The scent was so delicious that Kong Pili and Kong Li gulped.

“What is this?” Kong Li asked while peering at the bottle of sauce in Yu Mai’s hands. Her eyes were glittering. If not for the fact that it would be rude to snatch the sauce bottle from Yu Mai, she would have done so!

Even Kong Pili’s eyes lit up when she saw the mushroom sauce that Yu Mai brought with him. She was however a bit more reserved than Kong Li as she did not rush over. Instead, she looked at the jar of sauce and questioned, “Is this sauce that your sister made? It smells really good.”

Yu Mai smiled proudly and nodded. He replied, “Of course, this is something that my sister made. She is still working on the recipe which is why this sauce is not sold anywhere. You can never find a replica of this sauce in any town or city.”

After he finished speaking, he didn’t forget to add, “But don’t fret, Mai always shares the good things with his friends.”

This was what Chen Mi told Mother Chen when he brought a jar of sauce with him to his mother’s house. Yu Mai who had followed him also heard those words and remembered them well.

How could he not? His sister was the one who was praised!

Yu Mai could forget the praises with which he was showered but there was no way he was going to forget the praises that his sister was given.

Kong Li’s eyes brightened when she heard the words of Yu Mai. She said, “Really? Does it really taste so good? Does it taste better than the candy that my mother brought from the capital? I still remember the taste of the candy. It was really memorable.”

“Really do you have more of that candy?” Yu Mai asked with a tilt of his head. Though he did not think that any candy would taste more delicious than the ice cream that his sister made, he still wanted to taste this memorable candy.

Upon hearing his query, Kong Li’s smile stiffened, she lowered her head and shook it. She replied, “No, it’s all gone.”

What a pity all of that candy went in the stomach of her cousins. As her daddy handed the candy jar to her second aunt who took it away and did not leave even a single candy behind.

When Kong Li made a fuss, her daddy beat her up and asked her to be sensible.

How could she be the sensible one when her cousins were older? It was simply too much!

“Oh, it’s okay,” Yu Mai did not think too much. He once tried to think a lot and ended up getting a headache, which also upset his stomach. Back then his third brother-in-law told him that thinking too much was the cause of pain and one must avoid it.

An empty head was the key to happiness. No thoughts— No sadness.

Yu Mai handed the sauce jar to Kong Li and said, “I will share this sauce with you. It is really not delicious to eat bland noodles, this sauce has dried jerky and meat —there is also a lot of oil and seasoning. So it tastes really good, mix it with the noodles. You will definitely like it.”

Kong Li and Kong Pili wanted to refuse but the scent and aroma of the sauce was indeed too good. They could not resist it.

Yu Mai took the clean spoon that Chen Mi had left inside the jar and scooped a good amount of sauce in it. He poured it all into the bowls of the two sisters and said, “You can eat now.”

Kong Li was already too greedy to eat the sauce when she first smelled the scent. She immediately took a bite of the noodles.

When Kong Pili saw the actions of her sister, she found it a bit humiliating and embarrassing but the scent of the sauce was indeed too good to ignore. She lowered her head and said, “Then I will take a bite as well.” She could not wait to eat it.

As soon as she took a bite of the noodles that were now soaked in the mushroom sauce, her eyes widened in shock. How could a sauce be this delicious? It was so delicious that the bland noodles were devoured in seconds.

Kong Pili still held back a little but her little sister did not have the same qualms.

After eating the noodles quickly, Kong Li was disappointed. She looked down at her stomach which was slightly bloated. Though she had eaten enough, Kong Li thought it was not enough. She looked down at the bland vegetable soup mixed with the sauce and licked her lips before slurping everything.

She looked down at the bowl which was licked clean by her almost wistfully.

This sauce was really too delicious.

Even Kong Pili wanted to eat another bowl of noodles.

Seeing the wistful looks on their faces, Yu Mai blinked his eyes. He said to the two sisters, “You can have this jar of sauce.”

“No—no…that would be too much,” Kong Pili was shocked when she heard that Yu Mai was willing to hand such a good thing to her and her sister. But she still had some tact left, she immediately refused and suppressed her greed.

She was worried that if Yu Mai gave this jar to her and her sister, then he would be punished by his sister.

“There is no need to hold back,” said Yu Mai as he handed the jar to the two sisters without any worries in his beautiful eyes. “We have enough sauce for the journey and didn’t I say that my sister is still testing the recipe, this is not the final recipe.”

Upon seeing Yu Mai insist, the two sisters didn’t refuse any further. They took the jar of sauce and thanked Yu Mai again and again.

At the same time, in the backyard of the inn, a woman was kneeling in front of a mer. She held the hands of the mer and said to him almost pleadingly, “Brother, you will have to help me.”
