Chapter 3449: Try Something Else
The elder looked at Saria, who nodded. "I should have mentioned it to you from the start eight days ago. It’s just... you know... I’m a little bit prideful..."
"A little bit?" Rean raised an eyebrow.
"Fine! I’m very prideful, happy?" Saria lost her cool again. Yet, her elder glared at her, which made the girl notice her mistake. "Ahem... Sorry, I misspoke."
"Hahaha!" Rean and Kentucky on the back laughed out loud. Teasing that girl was quite funny. As for Roan, a vein appeared on his head. They were wasting even more of his time.
Saria did her best to not curse them, continuing her explanation. "Any...anyway... That day, when you used your healing skill on me, I didn’t notice any difference at first. However, as time passed, my bloodline seemed to transform little by little. I don’t know what or how, but your healing skill seemed to make it evolve... I think."
Rean finally stopped laughing. "Now, that is interesting. I’ve used my healing skills on my friends and many others in my life. Demon Beasts, Humanoids, Spirits, you name it. I’ve never heard any of them speaking about their bloodlines changing."
At the same time, he talked to Roan, Kentucky, and Sister Orb. ’Could it be because of our Celestial Bloodline? It did increase our affinity towards our elements even further, after all.’
Roan considered that possibility. ’We can’t discard that idea.’
Kentucky also added another piece. ’Besides, her elf bloodline has an innate ability towards light and healing capabilities, doesn’t it? Even her healing skill relies a lot on her bloodline.’
[Rean’s Celestial Bloodline now also plays a part in Rean’s healing abilities,] Sister Orb commented. [Well, all his Light Element Abilities benefit from his Celestial Bloodline, actually. It wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibilities for him to have influenced Saria’s bloodline somehow.]
Let’s not forget that the Celestial Bloodline was an achievement the twins only acquired recently. Perhaps such a thing would have happened way before if the bloodline had appeared back in Lisan. Rean knew and interacted with many angels back then, for example.
Saria and Glorandal expected that answer already. "We know. If something like that had happened before in our race, we would have records about it. That’s why we came after you."
Rean raised his palm, stopping them there. "What are you asking me? To go to the Elf Race and start using my healing skill on all the elves? Do you have any idea how long such a thing would take? Let’s be honest; you guys probably have billions, if not trillions, of members."
"Elves aren’t exactly a race that reproduces fast," Glorandel commented. "Our lifespans are already enormous, even if we don’t cultivate at all. We can easily surpass two thousand years without a single iota of cultivation. We are different from humans like you. Please, don’t think I’m looking down on your human race. I only want to say that this fact makes us much less likely to start families."
"Well, he is right that we still have a few billion in our elf territory," Saria also helped. "Our race has existed for a very long time, after all. But we still aren’t anywhere comparable to you humans, who can easily surpass the quadrillions in just a single continent."
Glorandel thought a little bit. "Even if we take all the elves in all continents, not just the ones from where Saria and I came from, perhaps we do reach the trillion mark, but I wouldn’t be so certain."
Rean shrugged. "Even if it was a single billion, I would still not be able to help. It would take way, way too long to use my skill in every single one of them. Besides, we still don’t know if it was truly my healing skill that caused that change. Guys, evolution is a real thing. Who knows? Perhaps Saria is the very first member of your race that just so happened to evolve further. You could even call her a High-Elf or something like that."
Glorandel got up. "Then please try it on me. I was tasked to have you use your healing skills on my body at all costs to confirm that same theory. Yes, we are aware that you might actually not be related to that. So, please, could you at least clear that doubt? If nothing happens in the end, then we will know that you were unrelated to it, and we won’t bother you anymore."
Roan snorted at that moment. "Hmph! Do you take us for idiots? Sure, Rick will use his skill on you, and we will wait to see the results. Then, if the evolution doesn’t happen?"
"What do you mean?" Glorandel and Saria asked together, puzzled.
Roan continued. "Can’t you see it? Would your higher-ups simply believe that Rick was not related to the change? Or instead, would they believe that Rick purposely held back so you would leave him alone? Now that they know about Saria and her evolution, there is no way they would simply give up that easily. They will hold onto that last, thin strand of hope that perhaps Rick didn’t do the same thing to Glorandel as he did to Saria."
"This..." Neither Saria nor Glorandel could refute Roan’s words. That was a change directly related to the entire race as a whole. Saria truly surpassed them all. Her bloodline was just too good to ignore.
Rean then noticed Saria’s hand trembling again, albeit just slightly. Now, however, he knows exactly what she was afraid of. ’I see... the girl is afraid of becoming a breeding machine. If I can’t help other elves turn out like her, her bloodline will be the only option remaining. The elves will have her impregnated nonstop until the end of her life.’
Roan and Kentucky heard Rean’s comment through their connection together with Sister Orb.
’Hmph!’ Roan still didn’t give a damn, though. ’And what does that have to do with us? No, even better. If she becomes their breeding machine, then they will just leave us alone if the bloodline advancement passes to her offspring. That’s the best option, so let’s leave it alone and refuse them.’
Rean fell into a dilemma. If he helps, he will be the one locked for a while. If he doesn’t, it will be Saria instead. They don’t really know each other that well, but it wasn’t like he approved the elves’ idea. "Is the idea of becoming a breeding machine really that bad? That also means your race will do its best to protect you and guarantee you reach the Space-Time Realm one day so you won’t die." Rean suddenly asked the two elves directly. Yes, he used the ’breeding machine’ words without holding back.
Both Saria and Glorandel were taken aback. Glorandel was the first one to recover, and he didn’t try to hide it. "Yes, the idea is to use her as a breeding... elf." Although he didn’t use ’machine’ in the name.
Saria looked at Rean, almost pleading with her eyes. It was obvious even the idea of her entire race working for her sake didn’t feel very good. In the end, Rean simply couldn’t leave it at that. But that didn’t mean he would go out and start helping billions of elves evolve. For that, he had an idea. "Okay, I know what to do. But first, let’s see if my healing skills were truly the reason for the evolution. Saria, if it turns out I wasn’t the reason, then I truly can’t do anything else."
