Kyle was on his way to his primary assignment and something told him he was being watched.

If the person who had sent him that message wasn’t the man he met then there was a good chance there was someone else in the picture.

He wasn’t sure who but either way, that person seemed to want to help him or at least this was what he concluded.

Kyle arrived at his destination but he wasn’t foolish enough to use his original car and opted to rent one from a nearby car dealer.

There was no way they would refuse him due to the amount he offered. He paid enough to buy it three times over, but this was why they allowed him to skip the necessary paperwork.

What was the saying about money? What money cannot do, more money would do it.

Kyle parked the car and tried his best to control his breathing, he knew this might escalate into a life-or-death scenario.

This was something he already had experience with and wasn’t too eager to relive it either.

He noticed someone come out of the warehouse, he had on gloves one would see in a hospital.

“Please God, don’t tell me they are harvesting organs…” This was the only thought in his head but who could blame him?

This was the mafia you were talking about, there couldn’t be anything good that comes from them.

Kyle got out of the car and waved the man down in the distance.

He had to be confident and if they were expecting him, he was safe for now.

The guy he waved down approached him.

Kyle knew he had to find a means to protect himself and that would be getting a gun.

But if he came here and they frisked him, it would give the wrong impression.

“Are you the one the boss sent?” The man asked, he had a cigarette between his lips.

No, that wasn’t a cigarette, the smell was something different.

“I wouldn’t be here otherwise, would I?” Kyle responded, looking him right in his eyes.

They were bloodshot and his pupils looked dilated but Kyle wasn’t going to look away.

Why? He had many characters he could draw from to pass himself off as a killer.

The man couldn’t hold Kyle’s gaze and instantly looked away the moment Kyle assumed character.

He wouldn’t have gotten this far if he didn’t have this skill and would have most likely gotten killed by the Mafia boss.

“My bad man, follow me,” The man conceded because the idea was a rich boy couldn’t be about this life so intimidating him a little would scare him straight.

However, this wasn’t the case.

Kyle was led into the warehouse expecting to see a dissected human being on the table or multiple children in cages.

But to his utmost surprise, this wasn’t the case.

Kyle saw a bunch of animals being…treated.

“What is going on here?” Kyle muttered.

The man beside him noticed his surprise and couldn’t blame him.

This was his exact reaction when he first started but it also showed a glimpse of the humanity Kyle had tried to hide.

“What does it look like? It is a shelter for wounded animals,” The man responded but there had to be something they weren’t telling him.

Kyle walked around for a second and it didn’t take him long to figure out what was really going on here.

There were bags of white substance and Kyle instantly realized this must be a means of smuggling drugs.

It was a genius idea in retrospect because this generation had a fascination with animal rights.

What better way to travel under the radar than to “help” animals?

This meant the people buying must have bought the animals and opened them up to retrieve the drugs so what happened to the animal?

Kyle felt disgusted but how fast he put the pieces together was nothing short of impressive.

He had connected the dots and instantly wished to put an end to it.

“The animals were abandoned, destined to die… We treat them and wait for them to heal before transporting them to our clients. I know what you’re thinking but the boss isn’t a monster,” The man said and Kyle looked at him with interest, waiting to hear what he had to say.

“The animals are treated well but what happens to the animals after they are removed?” The man said, pausing to face Kyle.

“They are treated and kept by the clients, and would be sent to us anytime they want to buy more and the boss adds a bonus depending on how well the dogs were taken care of,” He pointed out but what if they wanted to buy in packs?

There was only so much an animal could handle without it impacting their health.

This was inhumane, no doubt but there are not enough animal shelters to care for every abandoned animal in the world.

If it wasn’t possible, there would no doubt be animals that suffer at the hands of humanity’s cruelty.

This man must have brought Kyle here to show what kind of person he was.

He might be a criminal but he was one with conscience.

But this was one of many distribution methods used by them as they also used the traditional method however at an additional cost.

This was a strange method but it must have been effective because none of these dogs looked like they were in distress.

If anything, they looked happy and this was enough for Kyle.

“What do you need me to do?” Kyle asked but the man was confused.

“We need you to act as our gateway to get this into the heart of the industry,” The man said and Kyle instantly knew whatever they were peddling wasn’t something as simple as cocaine because the industry had enough of this.

So it must be a new drug; they wanted Kyle to be the one to put the syringe in their veins.

But would Kyle be willing to go this far for the sake of his goals?
