Chapter 1081: 1081 Grand Saint Wolfe

Wolfe opened his eyes when he was finished, and found himself staring deeply into the eyes of Vladimir, who had an array of spells active to examine the changes in Wolfe’s body.

“What did you do to yourself?” The vampire asked the moment Wolfe’s eyes opened.

“It is a technique practised by the denizens of the Lowest Planes, and it seemed effective for my current state, so I integrated their secondary mana focuses and pathways along with my mana cores.

I have my power restrained at the moment, but I can feel already that the change is going to make future advancements almost painless.” Wolfe explained.

“Well, at least your time was well spent.” The vampire replied with satisfaction.

“What do you mean?”

Vladimir gave him an amused look. “That happens to higher ranking Magi all the time. They lose track of time while studying. You’ve been in that chair for almost a month.”

“Crap. Is the Selkie alright? I was expecting an overnight visit and then a return home to study, not a month in the Library.”

Vlad laughed and gestured toward the wall on Wolfe’s left. “She is currently out playing on the waterslides in the backyard. They’re her new favourite spot.

The Cleansing Spell has been working wonders, and there is no visible miasma in this region anymore. We have had a few visitors in the past month, sent by the Queen of the Ocean, but none chose to enter the grounds, and they simply asked for an update before leaving again.”

“Well, if everyone is happy with the situation, I should send a message home so that they don’t get concerned about me. But then I have more studying and more work to do in order to fully understand the changes that occur at King Rank.” Wolfe replied.

Vlad bowed politely and tapped a note on the table beside Wolfe’s chair.

“I took the liberty of notifying your consorts. The ones bonded to you directly as consorts. I see that you already formed the Royal Pentacle, but courtesy dictates that until you are King in title, I contact your wives first, then they contact your advisors,” the vampire explained.

“How did they take it?”

Mischief sparkled in the old man’s eyes. “If my wife had used that language with me, I suspect that she would have learned what a spanking felt like. But I learned a few new words during our conversation.”

Wolfe laughed. “You can’t spank witches. They like it.”

Vlad blinked at him slowly.

“Noted.”

Wolfe closed his eyes again and began to sort through the information that he had gotten on the Lowest Realms and on the King Rank advancement. His next task was to try to merge the two, but it seemed that there was no actual information on the difference between Rank Eight and King Rank.

It would have been so obvious to anyone who had spent centuries around Kings and Queens that it wouldn’t have needed to be recorded, but that left Wolfe to piece together the missing parts which made a Magi King different from a Demon King or a Fae King.

Once he realized that he wasn’t going to find it in the records, Wolfe decided to go straight to the source and just ask someone who had seen it personally.

“Hey Vlad, I’m missing a bit of information. How is a Magi King’s energy different from a Demon King or Fae King?”

The vampire took a seat across from him and drummed his fingers on the arms of the chair.

“Now, I can say from observation, but as I never made it to that Rank I can’t really explain from firsthand experience. But the Demons are the pinnacle of Unholy Magic, as expressed through the souls residing in the Demon Realms. The Fae are the Pinnacle of Nature Magic, tinted with the nature of the Fae Realms.

But the Magi are of this world. Our magic embraces the Elements of our world, and the nature of the souls residing here.

So, a Magi King feels more like this world, if you know what I mean? I suppose you might not, as your magic is so heavily influenced by the Lowest Planes, but the Elemental part should still feel like the essence of this world, but overlaid with the living essence of the Lowest Planes, which is your personal influence.”

Wolfe sighed. It was an answer, but not an easy answer to interpret.

“I will have to work on that. I think the missing aspect is attuning my Elemental magic to the world. I’ve focused more on internal advancement, not on how it matches the world around me. During the Saint Rank, I started, then I kind of got sidetracked again.”

Vladimir chuckled. “That happens more often than you would think. I once spent fifty years trying to master a cooking technique, and made virtually no progress on my growth as a Magi. When you live as long as we do, a decade or two makes very little difference after you reach three or four hundred years old and lose that youthful exuberance.

So, as long as you can focus on reaching the Saint Rank, where you’ve got most of a thousand years before you need to advance or die, there isn’t any real rush.”

Wolfe nodded in understanding. He was young, but already losing track of time, so he could see how it would be possible to lose years at a time if there was nobody around to ground you. He had Cassie and Ella, plus all the others, so it shouldn’t be a major issue unless he was left unattended and immersed in the study of something.

“How far from being able to alter your mana cores to make a ninth do you think that you are?” Vladimir asked.

“I have finished with the rest of the process, I think. So I just need to know how to attune my mana and I should be able to form a new mana core on demand. I might be able to do it right now, but I get the feeling that if I get the attunement just right, it should go more smoothly.

A form of tribulation as the new King is advancing was mentioned, and if I get it wrong, I suspect that the damage to the surrounding areas could be catastrophic.”
