Chapter 1066: 1066 Next Step

The Royals were just starting to come out of their rooms when Wolfe and the others arrived at the underground dining room closest to his quarters.

“We put them here, where the mana was most dense, so it would be comfortable for them. These guest quarters don’t get used much, so it seemed like the logical choice.” Cassie explained.

Princess Thalami was the first one in, and she had a nostalgic look on her face as she entered the room.

“I know that we don’t turn the lights off when we leave the room, but I suspect some of this is nostalgic.” Wolfe greeted her.

“Indeed. I see that you found time to take a look through my history book. I have to say that the way you do it is really very close to how my David created the furniture, but your fashion sense is entirely different.

These red crystal tops are wonderful.” She replied with an eager smile.

Wolfe nodded. “They’ve been so popular that I never did change the decor of this area after I created it. There have been a few updates, but the basic theme hasn’t changed at all. The rest of the city has gone through a number of revisions, but not this area.”

King Drider walked in with the Fae Members of the Continental Representatives, and the two new Dark Fae members of the Pentacles.

“Wonderful accommodations. Trust a Magi to actually manage to make a city comfortable for both the Light and Dark Fae.” King Drider announced, before turning to flirt with one of Cook’s breakfast chefs.

The middle-aged Witch was both amused and flattered, but she wasn’t falling for simple flirting, and she was willing to play along with his game if it kept their guest happy.

“You know, the Light Fae always complain that curse energy is dirty, but I’ve always been fond of a dirty girl.” King Drider informed her with a wink.

“Are you certain that you’re not part incubus?” The Witch replied with a sly smirk.

She loaded his plate with the breakfast special, Forest Grove Eggs Benedict. They were actually vegan, and the egg was made of mushroom with savoury custard inside to emulate the runny yolk.

The Fae walked away with his food and took a seat before he actually looked at it.

He sniffed carefully at the plate, then looked back at the cook in shock.

Wolfe laughed. “None of us knew if you ate meat, but the other Elves don’t. In fact, many of the Fae don’t, so there is always an all-plant breakfast special.

We don’t have many animals in town, so it’s just easier this way. If you’re like the Wrathbringers and prefer meat protein, we can get you a nice stack of bacon.”

The Dark Elf laughed and shook his head. “I’m not all that picky with my food, I was just shocked that they had created something so unique for breakfast.

I get that everyone wants to impress the Royals, but this really is something else.”

Drazzit laughed and poked him in the side. “Don’t flatter him too much. This is the special at all the buffets in town today. They made thousands of servings of it, and we just got the same thing made from slightly higher grade magical ingredients because this dining hall is mostly used by higher Rank magic users.”

Wolfe shrugged. “What can I say? We eat well here. It’s one of the many advantages to having Witches around. They’re almost as good at gardening as the Fae are, and they’re quite creative with their recipes.”

“Only almost?” Princess Thalami teased.

“Have you seen a Dryad let loose in a garden? Not even the Witches can compare to that.” Wolfe agreed.

Monika laughed as she sipped Ale with her breakfast. “Dryads in a garden are like Dwarves in a Forge. Pure artistry.”

King Drider nodded in understanding. He didn’t actually spend much time with the Light Fae, though he was well aware of the capabilities of all their species. But if a proud Dwarf like Monika insisted that they were artists in the garden, nobody would argue.

Dwarves knew a thing or two about artistry.

“What’s next for Saint Noxus?” King Drider asked.

“I need to go deal with the aftermath of the sunken continent. It appears that the curses and angry spirits lingering around the continent are bothering the ocean creatures, and there is knowledge there that I should collect, as well as refreshing some of the spells so that they don’t let more problems loose, or destroy the intact parts of what was intended to be a memorial to the dead.” Wolfe explained, for the benefit of the others.

King Drider already knew what had happened to the Continent, but the others wouldn’t have any idea of just how bad things might actually get if the last of the protective spells collapsed with age.

Demon King Memo gave Wolfe a curious look. “What do you hope to find down in the depths of the ocean at a war memorial?”

Wolfe shrugged. “The Noxus Family’s ancestral home is there, intact and fully stocked. I should recover some of the lost knowledge. There should also be something there that will help me understand what is needed to advance to the King Rank.”

King Drider smiled. “I don’t think that it will be as hard as you’re thinking. If a Magi is born to be King, he will be King. If he isn’t, it will normally be clear that he isn’t.”

While that was likely true, the mana cores needed to be rearranged for the Ninth Rank, as the current formation didn’t seem like it would work, unless a second core would be linked to the central core, with the other seven encircling it.

Eight in the outer formation would throw off the balance, but there was no other obvious place for a ninth core to form.

Queen Elizabeth shrugged and smiled. “You will understand when you make it there. But it would be good if any remaining relics of the old Magi Clans were preserved for posterity. So much of their cultural heritage was lost before anyone could think to preserve it.”
