Chapter 1098: 1098 Gossip and Politics

“What is that and how did it get past the defensive spells on the Parliament?” Someone was demanding.

The voice sounded youthful, so likely not the speaker, who was a wizened old crone, well past her first century, and possibly her second as well.

There was a fair bit of shouting before the sound of a gavel on a desk silenced them.

“The letter is addressed to the Leadership of the One World Government. That is all of us collectively. I detect no harmful magic on it, only a calming perfume charm, which is customary for formal invitations.” The ancient voice slowly spoke.

That should be the speaker. It certainly sounded the way that she had looked through the portal.

Wolfe kept half his attention on the words from the portal as he prepared to send out the invitations to the Covens.

“Dearest friends, we are honoured to invite you to the Coronation Celebration for King Wolfe Noxus of Forest Grove and the Frozen Wastes. Food, beverage and lively entertainment have been arranged for the traditional three days, beginning fourteen days from today on the full moon.

Transportation portals are available on request,

RSVP for further information.”

The speaker’s words trailed off, and the parliament went silent for a moment.

“We’ve been invited to the Coronation Celebration for a Magi King? Are they insane?” Someone shouted.

“The Magi are the enemies of the world, how could he consider that we would even think of attending his coronation?” Another voice demanded.

Then the room devolved into chaos, and Wolfe held off on doing the other deliveries, as everyone in the room with him got a live feed of the latest gossip from around the world.

Eventually, the gavel banged again, and the Speaker’s voice raised.

“Silence. Before you all go off the deep end, I would like to remind you all that the Guardians are likely to accept him as the World’s Sole King.

The Mana Beast already informed me of its intentions to do so, and it will only be a matter of time before we must speak with the Demonic and Fae Guardians about their intentions.

But more importantly, most of you should have received the memory crystals with the unedited history leading up to the beginning of the Great War.

It is no longer a secret that the Magi maintained their pacifism until well after the genocide started, and that their refusal to assist in the enslavement of the peasants and rebels was the true cause of the war.

That information will soon be common knowledge in the world, and calling a Magi that is generations removed from the war an enemy of the world will only put us at odds with them.” She slowly explained.

“Then let them be at odds with us. We are the One World Government, we rule the world.”

There was some shouting, and then a booming female voice echoed above the others.

“Did you all forget that he is a Magi King? They didn’t sit out the conflict because they were weak. With his power, it is very likely that this invitation is a test of loyalty. Those who openly oppose him and his rule will find themselves unexpectedly eliminated from the map, just like the forgotten continent.

We are not exempt from that. We govern in name only, with most of the territories run by Guardians or in open rebellion against our rule. Our armies failed to defeat his before he was a Saint, they won’t manage it now that he is a King, and the Generals have made no secret of the fact that their troops will defect if we try to send them against the Frozen Wastes again.”

Ella cast a spell, and a tray covered in teacups appeared in front of her.

The rush to deliver the messages was completely forgotten. It was way more entertaining, and possibly important, to listen to what was going on in that room.

They argued back and forth about the immortal might of the glorious One World Government, while half the voices called them all idiots, or reminded them that they were running out of military equipment and had very few functional mines left to extract resources to make more, even if they could get factories to agree.

The people had taken to the Guardians with a disturbing ease, as they forbid the practice of slavery, even as a punishment for crimes, and they were willing to enlist help to get outsiders to trade them for things they needed, as the Witches in most of the world did not use Elemental Magic.

They weren’t short on food, just on everything else, and the technology from before the war was not easily adapted to being made from plant matter. They had some bioplastic facilities for simple things like plates, bottles and such, but advanced electronics were beyond the scope of what those facilities could provide raw materials for.

Another amplified voice silenced the room.

“Shut up, I am speaking.” The young woman’s authoritative voice demanded, and Wolfe realized that someone there had advanced to Rank Six. That was virtually unheard of, and the first such case that Wolfe was aware of since the Great War.

“We will solve this the easy way. Those in favour of a treaty to place King Noxus in the ruling position of the One World Government’s territories, with all the rights and responsibilities that such a rank entails, stand now.” She demanded.

There was the sound of shuffling, before the speaker raised her voice.

“How could you suggest such a drastic measure already?”

The young woman’s voice was softer now.

“He is the King. The only King born of this world, with ten Witch Saints standing at his side. We antagonized him to the point that not one of our Witches is among that number, though he took them from four different nations on his continent.

He took Demons, Fae and even magic using humans into his Pentacles, and will make them all as strong as the Continental Representatives. Yet, the shortsighted actions of this group saw us completely left out.” The Rank Six Witch insisted.

That silenced the crowd, and Wolfe heard more shuffling, then stomping, and doors banging.

“With eighty-five of one hundred votes, the motion is passed.”
