Chapter 873: Time for some training
Cassian walked out of the library, huffing. His red eyes were filled with anger. Yet, he took a deep breath and composed himself.
“I can’t get riled up because of a young person who isn’t even fifty yet.”
His gaze swept across the surroundings, taking in every single detail. A flicker of old memories danced in his eyes, remnants of the time he had spent in this very place.
“We both started here, didn’t we?”
A laugh escaped his lips, a mirthless, cold, detached, chilling sound. That sounded very familiar to Kyle, who had followed after him secretly after getting curious about him. It reminded him of those obsidian eyes that always stared at him with emptiness.
Cassian’s lips twisted into a smile, yet his eyes remained cold. He felt desperate, so much so that he wanted to end everything and everyone, just to kill the person who had made him the way he was today.
“Yet, how ironic. How ironic…”
He muttered under his breath, staring into empty air as if looking at a faraway place.
“We began here. But one has soared to the top, reached the seat that is highest of all, while the other is at the bottom again.”
Cassian disappeared. Kyle stared at the empty space where he had been for a long moment before turning and re-entering the library. The boy wearing spectacles noticed his return, but this time he ignored Kyle.
However, the young boy caught the faint words the hooded man had spoken as he picked up another book on natural laws.
“Don’t talk about irony. Just reach the top and kick the other down from the top. The fall hurts most when you’re dropped from the highest position available.”
Kyle lost himself in the book once again, his brow furrowed in concentration. The young boy floating behind him watched his back for a long moment before speaking.
“My name is Zehan. I believe I didn’t introduce myself, so I’m doing that now.”
Kyle’s eyes lifted from the book as he acknowledged the introduction.
“You already know. But I am Kyle.”
Silence descended once more as Kyle, captivated by the towering bookshelves, wandered through the vast expanse. He couldn’t access many of them due to the barriers surrounding them, but what he could were enough for now.
He even learned a new natural law.
It was the natural law of isolation, similar yet different to the natural law of space.
Kyle only left the library when it was time for him to perform the clan duties. He had to go fight the corrupted beasts. That was the only thing he needed to do for now as one of the members of the clan.
He stretched his body, the hood of his hoodie slipping off his head to reveal his dark hair and ordinary yet deep eyes.
He had tweaked the teardrop symbol he engraved at the back of his neck, making it more powerful to hide his true appearance after reading a lot of advanced books on arrays he discovered in the library.
“Time for some training.”
He murmured, his lips curling upward.
“Too much reading has made my body sluggish. I need to move.”
He no longer needed anyone to guide him. He already knew everything one needed to know about the Celestial realm.
Bending over slightly, his eyes blazing, he suddenly vanished. Of course, he didn’t use instant teleportation; he was simply moving at a speed that was double what someone of equal strength could achieve.
A streak of icy glow was left in his wake as he swiftly moved through the houses and Celestials moving around inside the clan.
Heads turned as the Celestials he passed felt a sudden icy chill. One man narrowed his eyes, watching the fading figure.
“Who was that?”
A nearby Celestial answered.
“The newcomer! Don’t you recognize that hooded figure and dark hair? He’s the one who bested Gvette in his own game.”
The first man’s eyes widened. But then he let out a boisterous laugh as he glanced in the direction Kyle had vanished.
“He’s finally out of the library. Clan Leader was angry because of him a week ago. He put his name in all the battles this month as his missions. Do you think he’ll win?”
The Celestial beside him scoffed.
“Win? That’s a long shot. He has to survive first. Those battles are against other clans, mostly to settle claims on some dungeons. Do you think his opponents will let him win? He just arrived in this realm and has already rubbed the Clan Leader the wrong way.”
He lowered his voice.
“We all know Ares is very petty.”
A collective grimace swept through the crowd as they heard his words. They were already lighting a candle for the newcomer.
News always traveled like wildfire in the clan, thanks to its close-knit community.
And Kyle was already famous, known for his victory against Gvette and impressive winning streak in many games in the city, earning him countless natural crystals.
So when Ares, their clan leader, put his name on multiple difficult missions, they knew exactly who the newcomer was.
Unaware that Ares had plotted against him just because he rejected the man’s offer to become his disciple, Kyle left the clan city, which was shrouded in a golden barrier.
His calm eyes briefly flickered toward the towering green mountains outside the city. The same mountains that were occupied by the old Celestials who had shredded a part of his senses when he arrived in the clan.
He tilted his head.
“How much stronger do I need to become to get a place in one of the mountains? A fourth stage Celestial?”
A chuckle escaped his lips.
“No, I don’t need a small place. I will kick them all out and take the entire place for myself. That’s more like me.”
His gaze swept through the place, taking in everything he could see. The old people on the tall mountains shuddered, a feeling of unease washing over them. But before the old Celestials could pinpoint the source of this disturbance, he had vanished.
