding the injury. The decay halted, but the wound remained.
The woman’s lips curved slightly. Then she attacked again.
Yun Lintian stopped holding back.
Divine Phoenix flames wreathed his body, countering the deathly chill. Golden Crow fire coated the White Dragon Spear, its solar heat pushing back the creeping numbness.
Their battle became a deadly dance.
Every spear thrust met a dagger’s parry. Every flame met shadow. Life clashed directly against Death.
The woman moved like liquid darkness, her form blurring between strikes. Yun Lintian matched her with Divine Phoenix speed, their afterimages crisscrossing the battlefield.
Yun Lintian noticed something—the woman’s attacks weren’t random. They followed a pattern, like the steps of some macabre dance.
He adjusted his rhythm to match.
When she lunged low, he was already pivoting. When she feinted left, his spear was waiting on the right.
The woman’s eyes widened slightly.
Then she changed tactics.
Her daggers crossed before her chest, then swept outward in an X-shaped slash. Violet energy erupted—a wave of pure death that withered the very air it passed through.
Yun Lintian didn’t dodge.
He met it head-on.
The White Dragon Spear flared with emerald light as he channeled both the Breath of the World Tree and his Divine Phoenix flames. Life energy surged forth in a blazing counterwave.
BOOM!
The collision shook the battlefield. The opposing energies canceled each other out in a explosion of light and shadow.
In that moment of blindness, Yun Lintian struck.
His spear lanced through the dispersing energies—
—and stopped an inch from the woman’s throat.
Silence.
Then, slowly, she lowered her daggers and nodded.
“Hahaha!”
The War God’s laughter boomed across the plain.
“Magnificent!” He rose from his throne. “To think you’d counter Death with Life so perfectly.”
Yun Lintian lowered his spear, panting. “She’s… more than just a champion, isn’t she?”
Zhan Tian’s grin was all teeth. “Oh, she’s that too. But more importantly…” His gaze turned serious. “Let’s meet your final test.”
Zhan Tian raised his hand, and the battlefield trembled.
Space itself tore open like fragile parchment, revealing a void darker than night. From that abyss stepped a single figure—a man clad in armor forged from black stars, his every movement sending shockwaves through reality.
“My final champion,” Zhan Tian declared. “The only warrior to ever push me to my limits.”
The moment the figure appeared, the air turned to lead. Linlin and Qingqing were forced to their knees, their bodies trembling uncontrollably. Even Yun Lintian’s bones creaked under the pressure.
Primordial God-level.
The champion raised his head—and attacked.
No warning. No flourish. Just a single fist lashing out across space.
BOOM!
Yun Lintian barely crossed his arms in time. The impact sent him flying like a leaf in a hurricane, his body carving a mile-long trench through the battlefield before he crashed to a stop. Blood filled his mouth. Several ribs were shattered.
One hit.
If not for his Black Turtle defenses and Azure Dragon scales, that punch would have vaporized him.
The champion didn’t wait. He appeared above Yun Lintian, his foot descending like a falling mountain.
Yun Lintian rolled aside just as the ground where he’d lain exploded upward, the shockwave sending him tumbling further.
He knew that he couldn’t afford to hold back now.
Buzz—
Twin energies erupted from Yun Lintian’s body—one black as the void, the other golden as the noonday sun.
The God of Darkness’s power shrouded him in shadows, making his form flicker in and out of existence. Simultaneously, the Sun God’s authority ignited the White Dragon Spear with solar fury.
The champion paused—then smiled.
And attacked again.
Their battle rewrote the landscape.
When the champion punched, mountains crumbled. When Yun Lintian countered with his solar-charged spear, lakes vaporized.
Yun Lintian used every trick he had.
Darkness to phase through attacks. Sun to burn away defensive energies. Balance to predict movements. Life to heal instantly.
Yet the champion matched him blow for blow.
A fist grazed Yun Lintian’s cheek—his head snapped back as three teeth shattered. He retaliated with a spear thrust to the gut—only for the champion to twist aside and elbow his spine.
CRACK!
Yun Lintian hit the ground hard, his vision swimming. The Breath of the World Tree worked overtime to repair the damage.
Blood dripped from Yun Lintian’s lips as he pushed himself up from the shattered ground. The taste of copper filled his mouth, but his golden-flecked eyes burned with determination.
“Again.”
The champion’s fist came like a falling star—but this time, Yun Lintian was ready.
Suddenly, his body dissolved into shadows just before impact, the champion’s punch passing harmlessly through him. In the same motion, Yun Lintian reformed behind his opponent, the White Dragon Spear blazing with solar fury.
BOOM!
The spear struck true, carving a molten line across the champion’s star-forged armor. The champion staggered forward—the first time he’d been moved against his will.
Linlin’s eyes widened. “He hit him!”
Qingqing cheered, her tiny fists clenched. “Go Big Brother Yun!”
Yun Lintian didn’t let up.
Darkness and Sun energies swirled around him in a deadly dance. He became a flickering storm of light and shadow—one moment vanishing into the void, the next reappearing with spear aflame…
