MYTH BEYOND HEAVEN

Chapter 2698: Peril (2)

Chapter 2698: Peril (2)

“What happened?” Linlin quickly asked.

“The White Tiger God Clan is in a state of peril,” Bai Ying explained, her voice grave. “A powerful force has infiltrated our ranks, sowing discord and chaos. The clan is divided, its strength weakened.”

“Many members of the clan have been corrupted, their hearts filled with darkness. They seek to exploit the power of the White Tiger God bloodline for their own selfish desires.”

“Why…?” Linlin murmured in disappointment. The excitement of potentially meeting her kin was instantly extinguished.

Bai Ying sighed, her gaze drifting towards the distant horizon. “Greed… It is a plague that infects all beings, even mythical beasts like us.”

She paused, her eyes turning towards Linlin. “The White Tiger God Clan, once a bastion of purity and strength, has fallen prey to this insidious disease. Some members of the clan, driven by ambition and a thirst for power, have turned against their own kin.”

Bai Ying’s voice grew heavy with disappointment. “I left the clan because of this. I could not bear to witness the corruption that was spreading within its ranks. I was disillusioned to see my own people succumb to such darkness.”

She looked at Linlin, her eyes filled with a gentle understanding. “I understand your desire to visit the clan, Linlin. You must be growing up outside all these years. But it is not the same place it once was. It is a dangerous place, filled with treachery and deceit.”

“The purity of your bloodline makes you a target, a valuable asset for those who seek to control our ancient power. They would stop at nothing to capture you, to exploit your potential.”

Linlin lowered her head in disappointment. She jumped onto Yun Lintian’s shoulder and laid against his cheek without saying anything.

Yun Lintian patted her head gently and said. “It’s fine. We will fix that later.”

Even though Yun Lintian’s purpose of coming to this timeline was to find the Primordial Gods, he wouldn’t mind fulfilling Linlin’s wish to see her kin and rebuild the White Tiger God Clan.

Yun Lintian raised his head to look at Bai Ying and asekd. “Senior Bai, can you tell me about the other mythical beasts such as the Azure Dragon God, the Divine Phoenix, and the Golden Crow?”

Bai Ying’s gaze turned thoughtful. “We are a proud and ancient race, but sadly, we are not as united as one might think.”

She sighed softly. “While we generally maintain a friendly relationship with each other, we do not have much contact. Each clan tends to its own affairs, guarding its own secrets and traditions.”

“Therefore, I do not have much knowledge about the current state of the other mythical beast clans. I only know that the Dragon God Clan has pledged their allegiance to the God of Life.”

“As for the Divine Phoenix Clan, the Golden Crow Clan, and the others… their whereabouts and allegiances remain shrouded in mystery. They are elusive, secretive, preferring to remain hidden from the eyes of the world.”

Bai Ying’s expression turned slightly troubled. “The God Realm is vast, filled with countless realms and hidden dimensions. It is possible that they have retreated to secluded domains, seeking refuge from the chaos that plagues our world.”

“Or perhaps,” she paused, her voice turning grave, “they have fallen prey to the same corruption that has infiltrated the White Tiger God Clan. The darkness that festers within our hearts can spread like a disease, infecting even the most noble of beings.”

Yun Lintian nodded slowly. It was quite troublesome to find all of them one by one. Perhaps he could go straight to the Goddess of Life and ask her about it later.

He thought for a moment and said, “Do you want to avenge the Bai Clan, Senior?”

Bai Ying’s eyes flickered with a hint of murderous intent. “Of course.”

“Let’s go,” Yun Lintian said indifferently.

Inside the Meng Clan manor, Meng Huai looked at the three elders in front of him with a serious expression.

“What brings you here, Elder Feng, Elder Jin, and Elder Qin?” he asked calmly despite knowing their intention.

“You know what happened to the Liang Clan,” Elder Feng said calmly. “Why did your daughter appear outside the Liang Clan manor earlier?”

Meng Huai’s eyes flickered, but he maintained his composure. “My daughter was merely passing by. She was returning from a trip when she witnessed the commotion. Nothing more.”

Elder Jin scoffed. “Passing by? At the precise moment the Liang Clan was annihilated? Do you take us for fools, Meng Huai?”

Elder Qin stepped forward, his expression stern. “We know your daughter witnessed something. We saw her running away with her bodyguard. Tell us the truth, Meng Huai. What did she see?”

Elder Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly as he said coldly. “Are you sure you want to hide it from us?”

Meng Huai’s smile faltered. He knew he couldn’t deceive these elders. They were too shrewd, too experienced. He sighed, realizing he had no choice but to reveal what he knew.

“My daughter… she did see something,” he admitted, his voice resigned. “But I fear it will only complicate matters further.”

“Tell us,” Elder Feng commanded, his voice firm.

Meng Huai hesitated for a moment, then began to recount his daughter’s encounter with Yun Lintian. He described the mysterious traveler, his interest in the White Tiger, and his sudden appearance at the Liang Clan manor just before its destruction.

“My daughter said he entered the Liang Clan manor just before the destruction began.” Meng Huai said, his voice grave.

The three elders exchanged shocked glances.

“Where is he now?” Elder Feng asked.

Meng Huai shook his head. “How would I know?”

Elder Jin frowned slightly and said, “Call your daughter out.”

Meng Huai’s face sank as he said, “This has nothing to do with my daughter.”

Before Elder Jin could make a threat, Meng Huai spoke further. “Although our Meng Clan has been declining over the years, we are not pushovers. You can try, Elder Jin.”

Elder Jin’s face darkened. He was about to say something, but a calm voice suddenly resounded from behind.

“Interesting. Why weren’t you this tough when the Bai Clan faced a calamity back then, Patriarch Meng?”

The expressions of the three elders and Meng Huai changed drastically. They gazed toward the door and saw a young man standing there with a small white cat and a young girl on his shoulders.

What surprised them was a tall woman behind him and a White Tiger cub in her arms.

Yun Lintian looked at them and asked calmly, “Can you tell me?”
