Chapter 1125: 1125 Dance The Night Away
While Stephanie reluctantly took her spot at the front, while giving Wolfe a look that was meant to remind him that she was a dignified Saint, and not actually the small child that her body had been turned into.
But Nimue was much more enthusiastic, and despite her rapid power growth, she still behaved like the kid she was, living her glory days with a whole harem full of adopted moms.
It was difficult to say no to her, and she was known to simply climb up and cuddle with people when they were relaxing, so the status had slowly stuck, though Carmine and Dana, the two other Demon Princesses, had taken up most of the duties of keeping her out of trouble.
They made their way to the doors of the ballroom where tonight’s dance would be held, and found that there were only about fifty people gathered so far, all sitting at the tables along the walls and drinking with old friends or the families of potential suitors.
“Announcing King Wolfe Noxus, and the members of his Pentacles.” Davis, the new castle butler, announced.
Everyone present stood and bowed politely as the group entered, and then Wolfe motioned for them to sit again.
“It looks like we got here right when we intended to. There are many people just leaving their suites, I can feel them passing by the flowers in the hallways.” Nimue noted.
“You can feel them passing the flowers?” Wolfe asked.
“I am a Saint Ranked Dryad. Or, half Dryad, anyhow. We’re connected to every plant within a few hundred metres of ourselves. We can feel the rain, the wind on their leaves, the warmth of a touch, and even the cool shadow of people passing by and casting a shadow.” She explained.
Behind them, Carmine laughed softly at the reminder, and Wolfe looked back to see what was so funny.
“She spent days training the canine familiars to use the toilets because she thought it was icky that they would pee on the grass.” The Demon Princess whispered.
Nimue nodded happily. “We even put a bunch of the Eastern Continent’s old style floor level toilets in, so that they’re easier for Familiars to use.”
The group took seats at the end of the room, gathered around two large tables, and the band continued to play softly.
The other guests began to enter only a few minutes later, being formally welcomed to the room one pair at a time, starting with the lowest ranking guests, who were naturally expected to already be here when the higher ranked visitors entered so that they weren’t stealing the spotlight of the most prestigious guests.
It was a standard practice for all Royal and High Noble functions across all of the assembled Empires, so Wolfe wasn’t going to try to change that now.
As a King, he could show up any time he wanted to, and the guests would just accept it. But for the lower ranks, like the Guardians of small regions, and the leadership teams of low population nations, there really wasn’t anything fashionable about being late.
“The Baron Southland and his son David.” The butler announced as another pair walked in.
That was a bit startling to everyone in the room, as it was mostly national leaders that were invited to the event, and a Baron could hardly be considered an influential person under normal circumstances.
However, the Baron had always had a way with money, and he had quickly become one of the largest suppliers between the Fallen Empire and Forest Grove. That had allowed him to get enough influence to beg one of the Pentacle members to get him on the invitation list for the coronation.
What they had taken in exchange was a mystery to Wolfe, but when he looked around for answers, Lucy wrote a quick note and passed it to him.
[We had him hired as a magical jewellery supplier for the event so that he could attend.] That made sense. They had needed to dress numerous women in very fancy outfits, and the new artificers were still getting settled into their homes.
They hadn’t started their daily work yet, so there were no magical items being produced at the castle, and they would have needed to import whatever they didn’t already own.
Not that they actually had to wear expensive magical items to impress anyone, but that was not Wolfe’s concern.
He was more worried that it might set a precedent for corruption.
This was not the time to have that discussion, and everyone looked lovely for the evening, so the hiring of an outside supplier didn’t go to waste.
Besides, they would be given gifts for the Coronation Ceremony. They were technically for Wolfe, but everyone knew that the tradition was less for the King and more for his Queens and Advisors.
They were the ones that you dealt with on a regular basis, so they were the ones you had to impress and keep happy. It was less likely that you would insult a reigning Monarch, as most people never expected to meet them more than once in their lives.
The Baron was making good use of the event, though. He was already leading his son around to meet with the eligible daughters of the other attendees, hoping to secure him a position that was connected to someone with influence and wealth.
That went both ways. The Baron made enough that none of his children would be totally left out in the cold when he retired, and from what Wolfe could tell this son was already accomplished on his own, being a Rank Two magic user in his late teens.
If he kept that up, King Petros would certainly give him a title that was higher than his father’s so he wouldn’t have to worry about being a younger son, as he would have his own title to pass on and use to build his future.
The band began to increase in volume as the room filled, going from background music to proper dance music that would be heard across the floor even with a crowd.
Cassie smiled at Wolfe. “Should we get the festivities started?”
