First Demonic Dragon

Chapter 981 - 981: In The Dark

Isabelle almost fell flat on her face.

She couldn’t believe her sister’s whole plan was just to walk up and knock on the door like she was a god damn pizza delivery man. It was the most unthinkable thing she had ever seen in her life.

She opened her mouth to chastise her sister when she smelled something powerful fill the air.

Fear.

There was so much of it that Isabelle was having a hard time believing her senses. Even taking into account their numbers, all of their hearts should have stopped before they could have put out this much terror.

Just what had happened here to cause all of this…?

“It’s alright.” Audrina said to the door. Her voice was as sweet as honey, and as enticing as a cold bed. “Be not afraid, little lambs. No one here is going to harm you.”

Isabelle felt her jaw twitch. This part of her sister was the hardest to swallow.

Everyone else got to see this charming seductress who was good with words and was a regular Martha Stewart.

She got the pushy bitch who made fun of her, stole her men, stole her women, stole her toys, and stole every single goddamned opportunity that she had for-

*Creak!*

The door lurched open, and a wave of fresh air rushed out.

An older alien man walked out.

His face was insect-like. Instead of normal skin, or even fur, he had an armored exoskeleton like a cockroach.

He had eight beady black eyes in his head and a mandible jaw. For some reason, his eyes contained a lingering purple glow that threatened to fade at any moment.

The language he used when speaking to her wasn’t any language Audrina was directly familiar with, but she could follow the gist of it.

“Ah… It’s you, my lady. So nice to see you.” He responded warmly. “Why are you outside and… who are these people with you..?”

Isabelle nearly gave herself whiplash. Until she remembered exactly who her sister was.

Charming mass amounts of people all at once wasn’t an insane thing for Nevi’im to be able to do. It was quite easy, in fact.

But this just had a way of reminding Isabelle of how her sister was always better than her at compulsion.

Audrina smiled at the man in a friendly manner. “I’m sorry…. I don’t believe that I remember your name very well.”

He rubbed the back of his head as if he were embarrassed to hear that. “No, I suppose you would… This one’s name is Glintranoxis.”

“…I’m going to call you Glenn. Is that alright with you?”

“Certainly, madam.”

Eventually, Glenn looked around and seemed disappointed when he never found what he was looking for.

“I assumed… You had gone out here on a supply run. Did you find no food..?”

Audrina smiled warmly. “Is that all you need? Accommodations can be made then.”

Glenn glanced at Gandora sitting in the back.

She was immediately offended.

“No, not her.” Audrina clarified.

“Oh, alright.”

Glenn finally stepped aside to allow the rest of them inside.

Their eyes were greeted to an entire underground colony, filled with more bug-like people than what Isabelle could reasonably count all at once.

All of them seemed to have that same faint purple glow in their eyes. That was probably the only reason they weren’t being treated to extreme hostility right about now.

Glenn turned to address he colony. “No need to worry, everyone.. It’s only Missus Audrina. And she’s brought food for us..!”

Excited clicking noises filled the hall quickly, along with more than a few anticipatory stares.

“No, it’s not the four-legged creature.” Glenn clarified.

The colonists were a little bit less excited now, but still thrilled.

Audrina placed her hand over her lower stomach and closed her eyes.

Underneath her clothes, her crest changed color for but a moment and became slightly larger.

Audrina reopened her eyes and held out her hand.

With an audible ‘poof’ several tables lined with chicken and several other kinds of meat were placed around the colony.

Noises of audible zeal escaped from the bugs. Even if they had never seen most of these meats before, they could tell that it was at the very least edible.

They seemed not to be able to move fast enough to reach them and dive in.

The only one Audrina held back was Glenn.

“Ah, wait one moment there, friend.”

“Oh, pardon me. Yes?”

Audrina made another chicken leg and handed it to Glenn so that he could at least have something to snack on.

“Could you tell us what happened here? I fear my memories are more than a little bit rusty at the moment.

Glenn made a noise that sounded oddly similar to laughter. “You are getting up there in years, aren’t you?”

Isabelle and Nyx suppressed their snickers. Audrina was suddenly beginning to regret feeding these wretches.

“Ah, well… you know it started when the dark rain came. he black one rode in on an umbral storm and descended on our world like a scourge… He claimed that though we were lesser, we held some usefulness…”

Audrina held out her hand, and a swirling mass of shadow was created.

Within it, one could see a very specific figure on display.

Glenn had seemed relatively relaxed and easy going so far, but he suddenly paused with a piece of chicken mere inches away from his mandibles.

“W-Why do you have… t-t-t-tha..”

“I’m just trying to confirm something, Glenn.” Audrina put the spell away. “You don’t need to panic or anything like that, alright?”

Glenn dropped his chicken on the ground. “H-He’s not going to find this place, is he..? W-W-We don’t have much time left anyway until we all die.. h-he can’t turn us into them..!”

“Them..?” Isabelle raised a brow.

Unfortunately, it seemed like Glenn was barely even listening anymore.

He was hunched over, holding his head between his hands and muttering to himself incomprehensibly.

Audrina thought this was her fault.

She had been trying to take the less invasive approach by having Glenn volunteer everything that he knew, but she had underestimated the amount of lingering trauma still in his mind.

“It’s alright, Glenn. You’ve done very well, so you can rest now…”

Audrina placed her hand on top of Glenn’s flat head.

He finally stopped shaking when his body lost all of it’s rigidity and he fell over face down.

None of the other colonists paid any attention to them. Rather, they just kept their focus on the food in front of them and didn’t even bother to look up.

Audrina was halfway sure that they would have done that even if she hadn’t compelled them. They were starving after all.

Audrina dropped to her knee beside Glenn.

Placing her hand on the back of his shell, she closed her eyes and began to concentrate.

“Ah, share with the rest of the class, please..?” Nyx whispered.

“…” Audrina turned Glenn’s memories into physical projections that they could see.

Like he said, there was first a black cloud. And an armored figure was carried by it.

He came and dropped a handful of what looked like glowing dust.

The colony’s inhabitants, not knowing what it was, were unafraid at first and came into direct contact with the dust.

What happened next was something so dreadful that Nyx and Isabelle felt like they were going to be sick.

The powder mutated and destabilized the people. Their bodies broke themselves to fit specific mutations.

Even parts of their mind seemed to melt and escape through holes in their faces. Audrina had no idea what was controlling their motor functions now.

This sight would have been dreadful enough on its own if she hadn’t kept watching.

The infected began chasing down their friends and former allies.

From there, a clear disparity in physical abilities could be witnessed.

The transformed were stronger, their bodies tougher. The colonists’ strength was only about the same as that of the average human, but these infected surpassed that in spades.

Glenn saw flashes of a pandemic setting in.

The colonies containing the rihest and most powerful members of society isolated themselves behind prismatic domes. Everyone else was left to fend for themselves.

That was a year ago. Glenn had lost a lot of comrades since then.

Audrina finally stood up once the memories reached the present day. She let Glenn continue sleeping on the floor.

“S-So… It’s an outbreak, then.” Nyx said first.

“Sure seems that way…” Audrina tried not to show how shaken up she was.

Truthfully, of all the supernatural creatures, zombies were her very least favorite. She didn’t like horror movies or ghosts either.

If she knew things were going to be like this, she would have brought Lailah or Bekka here. Those two ate stuff like this up.

“But there’s something I don’t get..”

Everyone turned to glance at Isabelle, who was wearing a deeply disturbed expression.

“Bug boy said Dad told them they had some uses, right..? Then what could he possibly want with them like that?”

Audrina didn’t know either, but given the implications of everything they had learned since being here, the implications were far from positive…
