Night had fallen, and the rain kept pouring.
The entire Goliath Winery was engulfed in darkness, and from a distance, only a silhouette could be seen.
It was now 20:03 in the evening.
Du Wei stood in the woods outside Goliath Winery, holding an umbrella, shrouded in the darkness.
He wore a mask, radiating a startling chill.
It was because of the black umbrella.
This umbrella, which he had snatched at school, housed an Evil Spirit. As long as the umbrella was open, he was constantly being watched by it.
But Du Wei didn’t feel the slightest impact, or rather, such a not-so-powerful Evil Spirit’s oppression could be completely ignored.
Now in his hands, the umbrella served no purpose other than for future balancing acts, and merely to shield from the rain.
He had been in the woods for quite some time.During this time, vehicles kept driving into Goliath Winery.
It had been over half an hour since the last car entered.
“The people from the Veda Sect should all be here by now,”
there was something oddly strange about the way Du Wei spoke, as if he were making an effort to sound gentle, but due to habit, it came off even colder.
“It’s time to make a move…”
As he spoke, Du Wei reached out and removed the mask from his face.
In the darkness, the outline of his body suddenly became much clearer, as if something had been covering him before.
Wearing the mask, Du Wei would take on the shell of a shadow, akin to being possessed in another form.
During this period, the shadow couldn’t leave Du Wei unless he took off the mask.
For a moment,
while in the state of Spirit Vision, Du Wei saw the shadow standing in front of him, its eyes full of blood vessels, looking extremely ferocious, with some white threads seeping into them.
This was a mutation.
But Du Wei knew this was the Evil Spirit’s assimilation of the shadow; it couldn’t last too long and was desperately in need of becoming stronger.
The shadow appeared and immediately fixed its gaze on Du Wei. It stood still with arms outstretched as if wanting to act, but didn’t dare to proceed.
To it, Du Wei was the primary target, and everyone else was secondary.
Evil Spirits have no concept of life or death, so the shadow didn’t care about being assimilated by the Evil Spirit. Its obsession with Du Wei never wavered from the beginning.
After hesitating for a moment, under Du Wei’s icy gaze, the shadow slowly merged into the darkness.
It was ready to act on the secondary targets.
But just then, Du Wei pulled out a dagger from his clothing, causing the half of the shadow that had just merged into the shadows to abruptly halt.
“Don’t be hasty. There are many from the Veda Sect this time, and they’re not ordinary people. You might not fare well against them,”
Du Wei spoke in a somewhat unusual tone, touched the dagger, and casually tossed it to the shadow.
In his hands, the dagger wasn’t particularly useful.
Unless he needed to create a Masked Evil Spirit, he wouldn’t consider getting into close combat with an Evil Spirit using a dagger.
But now, the shadow had become the new Masked Evil Spirit, and another mask had been completely destroyed.
Before the shadow was completely off-line, he didn’t need to think about a new tool.
Moreover, the shadow was currently the most “reliable”; giving it the dagger would turn out to be more useful.
The shadow immediately grabbed the handle of the dagger, and its gaze at Du Wei gradually became more dangerous.
But Du Wei pulled out a lighter and pressed it gently.
A bright red flame burned fiercely.
The shadow was immediately forced back.
“Go do what you’re supposed to do,”
Du Wei said to the shadow like a master commanding his fierce dog.
Of course, in reality, it was because he knew the shadow couldn’t kill him.
The bolder the artist, the bolder the move.
Even so, Du Wei lit himself a cigarette with the flame and began to smoke it slowly.
On the spot…
The shadow vanished in an instant…
Meanwhile, Du Wei, cigarette in hand, stared at his right hand, the unusual color in his eyes growing more intense.
After confirming his relationship with Alex, he had sought to enhance his abilities in order to protect those he cherished.
But recent events had piled up, leaving him no time to ponder.
The desire to become stronger lingered persistently in his mind.
Now, he had some relatively complete thoughts.
Du Wei took another drag of his cigarette and looked up at the gloomy night sky.
“This world always gives me a sense of disconnection, whether it’s the Evil Spirit, Demon Spirit, or even the churches, the Veda Sect, Dusk Bell, and the Vanity Sect, they all fail to resonate with me,” he mused.
“The reason humans live is due to instinct and desire.”
“And the reason I live, the instinct to survive, takes up a large part of it.”
“Now, I have a girlfriend and good friends, yet there are dangers in the corners of the world that ordinary people can’t imagine.”
“Even I am deeply ensnared, unable to extricate myself.”
“I loathe struggling, yet I must continue on.”
“I feel that I should build some power of my own, but not everyone is like Tom or Father Tony, sharing a life-and-death bond with me.”
“In a way, Evil Spirits are more reliable than people because they are simple and pure…”
“With my Marking Ability, it seems I could learn from the Veda Sect’s tricks and form a Legion of Evil Spirits.”
In this world, whether it’s the church or other organizations, when dealing with Evil Spirits, they often rely on certain special items, or more advanced methods like hunters.
Only the Veda Sect chose to create Evil Corpses, to create Evil Spirits.
They, unintentionally, had explored a new path, albeit one specifically against humans.
Now, Du Wei had been inspired by them.
…
Elsewhere.
Within Goliath Winery.
Fiona and four other bishops stood in the hall, mumbling sinister and arcane texts in hushed tones.
Goliath Viktor held a silver dagger, chanting in a hoarse whisper as well.
The walls of the hall were covered with mysterious symbols drawn in fresh blood.
On the floor was a huge Hexagram pattern, with a small dish in the middle containing a few strands of hair and a photograph of Du Wei.
A large pit, filled with blood, had been dug at each point of the Hexagram.
In the Veda Sect, these were called blood pools.
Each blood pool contained a corpse, chest burst open, having died in agony.
At that moment, two Cultists in black dragged in a man in his sixties.
The old man was the long-time butler of Goliath Winery and had watched Goliath Viktor grow up.
Now, the old man’s face was painted with grief, a mixture of rage and bewilderment, “You are destroying the glory of the Viktor family with your own hands.”
He roared loudly at Goliath Viktor, seeking an explanation.
What he received instead was an unhesitant slit of his throat…
Blood gushed onto the floor as if a faucet had been opened.
Fiona and the other four bishops whispered, “Praise be to Veda, the sacrifice ceremony is complete.”
In an instant.
All the corpses in the six blood pools shuddered and opened their pale eyes.
