Inheritor Of Magic: The Magi King

Chapter 1080 The Ancient Kings’ Woes

Chapter 1080: 1080 The Ancient Kings’ Woes

[After the incident, it was eight hundred years before King David made his final push for King Rank using the traditional Noxus Family cultivation method, unaltered from before his encounter.

This is viewed to have been a colossal mistake when viewed by future generations. Alteration of the method has been wildly successful for those with the strongest Unholy Affinity.]

The book went into detail on the various ways that others had tried to alter their technique for building their mana cores.

That was where he found the information that he had been actually looking for. There were five basic methods for King Rank mana core formations.

First was the celestial formation, where they were scattered through the body along the user’s Prime Meridians, focusing on the ones that the King wanted to enhance most.

Second was the Nuclear formation, where the two central cores were bonded as a Proton and Neutron, much larger than the others, with the outer seven circling them.

Third was the Clenched Fist formation. Four cores formed the hand, and five formed the fingers. It allowed for more direct channelling of spells requiring dexterity, like fine manipulation of telekinetic effects or flight spells.

The Fourth was the Triskele formation, where three were stationary, and the other four made a complex loop around them.

That one just looked odd.

The Fifth simply made no sense at all. The mana cores were moved from the chest to the head, and attached to various areas of the skull, so that magic could be used instinctively without consciously forming arrays.

He got the concept, but the amount of mental damage that had to do would be insane. Linking your magic actively to your subconscious would cause all sorts of unwanted side effects, and there had to be some sort of special training that went with that to keep the practitioners from destroying everything around them when they had a weird dream.

None of them really seemed like they were going to be perfect for Wolfe, but the Nuclear Formation did at least make good logical sense.

“Is there any information on the mana cores and their formations among the denizens of the lowest planes?” Wolfe asked once he had sorted through the first round of books.

[Referencing. There are three works on that topic.]

Three seemed like pretty slim pickings, but it likely wasn’t a topic of interest for many, as the Magi were pacifists, so they wouldn’t be researching ways to kill the denizens of the Lowest Planes.

The information came in, and Wolfe was stunned. The Lowest Planes didn’t create a formation of the Mana Cores. They were still individual, and he could still sense them individually when he was there. However, they were no longer individual hard cores as he knew them, and they let the boundaries leak, so their entire body was imbued with magic.

That was what caused the mutations. The ones who were unable to keep the cores solidified long enough under the effects of their home Realm mutated into weaker beings, while those who held out the longest became incredibly powerful, but mutated anyhow.

That was why they all looked so insane, it was a result of uncontrolled mana altering their bodies.

Magi could counteract that, as it was a skill they trained, but the other species either lacked the capability or the knowledge, and the older Magi weren’t willing to share it with hostile beings.

He couldn’t really blame them, it wasn’t wise to spread knowledge that could be used against you, no matter how many times Wolfe had done it in his life already.

His mistakes were eventually going to become an issue for either Forest Grove or the world, but they had helped build a good reputation for the region, and that had been valuable in the early stages, even if it came back to bite them later.

The idea of letting the mana imbue his body, then using his power to alter the body itself to better accept the magic seemed like the best idea he had found so far.

It was a bit like the constellation method, but with nine cores in a formation, and then every minor energy focal point in the body having a smaller bundle of energy stored at it to enhance his power gathering and distribution capability.

There was no time like the present, and Wolfe began to test the viability of the method.

Forming the final core would be the last part of the process. First, he would see if he could form smaller mana focal points at all his meridians, as described in the book.

There were 12 primary points and 361 total points, so Wolfe started with the big twelve first. According to the study, they should be larger than the others, as they were transit points for spell casting.

It was similar to the mana pathways of the Witches, and Wolfe had a huge amount of experience with that. But he wasn’t just passing mana through the veins, he was creating focal points to store magic for instant reaction.

The focal points were similar to mana cores, only they didn’t start with a mana gland, but formed in an organ. The secondary ones formed in joints and intersections of bones in the body. That was where Wolfe was certain that most of the Lowest Planes denizens were screwing things up and mutating themselves.

If they messed up the first steps, they would kill themselves. But the second steps would mutate them.

First, Wolfe had to gently expand the mana capacity of the area, then reinforce it, to strengthen the cell walls, the same as he did for the Witches.

The further he got through the process, the faster and easier it got. The first round of formation created a small focal point, so he could create a network. The second and third expanded it, until he felt that he was reaching the natural limits of his own body.

That would be far enough. He didn’t need to push his luck and end up as a mutated spawn of the Lowest Planes.
