Death... and me

Chapter 3429: The Eventual End

Chapter 3429: The Eventual End

"You!" The leader of the scammers looked at Forvani and the other outsiders in anger. As someone who was actively disrupting the Yang Energy in the surroundings, he was absolutely sure someone did the same thing to him.

Yet, everyone seemed puzzled. "What? Don’t you want to pay?"

The leader felt a chill on his back, looking upwards. For some reason, he felt like the lightning was accumulating above him. "Hmph! Who said I don’t want to pay?"

In this challenge, there was only one winner, so they all had to pay Forvani, including those who had nothing to do with the scammers. Twenty-three Fire Element users, each one bet 50 points. Just like that, Forvani gained 1100 points, not counting his own 50 points he put in the bet.

Forvani couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "Hahaha! Thank you for your patronage. So, does anyone want to challenge me again? I can go much further and do much better than that!" He didn’t know how Rean helped him, but he saw how the guy he was about to lose to lost control. With Rean there, he could win every single round.

Yet, at that very moment, Rean’s Divine Sense message reached him. ’You are pretty dumb, aren’t you?’

’What?!’ Forvani looked back at Rean, who seemed to have a disappointed expression. ’What do you mean?’

Rean got up, not interested in that anymore. He already got paid for the first time, so that was better than nothing. ’You want to gain more points, so after you win on what seemed to be a very close match, what do you say? You say you can do much better than that... Sigh... look at the Fire Element users around you.’

’This...’ Only then Forvani noticed his mistake. Sure enough, none of the people who lost to him seemed the least bit interested in challenging him for his points now. Not only that, Forvani caught the attention of quite a few eyes from other participants who watched the bet with their Divine Senses. If no one wanted to bet against him... how would he accumulate enough points to buy a Sect Pass?

Rean put the chair and tea away, turning around to leave. ’You obviously grew up in an environment where everything went according to what you wanted. Maybe you are the son of a clan head? Anyway, that doesn’t matter. Take this as a lesson. Besides, it is not guaranteed you won’t join the sect yet. With those extra 1100 points, you can find some other bets where your Fire Element Control has nothing to do with it. Good luck.’

"Wait!" Forvani ran to Rean’s side, ignoring the scammers and the other participants of that bet. "That was my bad. You have to help me again!"

Rean smiled while shrugging. "Help? I didn’t help anyone. What are you talking about?" As if Rean would admit that.

Rean and Roan noticed the real meaning behind this kind of test. It was all about your adaptability. The sect followed the rules the participants set for their bets and challenges, but there was nothing saying one couldn’t cheat. As long as you could accumulate the points, who cares what method you used? Just make sure that if you break any of the rules, no one knows you did it.

Cunningness... that might as well be the real name of this test.

In the end, Rean left Forvani behind, who could only accept he had made a big mistake. Alright, it wasn’t that simple. Forvani insisted several times for almost an hour; it’s just that it was all meaningless. "So be it! I’ll show you I can make it through on my own!"

Rean waved his hand. "Absolutely. I’m cheering for you."

Later on, Rean joined Roan, Kentucky, and Rifindio, who were watching Zangeshu and Ridia. Things played as the twins imagined, with Zangeshu winning one or another of those bets with other formation masters, ultimately reaching enough points to buy a pass for himself and Ridia.

Then they went through the stalls until they found one that had requirements they could pass. For Ridia, it was one directed to Demon Plants, which the requirement she fulfilled quite easily due to her Divine Bloodline.

Zangeshu was still Zangeshu, so he obviously selected one towards Formations. Since Zangeshu was still in the Transition Realm, the requirements for him were obviously easier than those for Void Tempering Realm experts. Too bad Rean considered Zangeshu a better formations master than most he had seen at that level. Zangeshu also completed the requirements and bought his Sect Pass without any issues.

They looked at the timer, and there were still slightly over 58 hours of the test. By now, around a thousand participants got their necessary points and passed it as well. One of them, as one can imagine, was Saria, the elf.

Saria walked around, watching the various bets happening, until she ended where Rean’s group was resting. Other than Ridia, who spent her time doing the same thing as Saria, the rest of Rean’s group didn’t seem interested in what was happening there.

"Shouldn’t you pay more attention to everyone?" Saria asked Rean, which was surprising since Rean thought she didn’t want him anywhere near her.

"Uh? Talking to me?" Rean asked with an innocent expression. "I thought you didn’t want to see my face anymore."

Saria narrowed her eyes. "I just got bored as well. Is that a problem? Anyway, you should pay attention to those who passed the test. The Divine Snow Mountain Sect isn’t a friendly house where everyone sings together around the bonfire. Once you join it, the competition is fierce for resources, so you should pay attention to your future fellow disciples. They might just be your worst enemies."

Rean faintly smiled, seemingly at ease. "Oh, I’m watching everyone with my Divine Sense, don’t worry." It was a lie. Rean’s mind was nowhere in that field. He and Zangeshu just spent their time talking about Formation Runes.

Saria went silent for a moment. Yet, she didn’t leave. It was as if she wanted to say something. "You... do you see anything wrong with... no, forget it."

Rean could guess what she wanted to know, though. "Flaws in your manipulation of light element?"

Saria looked away, nodding slightly. It took a lot for her to ask that with her pride.

Too bad Rean refused. "Sorry, but I know nothing about your cultivation method. I only experienced your healing skill and your bloodline a moment ago. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be of much help with such a lack of information."

"I see..." Saria sighed and wondered if she should show it to Rean. Too bad she still couldn’t go that far. At least, not for now. "Forget I asked anything." Then, she left again.

Roan looked at that, then at Rean. "You better not be thinking of bringing more trouble to our plate."

"Don’t worry," Rean shook his head. "I have no intention of doing it. That’s why I said that. Truth be told, I have noticed several points where she could improve, but that would require some extra time to explain and demonstrate. I don’t want to do that now."

"And you better not want to do that in the near future either," Roan added.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Rean said as he lay down. "Let’s just wait for this thing to be over."

Time passed, and at some point, Ridia came back, already bored of seeing all those bets or whatever. Kentucky had to spend quite some energy to keep the little girl entertained after that. Eventually, the time of 80 hours was over, and as soon as the timer reached zero, all the remaining tokens crumbled at the same time. Those who didn’t buy a pass until now had failed.
