Chapter 3517: Maybe in the Future
"Errr..." Rean looked at CAU03, confused. "Wasn’t that unit locked deep inside the Zoshia Enterprise Building?"
CAU03 was just as puzzled, but he quickly received a report of the robots in there. "Well... It seems like the EVO Unit woke up out of nowhere and rushed outside by simply breaking his way out. He even opened a hole on the side of the building instead of using the normal exit."
Roan could see that, and that wasn’t what he was interested in. "That matters little. What I want to know is what are you guys going to do. That’s your EVO Unit. It was supposed to be something that would one day be part of the robot forces and maybe even gain sentience, right?"
The CAU and SANS Units looked at each other. They obviously knew that, but this was out of their expectations. "Can we ask this new Qwerty to give the EVO Unit back?"
Roan nodded. "Qwerty, take your body you just discarded and send your program back inside. The EVO Unit is a property of the robots, not ours."
Qwerty processed that request. "Request denied. This Unit is also a robot, and also entitled to take this EVO Unit."
He wasn’t lying. The robots were now united by the Qwerty Code, which was the name they gave to it. That meant the EVO Unit was considered something they all possessed and could only decide its destiny together. That’s how they reached the decision to actually use a HAF100 program instead of using their own sentience codes. It was a decision that most of the robots in the city accepted, and they were using the law of the majority for such decisions.
That meant that Qwerty also could say that the EVO Unit was his as much as it was everyone else’s.
Rean felt a headache. "First, stop using this unit this, this unit that. Simply use I or Me, okay? It’s confusing. Second, you are mistaken about the part of the EVO Units being able to evolve with you in there. It was projected to integrate a newborn soul into a sentience code and create a robot capable of comprehending laws and cultivating. Your code has no sentience; thus, it can’t be integrated. That said, it can’t develop like a living being. You are just stealing it."
Qwerty v2.0 analyzed the words he just heard. "First request accepted. I understand. The second request can’t be performed. Unfortunately, I can’t transfer my code back into the previous Unit."
"Why?" CAU and SANS asked together.
"The EVO Unit was made to adapt to the new program it received only once, which is my program, regardless if it is a sentient code or not. It is impossible to remove the code from the EVO Unit. At most, I can copy my code into the previous Unit instead of transferring it, which would create two instances of myself."
Qwerty’s code, program, was truly that, just a code. Different from the sentience codes, his own code right now could be copied as many times as one wanted. There wasn’t even a need to copy, as the base program was already available in the Zoshia Enterprise System. Any robot could take it from there.
"Then you should stay," Roan spoke. "The EVO Unit is something extremely important for the robots. It might be the key for them to one day be able to cultivate and evolve, even comprehend laws. We can’t take their future away."
The CAU and SANS Units nodded. For a moment, they wondered if the twins had actually planned that outcome to take the EVO Unit away. Now, however, it seemed like they didn’t.
Qwerty went silent for a moment before asking. "Shouldn’t I do what I want to do? Those were your words."
Rean scratched the back of his head. Indeed, he did say exactly that, but never had he imagined Qwerty v2.0 would actually steal the EVO Unit from the Zoshia Enterprise Building. He was only talking about bringing the Qwerty body he had rebuilt... which was now lying on the ground right by the EVO Unit’s side. "That would be the case... if you hadn’t taken the EVO Unit away." Seeing how this new Qwerty easily gave up that old Qwerty’s body even made Rean somewhat sad.
Roan pointed out the problem. "You said that as a robot connected to the whole system, you also have the rights to the EVO Unit, right? Well, so do the other robots, and you are taking it away for yourself. That’s the problem here. We can’t bring you with us anymore. You should have told us."
Qwerty once again went silent. His code had a hard time distinguishing the differences. "So I should stay. Is that an order?"
Roan’s mouth twitched. He isn’t here to give any orders. He wasn’t Qwerty’s master. "No orders! In the same way we said you can do what you want, you also have to deal with the consequences of your actions. At the moment, the consequence is that the robots need the EVO Unit, so you can’t follow us anymore."
Rean smiled, having thought of an idea. "Let’s do it like this. Stay here and help the robots research the EVO Units together with the Divine Snow Mountain Sect members. Your code is a HAF100 code anyway, and that was the code they intended to add to the EVO Unit. I believe they will succeed one day in making an EVO Unit without those terrible methods SANS-G01 used. When that time comes, you will be free from your duty, and you can come look for us."
Finally, Qwerty v2.0 didn’t have any trouble understanding it. "That can be accepted. How do I contact you once Im done here?"
Rean shrugged. "Once again, it is all your choice. When that time comes when you get yourself free, you can decide again if you truly wish to come after us or live your own life. Perhaps by that time, you will have given birth to a sentience code. What your program tells you to be the best option today might not be the case tomorrow."
Roan agreed with him. "He is right. However, if, even when that time comes, you still wish to come after us, then it is up to you to find us. The journey will be part of your training."
Kentucky couldn’t help but ask Roan through Divine Sense. ’Wouldn’t it be simpler to use the Werdlem System since it reaches the entire Werdlem Empire and all Universes inside? There are quite a few places in the Werdlem Network we could use to communicate once we are out.’
Roan shook his head, though. ’That would kill the purpose of the journey. Besides, there is no way this new Qwerty will still think the best option is to come after us after all the years he will spend here.’
’If you say so...’ Kentucky didn’t insist after that.
Qwerty processed that new information, nodding in the end. "Task accepted. I will now help the robots in the development of new EVO Units."
Rean smiled, although he felt a little sad that he couldn’t bring this new Qwerty with him. Nonetheless, that was the best choice. "Then we will be waiting for you."
The CAU, SANS, and even the Sect members were relieved that the twins convinced Qwerty to stay and help. Without the EVO Unit, only the data from SANS-G01 might not have been enough to develop a new EVO Unit.
The two groups then bid farewell, and after jumping on Kentucky’s back, the twins group left, with a CAU-E Unit leading them through the Evernight World.
