The prison was stifled. The atmosphere was silent and oppressive.
Even the Sovereign of Sin, an unparalleled expert within the Great Profound Stage, was a bit hesitant. Just what terrifying things had that young Immortal King prepared for them outside the prison? Would they meet with disaster the moment they emerged? None of them could answer, and none of them wanted to be the first to risk themselves.
But Su Yi was a bit impatient. He sighed. “Relax. If I wanted to kill you through trickery and external power, you'd have died the day I first opened the prison door.”
The Sovereign of Sin said gravely, “My young friend, why did you suddenly make this decision? What are you after?”
“I’m here to sever our enmities and determine life and death,” said Su Yi. “If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to emerge one at a time. I promise not to attack until you’ve all exited the prison.”
His words were forthright and open, and seemed incomparably magnanimous.
The old monsters couldn’t help but hesitate. Could it be that… we’ve jumped to conclusions?
The Sovereign of Sin quickly reached a decision. His eyes flashed, and he said, “Old Devil Star Lake, you go out first.”
“Ah? Me?” Old Devil Star Lake stiffened, suddenly frantic.
The Sovereign of Sin said amiably, “Don’t be afraid. It’s a simple choice. Either you go out now, or I beat you to death. What’s so hard about that?”Old Devil Star Lake no longer dared hesitate. He immediately left the prison.
Not long after, his voice emanated from outside. “Everyone, I'm fine. Come on out!”
The old monsters were instantly in uproar.
The Sovereign of Sin glanced at another old monster. “Old Tu, you’re next. Everyone else will exit after you, one at a time. Remember, if anything unexpected happens…”
Here, he trailed off, then transmitted the rest of his warning. He was obviously afraid that Su Yi would overhear.
The other old monsters left one after the other, but nothing unexpected happened.
Finally, the Sovereign of Sin was the last one left. He took a deep breath, smoothed out his long white eyebrows, then gnashed his teeth and shot out of the prison.
The moment he arrived in the bronze palace, his entire body rumbled and boomed as he circulated the full extent of his cultivation base.
Even more strikingly, around a dozen treasures appeared all over his body: a heart-protecting mirror, armor, Daoist seals, and other defensive treasures, as well as offensive treasures like talismans, a spear, and a string of prayer beads. Resplendent divine radiance and dazzling Dao Light emanated from them.
He was armed to the teeth!
But a moment later, he was unwittingly stunned. The hall was perfectly quiet. All was well.
The five old monsters who’d left the prison ahead of him had gathered together at the center of the hall. When they saw the Sovereign of Sin arm himself, their expressions shifted inscrutably. They’d reacted the same way; all of them had been thoroughly on guard. Still, they hadn’t expected the Sovereign of Sin, an unparalleled Immortal Sovereign and the last to leave their prison, to be so cautious. They couldn’t help but find it a bit strange.
The Sovereign of Sin felt a bit ill at ease, and his face heated up. It seems my behavior really was a bit… embarrassing?
A moment later, someone else drew his attention.
It was a young man in blue robes. He was seated casually in the doorway, his back against the doorframe, and he was sipping from a jug of wine. The light of the heavens poured down, bathing him in mysterious light. His entire body emanated leisurely contentment.
This is that young Immortal King, Su Yi? The Sovereign of Sin arched an eyebrow.
But what really surprised him was that even now that all of them had emerged, Su Yi… really didn’t seem like he had any intention of ambushing them!
Meanwhile, Su Yi put away his jug of wine, rose, and issued a warning. “Outside, heaven and earth are still covered in the Laws of Annihilation. You’d best be careful.”
“....”
It sounded like a well-intentioned warning, but was it really? No! He obviously just didn’t take them at all seriously.
“Little Fellow… don’t tell me you haven’t arranged anything to defeat us with?” The Sovereign of Sin looked at Su Yi, eyes flashing. As lofty as he was, he couldn’t quite see through this young Immortal King.
It wasn’t just him, either. The others felt the same. It wasn’t that they were cowardly; this situation was just too strange. Add that to the way eight old monsters had died in rapid succession fighting Su Yi, and they really, truly dared not underestimate Su Yi.
Su Yi smiled. “When I tell the truth, people seldom believe me. The world really is strange.”
He paused, then said, “Relax. I just want to duke it out and end things once and for all.”
His sleeves billowed around him as he circulated his cultivation base, and his presence transformed completely.
He stood in the doorway, like a solitary warrior single-handedly blocking a pass!
The Sovereign of Sin’s eyelids twitched. “Wait!”
“What is it?”
The Sovereign of Sin said amiably, “I can tell that you’re a sensible sort, and it seems to me that there’s no grudge between us. Why must we kill each other? Please, show mercy and let us go. If you do, we’ll weep endless tears of gratitude!”
The other old monsters nodded along.
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh, his gaze playful. “I dare say with certainty that if I take even the slightest step back, you’ll attack without hesitation!”
They were probing him. If he backed down, it would indicate that he was unsure of his chances and afraid to fight them. The old monsters would surely turn on him and attack without mercy!
The Sovereign of Sin narrowed his eyes and shook his head. “My young friend, you’ve jumped to conclusions. All we want is to live! We have no intention of doing you any harm, nor are we willing to put our lives on the line!”
He spoke with incontrovertible force. He sounded convincing and confident.
But a mocking arc tugged at Su Yi’s lips. “No, all of you must die today.”
Whoosh!
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he vanished.
The old monsters’ hearts sank, and they attacked in full force without the slightest hesitation.
Kaboom!
Divine light ran rampant. Treasure light rumbled through the air. Each of them immediately drew upon whatever they’d been keeping in return, holding nothing back. They were completely on guard.
Su Yi, meanwhile, appeared before a man in fiery Daoist robes, pressed his fingers into a sword, and slashed.
Bang!!
The fiery-robed Daoist’s defensive treasures were sent flying, and he too was forced back. He slammed into one of the hall’s bronze pillars, hard.
“Within the Great Profound Stage, you’re at best second rate.” Su Yi shook his head.
“Die!” The other old monsters had already locked onto Su Yi, and all of them attacked explosively. They were seething with terrifying murderous intent, and they fought without reservation and surrounded Su Yi. They wanted to trap and destroy him.
That went for the Sovereign of Sin, too. When he fought, the kindly-looking old man seemed like a completely different person. A bloody, sinister vision of purgatory floated around him, and his murderous intent was so dense that it almost seemed tangible. His expression was now cold and cruel, and when it came to sheer majesty, none of the others could compare.
Su Yi was surrounded, but he didn’t panic. On the contrary, he laughed and fought with all his might.
Boom!
He’d tempered his strength to the very limit. Now, he drew upon it all. Thousands upon thousands of illusory swords manifested around him, blanketing heaven and earth in an endless Sword Domain!
Just like that, a grand battle broke out.
Su Yi darted about the battlefield, single-handedly fighting six Great Profound Stage old monsters. The fierce combat shook the entire palace, and the aftershock swept out like an avalanche.
In the blink of an eye, Su Yi reached a conclusion.
The Sovereign of Sin was the strongest of the group, and he presented the greatest threat. Even in a one-on-one battle, Su Yi would have struggled to defeat him. Of the remaining five, Old Devil Star Lake was just a soul body. It was safe to overlook him. As for the others, only one of them was a second-rate expert; three were first-rate!
Su Yi fought with all his might, but in the face of such an encirclement, he was beset by peril on all sides. Before long, his predicament was precarious indeed.
His enemies were just too strong, and they outnumbered him. Furthermore, all of them fought with the knowledge that their lives were on the line, unleashing all manner of treasures and hidden cards.
Su Yi, meanwhile, fought alone and barehanded. The disparity was extraordinarily huge.
But this was exactly what Su Yi wanted to see. He needed to fight, fight, fight, even if it meant getting injured. Only then could he fully awaken his latent potential and use this perilous life-or-death trial to cross the threshold of the Great Realm!
“The little bastard really didn’t prepare any traps!” someone said in disbelief.
“That’s not all. He isn’t even using any treasures!” someone else exclaimed. “How… could someone so stupid exist in this world?”
The other old monsters were quite surprised too. They could never have understood why Su Yi had let them out, much less why he dared to fight them all at once, all by himself.
It was unbelievable! How could anyone with even half a brain have done something so foolish?
“Careful!” bellowed the Sovereign of Sin. “We’ve yet to determine a victor. Don’t even think of underestimating him!”
He was flabbergasted too, but he was ill at ease. Their battle just didn’t seem right. Everything about it seemed fishy.
“Quick! Let’s rally and destroy him all at once!” urged the Sovereign of Sin. He used his killer weapon too; he’d practically gone mad.
“Die!”
The old monsters had all experienced the ups and downs of worldly affairs. They naturally knew that they had to do their utmost to destroy Su Yi before they did anything else.
None of them would get complacent at a time like this.
In the face of this encirclement, Su Yi soon found himself covered in wounds. His blue robes were tattered and bloodstained.
Some of his attackers looked excited. They could sense that Su Yi wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
But some of them were startled, too. He was just an Immortal King, and he was thoroughly surrounded, yet he could withstand the full-force joint onslaught of six Great Profound Immortal Sovereigns at once. How terrifying was that?
The Sovereign of Sin could keenly sense that as Su Yi’s wounds piled on, his valiant spirit and will to fight intensified. Moreover, his essence, qi, and spirit blazed like a furnace!
“Could it be that he plans to borrow our hands to seek an opportunity to break into the Great Realm amidst life-or-death peril?” thought the Sovereign of Sin. However, he immediately rejected the idea.
Even if he welcomed his opportunity to break through, so what? He was surrounded and under attack. There was no way to undergo tribulation like this; if he tried, he’d die beyond a doubt. Undergoing a Great Realm Grand Tribulation while injured to the brink of death was no different from suicide!
