Chapter 1096: 1096 Home For A Rest

“Ladies, thank you for your assistance. It’s good to have gotten that last step out of the way, and now we can say that our world has its very own King again.” Wolfe informed the ladies of the five Pentacles, and the resurrected Witches of the mountain nations.

Silvana smiled at him, and then carefully poked Wolfe’s armour spell, which was still shimmering with power from the Coronation trial.

“Will you take us to your hometown to see what it is like in this new world?” She asked.

“Certainly. The ladies will show you around, so you’re not all trapped with me as the inevitable influx of well-wishers arrives.

We have had Kings and Queens come to visit lately, but there hasn’t been one in residence since the great war, after all.”

He began to form the spell to open a portal home, but as soon as he thought of it, Wolfe got the feeling that that world complied, and the portal opened without even needing to form the array.

“Well, that is new.” He muttered, unsure if this was just part of being a King, or if something had changed in his affinities after he had modified his mana system.

He had checked to make sure that there were no noticeable reductions in affinity, but not for increases.

The portal led him to the usual spot in the gardens, where everyone chose to arrive in Forest Grove unless they needed to use the official portal arrays in the spire, and a crowd was already waiting there for him to return.

The Pentacles led the revived Witches through first, and moved away from the portal so they wouldn’t be trapped in between the onlookers and Wolfe when he returned.

Seeing what they were doing, he gave them thirty seconds to get out of the way, and then stepped through the portal to say hello to King Petros and the others who had gathered to greet him.

The Royals all gave him a matching salute, with their fists to their chests, while the citizens of Forest Grove bowed before him, and Wolfe let a bit of his aura slip in shock at the reverent scene.

“Welcome home, Your Majesty.” The citizens chorused in unison, followed by scattered giggling.

They all knew that he didn’t take himself all that seriously, so being called by his rank, even now that he was the King of Forest Grove, would be strange to him.

“Thank you all for the warm welcome home. It’s quite the honour to be welcomed home so warmly by what looks like the entire city. Even some of you that I know are on night shift are here today.” Wolfe greeted them.

The giggles turned to full out laughter.

The change in the world’s mana as it attuned itself to him, and the accompanying noise, was nearly impossible to sleep through. But Wolfe hadn’t noticed, as he was too busy with his advancement.

King Petros patted him on the shoulder. “Congratulations on achieving the nearly impossible. You made quite the stir with that storm cloud that blanketed the entire planet, and the change to the world’s mana.

But now comes the hard part. You’re the only true King of this world, so will you claim it?”

Everyone watched in silent expectation for Wolfe to answer. If he just wanted to keep the Frozen Wastes, the people of Forest Grove would understand, but they had been more exposed to other nations and cultures recently, and it was making them consider whether it might not be better for him to set standards for everyone, so that the whole world could live like they did.

“I will work toward leading this world out of its dark times. I’m not one who feels the need to lead with an iron fist, but some of the practices that are still ongoing among the nations are unacceptable. The living conditions as well. Given time, I believe that I can be a qualified leader for my world.” Wolfe agreed.

A massive cheer went up through the city, and Wolfe felt the mana disturbance as hundreds of messages were sent out by the Guardians and other representatives in the city.

The sensation of everyone using spells around him was an interesting one, but it did feel a bit like a violation of privacy. He was too well attuned to the mana of the world, and every spell that anyone used, including the activation of showers in the outer city, was clear to him.

Wolfe knew that he would get used to it in time, or just block out most of his mana sense so that he didn’t have to deal with all the clutter and background noise. It was just taking him some time.

“It’s a bit disorienting, isn’t it?” King Petros asked.

“More than a little. There is so much magic in use here, and I can sense it all, but I haven’t found the balance to ignore the little things yet.” Wolfe agreed.

Petros nodded. “You were there for the disorientation after my advancement, and I had much more time to prepare mentally than you did. You will get the hang of it soon.

Will you be holding an official coronation ceremony here in Forest Grove to announce your new position? If you are, I will be waiting on the official date.”

Wolfe chuckled. “I will get it sorted as soon as I can so that there is time to arrange a proper ceremony with all the necessary guests. I just need to sort out a few more things with the other nations first so that I don’t have to update the situation with every new treaty.”

Then Wolfe looked at the crowd, who were still kneeling in reverence. “Please, rise. There is no need to kneel and bow forever. We will work something out so that my presence in town doesn’t cause too much chaos.”

Once everyone was back on their feet, the flood began. Everyone moved forward to greet him, either formally or with the enthusiastic hugs that the beastkin were known for. It wasn’t going to end any time soon, but Wolfe knew that he couldn’t bring himself to turn them away, and he would remain there until they gave up on waiting.
