When Madam Kong heard Yu Mai’s soft and sticky voice, her heart turned into a mush. She had to admit that Yu Mai was really a cute mer, he seemed to have inherited all the good points of his parents and looked so cute that Madam Kong wanted to hug Yu Mai.
After all, she only had daughters and no mers. Her husbands were really good at giving birth and only gave birth to daughters and no mers. In the past Madam Kong did not think that it was too much of a loss.
But now looking at the cute little mer in front of her, she suddenly wished she had a mer son as well. Mer’s sons were so cute as well.
She wanted to ask Yu Dong to agree to the engagement but upon thinking it carefully, Madam Kong decided to not be too eager. What if she pushed the matter and it made Yu Dong wary of her intentions?
Wouldn’t she lose her son-in-law like that? Anyway, if she were to introduce her daughter and Yu Mai, the two of them would naturally get closer to one another.
Madam Kong surely knew how to dream beautifully.
“Can you open two rooms for us, Madam Kong?” Yu Dong did not know what was going on in Madam Kong’s mind, she asked Madam Kong politely.
She looked around the crowd which was filling the inn to the brim and said, “If it’s too difficult then you can tell me.”
“There is no need to worry about such a thing,” said Madam Kong with a smile. “Though business is booming, because of the drought, I still have a few rooms which are unoccupied.” She looked at the ledger and questioned, “Do you want the normal room or the ones that have bathing arrangements?”
“The one with bathing arrangements,” Yu Dong answered without even thinking. What else could she do if the weather was too hot?
She was used to taking a bath every day, there was no way she could even think of spending a day without washing.
Madam Kong nodded as she noted Yu Dong’s name in the ledger, she then paused and said, “It will be a bit expensive, will it be fine?”
“It will be fine as long as we have enough water to take a bath.”
Madam Kong smiled happily as she replied, “There is no need to worry about this, I heard about the drought from one of my customers. She told me that the south was facing drought, I knew something was wrong, so I immediately dug a few wells.”
“You will have enough water to take a bath.”
Yu Dong didn’t have any problems after hearing Madam Kong’s words. She also knew that the woman was honest and would not cheat her so she immediately handed the money to Madam Kong once she reported the price to Yu Dong.
Once Yu Dong was done paying for the rooms, she took Yu Le and Yu Mai to the rooms which were assigned to them.
Yu Le was given a separate room while Yu Dong and Yu Mai decided to share one room.
Yu Dong had woken up early and was a little tired, so she turned to look at Yu Mai and said to him, “Mai, sister will be taking a nap. You stay inside the room and even if you want to go out, don’t step out of the inn and don’t follow anyone. Even if Madam Kong asks you, tell her that you will wait for me to wake up.”
It was not that Yu Dong did not trust Madam Kong but as Yu Mai was getting older, he was getting more and more restless. If someone was not paying attention to him, he would end up following someone he shouldn’t.
Yu Dong was worried about his safety and thus asked Yu Mai not to leave the inn.
In fact, she would not have taken a nap if possible but it was impossible.
She was responsible for guarding two mers, so while travelling she could not sleep in the carriage. Taking a small nap in the inn was the only way to keep herself awake.
“I understand, sister. Mai promises that I will not go outside,” said Yu Mai with a sweet smile.
Seeing that Yu Mai had agreed to not go outside, Yu Dong nodded and then went to take a nap.
Once her breathing smoothened, Yu Mai started playing with his soft toys and the small cooking set that Yu Dong had made for him from wood.
He used this set to play with Lang Ru.
However, after playing around for a while he felt bored and turned to look at Yu Dong.
He looked at his sister for a long time before standing up while clutching his teddy bear.
“It is fine if I play in the inn right?” Yu Mai thought about what his sister told him and felt that he was indeed in the right. His sister said to him that he could play inside the inn.
It should be fine as long as he did not go outside.
With that thought in his head, Yu Mai marched out of the room. The legs of the giant teddy bear were dragged on the floor.
He opened the door and then headed out of the room. His beautiful starry eyes looked left and right before he went to the stairs that led him to the ground floor of the inn.
However, as soon as he arrived at the ground floor, Yu Mai heard someone sniffle.
Startled, he looked down at his teddy bear. Not crying. His Little Bear was really obedient. But if his little bear was not crying, who was?
Yu Mai looked around the inn and finally, his gaze fell on a sleeve of a shirt sticking out from underneath the staircase.
He blinked his eyes walked over to where the person was hiding and crouched down.
With his head sticking inside the staircase, Yu Mai found two girls sitting underneath, both of them were holding a broken bowl of watery noodles with no meat.
Yu Mai looked at the sorry-looking noodles and questioned, “Where is the meat?”
“AHHH!!!”
