Death... and me

Chapter 3420: Not The Result He Expected

Chapter 3420: Not The Result He Expected

Rean had to look for a while as everyone was busy with their own personal challenges and bets. It was then that he found a group of demon beasts, spirits, and humanoids that felt very familiar to him. Not because he had seen them before but because they all seemed able to control Light Element.

"What is this about?" Rean joined to the side, asking.

"Oh, I saw you beating that guy with Energy Reserves earlier. Do you happen to have Light Element Affinity? I can more or less feel it in your body." A Demon Beast in humanoid form asked with a smile.

Rean nodded. "That I do. That’s why I came here as I can feel you all seem to be similar to me in that regard."

"Great! I’m Tugar. Do you want to take part?" Tugar quickly attempted to bring Rean over.

"I don’t even know what it is about yet..." Rean didn’t accept straight away, though.

Before anyone could explain to Rean, an elder arrived, waving his hand and bringing hundreds of small mouse-like animals out of his Pocket Dimensional Realm. From the conversation, it seemed like they were called Rolidoli. "Is this enough?"

Everyone nodded. "Yes."

The guy who talked to Rean earlier continued. "This challenge is very simple. Rolidolis are attracted to Light Element. Everyone here can control Light Element, so we decided to simply try it out to decide who is the best. We will all use our Light Element to attract the Rolidolis and bet our points on it. We agreed that we would have exactly twenty seconds to do it."

Rean immediately felt like he would be bullying these guys if he took part in this. But then again, he wasn’t here to make friends, and this was pretty much a guaranteed victory. "Is this really fine? I mean, there are several cultivation levels in this group. Those with higher cultivation will obviously be able to gather more Light Element and win."

The elder there shook his head. "Cultivation doesn’t matter. Rolidolis are just simply animals with small bodies. They don’t have use for a lot of Light Element. What they care about is the purity. So, even if you have the smallest cultivation, as long as your Light Element is purer, you can definitely attract more of them than anyone else."

Rean finally understood, finding those Rolidolis quite interesting. "Well... then that’s fine. How are we doing this?"

A spirit spoke from there. "How about this? There are thirty-seven of us here, but we don’t want all to lose while just one person wins. So, let’s make small bets and the winner is always eliminated. Does anyone here have less than five hundred points?"

Everyone shook their heads. Only those who arrived very late and showed very poor performance seemed to have acquired less than 500 in the previous test.

"Great!" The Spirit continued. "Let’s make it five rounds and bet 100 points on each. That means we will have five winners. Each winner will still take more than 3000 points, so I don’t think anyone here has a reason to complain. Besides, even if you lose all five rounds in the end, nothing stops you from trying to accumulate more points after this. There are still 78 hours and something, after all."

"Then I would like to add another rule," Tugar, who had talked to Rean a moment earlier, spoke. "Once you take part in this bet, you can’t back out until all five rounds are over. After all, what if some of you give up because you think you can’t win? Then only the first winner will take the bigger cut while the next four will not be as lucky. Seems unfair."

The elder warned everyone when he heard that. "Be aware that although the sect won’t intervene with the methods you chose to gain points from each other, we will abide by the rules you set. If someone tries to break the rules... hehe."

Everyone remembered what happened with the last guy who broke those rules...

"I accept!" Rean had no reason to refuse.

"Me too!" The spirit earlier spoke with confidence.

"Count me in," a woman with pointy ears joined as well.

Soon, all those thirty-seven experts accepted those rules.

Looking at the Rolidolis, Rean understood why they selected this method instead of simply using some measurement equipment. The purity of Light Element could be controlled to a certain extent, just like its concentration. If you worked on a very small area, you could use all your efforts to make your Light Element purer in there. That would open a window for various different strategies.

You could try to bring a lot at once, but that also meant your Light Element wouldn’t be as purer due to your lack of control. That could cause you to get nothing in the end because others focused on small areas instead. The opposite could also happen. You could concentrate on a small area, but someone who tried a bigger area might take more if the other participants failed to focus on all Rolidolis. Of course, you could also try to balance both methods and see what happens.

Seeing that they all agreed on it, the elder was asked to be the judge, which he accepted. "Very well. Five rounds, 100 points each, each winner is excluded from the rest of the rounds, and the losers can’t give up until the end. Does that sound right?"

"Yes," everyone spoke. "We will count on you, elder."

The elder nodded and used his Divine Energy to gather the Rolidolis in a circle. After that, he positioned the participants around it at the exact same distance from the Rolidolis. "Twenty seconds, you can start... now!"

Immediately, everyone’s bodies burst with Light Element, including Rean’s.

Well, that was a test tailor-made for Rean... or so he thought. Things didn’t turn out as he expect twenty seconds later.

"First winner, Saria Qinhana. You get 3700 points and are now excluded from this challenge."

"Thank you, elder," Saria released the Rolidolis she gathered, a little bit over half of the Rolidolis present at the start. She looked at her token, now with over 4000 points, smiling at it as she distanced herself.

The rest of the Rolidolis were with Rean, who looked at the woman with wide-open eyes. ’I lost in a Light Element Challenge...?’
