Chapter 872: Why not join me?
Kyle let out a sigh. It seemed Ares wouldn’t believe him, even if he presented proof that he wasn’t just flipping through pages. He nodded and turned to the young boy who straightened up under his gaze.
“I’ve almost read everything one needs to know about the Celestial realm. I know the rulers’ influence here and how this place is divided into multiple factions. But can you tell me why there are only Celestials in this place? I believe even Celestials give birth.”
His words froze the trio. So, he was truly reading at such a terrifying speed?
Ares stared at him, shocked. Cassian’s lips twitched upwards. Now he was even more determined to recruit this young man.
The boy before him adjusted his spectacles and cleared his throat. He wasn’t young, he just appeared that way due to a natural law he had learned. So, he understood where Kyle’s question came from.
“You want to know what happens to those born in this realm, because there’s no way all of them are born Celestials, right?”
Kyle nodded and he continued.
“It’s simple. Celestials rarely have children. The birth rate here is low. After all, they are the strongest beings, making it difficult for them to conceive easily. Also, even before birth, it’s clear if a kid will be born Celestial. If they are, good, they stay here. If not, they are sent to the lower universes until they reach the Celestial realm on their own.”
A deep frown creased Kyle’s brows. He didn’t like this practice. It seemed cruel to send newborn children so far away just because they were born weak.
“Don’t their parents help them? Who established this rule? I know this realm is more powerful than the lower universes, so ordinary people can’t survive here. But can’t the parents shield their children with barriers to keep them here? Since the kids can grow stronger more easily in this environment.”
Ares chuckled, a low rumble in his chest.
“You actually sound naive asking that. You think no one has tried what you suggested? Not all Celestials are heartless. Many loved their kids, even if they were born ordinary.”
He waved his hand, and a book flew from the distance before landing in Kyle’s hand.
“Read this. You will get your answer.”
Kyle glanced at him, wondering who had instructed him a while back to ask the young boy questions instead of flipping pages.
With a nod, he flipped through the book. A few seconds later, his eyebrow raised. So, the rule that only Celestials can stay here wasn’t set by the rulers or anyone else?
The Celestial realm automatically rejects anyone below the Celestial rank. Even if a Celestial wants to keep someone below the Celestial rank here, they can’t for more than a day or two, even with all their efforts.
Therefore, it was better to send their child away to a safe place on their own instead of watching their child suddenly vanish to an unknown place due to the realm.
“I see, that’s the reason…”
He muttered. Ares finally believed that he could read everything at such a fast pace. The boy floating before Kyle talked next.
“You don’t need to worry about this matter. There are old Celestials here who oversee those children and, at the request of their parents and elders, help them cross the final boundary of the Celestial realm.”
Kyle shut the book in his hand.
“And those old Celestials take natural crystals in return for their service?”
The boy nodded and returned the book in his hand to its place on the shelf, where Ares had taken it from. Kyle turned and picked up another book. This time, the book he chose wasn’t about the Celestial realm. Instead, it was about natural laws.
Ares stared at him, speechless.
“You’re reading again? I thought you would be finished after knowing everything about the Celestial realm. You are a member of my clan now. Didn’t Silver tell you that you have a duty to fight the corrupted beasts?”
Kyle gazed at the bookshelves around him.
“Clan leader, there are many books here. It would be a shame to leave so soon. As for my duty to the clan, I’ll take care of it in due time. No need to worry. After all, it’s just a matter of dealing with beasts, right?”
Ares, his face a mask of irritation, clicked his tongue and vanished from the library.
How could someone be so boring? He had wasted a lot of time here, and this brat had yielded no useful information. To top it off, he had even refused to be his disciple!
’Just you wait! I’m going to put your name on the clan missions list, and that will teach you a lesson! A bit of suffering is needed to make him accustomed to this place!’
After he left, silence returned to the space, broken only by the sound of pages turning.
Kyle was absorbing knowledge with every passing moment. Due to the silence, even the young boy began reading again.
He shifted uneasily when Cassian suddenly arrived beside him, floating close to him.
He was sure those crimson eyes were secretly watching his every move.
A calm voice whispered beside him.
“Why not join me? This clan won’t offer the resources you need to truly grow. But if you come with me, you will become stronger. If you ever want to stand against Nathaniel, staying here won’t make that possible.”
Kyle’s gaze drifted toward him, but the latter’s eyes remained fixed on the book in his hand. Cassian flipped a page, the rustle of paper the only sound in the silence.
“Don’t worry, no one can hear us.”
His hand stilled in surprise when he heard the hooded man’s next words.
“I know. I noticed the energy flow change when you put a barrier around us.”
Cassian chuckled. This man was weaker than him in terms of overall strength, but he could still sense when he used his energy. Well, he already knew he wasn’t ordinary.
“So, what’s your answer?”
Kyle noticed the forced smile on the man’s face. It had been a while since he had seen such a blatant act of insincerity.
“Thanks, but I have to decline. It’s not Nathaniel I want to stand against. I do dislike him, but he is someone else’s target.”
He paused, weighing his words carefully.
“However, if you’re still around when I feel like I can no longer grow in this clan, I might consider joining you for a while. Since I’m new to this realm, I need a guide.”
Cassian’s grip on the book in his hand tightened. If not for his self-restraint, he would have already reduced it to dust. Who did this bastard think he was? He was just someone Cassian wanted to use! How dare he think he would wait around for him like a servant and tour him around the realm?
Kyle’s eyes crinkled at the sight.
’I had a feeling this person wasn’t new to this realm, and I think I was right. I wonder what his history with Nathaniel is. It seems that man had stirred the ire of many people.’
