First Demonic Dragon

Chapter 982 - 982: Replacement

Eventually, Audrina realized that they had learned the full amount of information that they were capable of finding here.

If they were going to get to the bottom of what exactly Dagon was doing here, then they needed to try to get into some of the domed colonies and see if they had any more information available.

It seemed like the entire group recognized this fact all at once, because they all began moving to the door at the same time.

Well, except for one.

“What about them..?”

Audrina stopped in her tracks and turned around.

Isabelle stood beside Glenn’s body with an anticipatory look. It was the same one she used to wear when they were kids, in fact.

“We arent just… going to leave them here after what that old bastard did… right?” She asked hopefully.

That innocent look broke her sister’s heart.

“I’m afraid we dont really have a choice.” Nyx said apologetically. “We’ve already interfered in their lives quite a bit… They are still mortals.”

“Yes, but they’re dealing with some very immortal-like shit right now, so the least we can do is help them since we’re here, right?”

Nyx wore an exhausted smile.

The hardest part of having friends, acquaintences, and even family who were not divine beings was that some times seeing eye to eye was difficult to achieve.

It was easier if you were a low-ranking deity like a river god of something. Then you could answer any questions of ‘Why won’t you do this’ with ‘I’m not powerful enough’.

But when you were a primordial deity like Audrina and her family, that answer suddenly becomes dramatically less satisfactory to people.

Trying to explain to them the laws against interference is a headache in and of itself. Especially when they try to explain how they make a concerted effort not to trample Asherah’s generosity towards them.

Giving the colonists a little food was nothing. In the divine grand scheme of things, it wasn’t very different from j-walking.

But judging by Isabelle’s eyes, Audrina could guess that her sister wanted something a bit more involved than that.

“…What are you thinking?”

“That we can’t just leave them like this…” Isabelle gestured to the cavern around them. “Our father did this to them. As his children, dont we have some responsibility to fix it?”

Nyx started to say no almost instantly.

However, Audrina stepped forward first and caught them both by surprise.

“Will you tell me what you wanted me to do?”

For the first time, Isabelle didn’t have any kind of sharp comeback. There was just surprise on her face.

“…Just like that?”

Audrina smiled at her sister fondly. “You are my sister. I would do anything for you, regardless of the consequences.”

Isabelle had never once heard her sister say those words or anything like them before. They were so unexpected, she was starting to think that maybe she’d gotten compeled without knowing it as well.

Isabelle was feeling a lot more meek now than she was a second ago. It was hard for her to meet her sister’s gaze after all of that cheesy stuff she’d just said.

“Could you just… find them somewhere nice they can stay..? Where they won’t starve to death..”

“…How cute.”

“D-Don’t be a jerk, just say yes or n-“

“Of course I will.”

Audrina pulled out her phone and started dialing a phone number as she walked away.

Isabelle was once again wondering just how she felt about her sister.

“Alright… Seems like that’s all of them. We’re heading back home now, babe.” Valerie waved before she turned to the small bundle in her arms. “Say goodbye to mommy, pookie-bear.”

Gabbrielle looked completely unamused even with her adorably childlike form.

“Please, mother. Allow me some semblance of dignity.”

“No!” Valerie placed the largest smooch on her cheek that her lips were capable of producing.

Despite her protests and complaints, Gabbrielle neither fought off or seemed displeased with her mother’s affections. Thugh she did try extra hard to stuff down that smile of hers.

Audrina kissed both of them tenderly for a moment before she sent them both through a portal that led home.

Once they were gone, Audrina tossed an ornate glass and golden ball toward her sister.

“Catch.”

Isabelle caught the item and stared down at it with a look of constant disbelief. Even after witnessing everything those three had done, it still felt like a weird dream.

Creating a pocket dimension and binding it to a meager piece of china in the time that it took a hot pocket to warm up was defineitely something that she was going to remember for the rest of her life.

Nevi’im could learn to do a lot of things if they studied long enough. But there were certain powers that never left the royal family’s bloodline for good reason.

Rather than being jealous of something that she couldn’t do, Isabelle was almost inspired.

“So, what’d you think?” Audrina wrapped her arm around her neck. “Your big sister is kinda cool, huh?”

In less than a second, all of the intruige that Isabelle felt dissipated. “Oh please, you didnt even do anything…. you just called your wife and child for backup.”

“I’m sorry, but I believe that counts as something.” Audrina said with a superior tone.

After everything she had just seen Isabelle decided to throw her sister a small bone.

“Fine.. thank you.” She conceded.

Audrina grinned with an innocent yet proud light.

The two of them made their way out of the now-empty colony, with their relationship showing some signs of mending.

Their companions followed behind them at a comfortable distance. This was the closest that the sisters had seemed all day.

As they walked towards one of the domed cities, Audrina still had et to take her arm from around her sister.

The two moved together in close proximity not saying anything but clealry growing more and more appreciative of each other’s presences.

“…I meant what I said, you know.”

It had been so long since Audrina spoke, her sister hadnt expected it. Her voice only confirmed just how close they were right now. “…I know you did.”

Audrina gently placed her head against her sister’s. “I missed you, you know… I thought we were going to work through things, and then you just stopped coming around… stopped answering my calls.”

Isabelle bit her lip. “…I’m sorry about that. I just… couldn’t do it.”

“If I did something wrong, then please tell me so I can-“

“It’s… not you.” Isabelle shook her head. “I just kind of… felt like the odd man out, you know..?”

“What? Why would you feel like that??”

There were several different answers to that question. “I-I just… felt that you were closer with every other person in the house than you were with me. All of you just… click for some reason. You all have these little nicknames for each other and any two of you can strike up a conversation about absolutely nothing, and..”

“I-Is this about that time you tried to watch a movie with me and my mother-in-law?”

“YES! I couldn’t understand anything Imani was saying!”

“That’s just because she’s Cajun.”

“And all of those inside jokes you guys were sharing that I had no clue about? What the hell is ‘Sexual Chocolate’.”

“My husband after two shots of tequila. I thought that was obvious…”

Isabelle sighed as she pulled away from her sister and wrapped her arms around herself.

“L-Look, Drina, I just… it feels like during the time I was trapped in that limbo you were out here living your life and… replacing me. For the love of god, we don’t even really look alike anymore.”

Audrina touched her own face like this was news to her. But Isabelle was right.

Audrina’s lilac colored skin and Isabelle’s slate colored version were the least of their differences.

At best, you could say they had a slight resemblance. Most people who looked at the two of them would say that they were distant cousins.

“I … I resented you for everything that you have now. I worked my whole life trying to make you and our father happy. Trying to get at least one of you to love me. And where did it get me? What do I have left..?”

“You have me…” Dark tears threatened to fall from Audrina’s eyes. “And I know that hasn’t always meant something, but I… want you in my life more than anything else.”

Isabelle wouldn’t allow herself to look at her sister. She couldn’t.

If she looked into her sister’s eyes, she would break down. She didn’t need some kind of tearful crying session, just an opportunity to say what was on her mind.

“…I’m sorry, but… I don’t know if we can ever get back to that.” Isabelle said honestly.

Audrina stopped walking while tears finally spilled out of her eyes.

Isabelle proceeded to walk a little faster and put some distance between the two.

All the while, she left Audrina to digest her words on her own while she shed some persistent tears…
