ATTICUS’S ODYSSEY: REINCARNATED INTO A PLAYGROUND
Chapter 1085 - 1085: Breakthrough [Ko-Fi Bonus Chapter]Atticus’s gaze flashed as he took in everything calmly. The first thing he noticed were the notes underneath them. It was as if the system was trying to caution him.
‘Looks like this negation energy is more dangerous than I thought.’
That was the only reason that came to his head. For it to warn him despite his power meant that this energy had the power to hurt him.
Atticus then focused on the arts themselves. The first two… he was familiar with. He had dealt with them firsthand when he fought Karn at the Nexus event.
But the last three were surprising. Shocking, even.
Atticus’s eyes nearly bulged out when he saw the final two:
Null Converter.
Absolute Negation.
Their abilities could only be described with one word: broken.
He exhaled heavily before releasing a sharp sigh.
‘Of course they’re locked.’
The locked abilities were truly beginning to get to him.
‘The core fused with me, right? So I should have become one with it. Why lock anything at all?’
He couldn’t understand it, and the lack of answers only added to his irritation. It felt like dangling a meal in front of a starving man only to snatch it away at the last second.
Still frowning, Atticus pushed the annoyance aside and got to work. He tested the abilities that were available, making sure he understood each one fully.
Nullification Field and Void Rend were straightforward, simple to execute, but terrifying in effect.
But Void Step was trickier. It took time to grasp the nuances. Phasing out of the world’s mana structure wasn’t something that came naturally.
But after a few trials, his instincts began adjusting. Eventually, his presence could flicker out like a ghost, undetectable. He even tried it on the training room robots and was very satisfied with the results.
When he was satisfied with his progress, Atticus checked the time.
‘Ah shit, it’s time already.’
Without wasting another second, he vanished, reappearing just outside the Ravenstein mansion. He slipped in quietly and made his way down into the basement, moving quickly through the corridors.
‘This should be the last session.’
Atticus’s training with Avalon had gone far better than he’d expected over the past two weeks. The concept was simple enough: for Avalon to reach the Paragon rank, he had to resonate with the fire molecules until they recognized him as one of their own, until he became them.
To accelerate the process, Atticus did something few others could: he altered the frequency of the molecules around Avalon to match Avalon’s own frequency. This synced the two briefly, allowing Avalon to feel them.
Then, slowly, he would return the molecules back to their original state, giving Avalon the full experience of syncing and unsyncing, allowing his body and mind to adjust over time and learn.
Two weeks of this and Atticus could feel it, Avalon was right on the edge.
And Avalon knew it too.
Which was why, as Atticus entered the training room, he found his father already waiting with a wide grin plastered on his face.
“What took you so long?” Avalon called out.
Atticus smiled faintly. “Got lost in training.”
He couldn’t help but feel a surge of happiness inside him. Avalon’s demeanor now compared to that first day in this room was staggering.
Avalon shook his head, his grin not fading. “Of course you did.” Then his eyes narrowed slightly. “I swear… your appearance changes every time I see you.”
Atticus reached him and chuckled. “You’re exaggerating, Dad. Besides, I still look good, don’t I?”
He ignored the scoff that echoed in the back of his mind. Ozeroth.
Avalon laughed. “I can’t deny that. My genes are incredible!”
Atticus rolled his eyes. “Are you ready? Today might be the last day.”
Avalon clenched his fist, the flames in his eyes dancing. Then he grinned and nodded, his expression turning serious.
“I’m ready.”
At Avalon’s words, Atticus gave a small nod and gestured to the floor.
Without hesitation, Avalon sat down, spine straight, eyes shut, steadying his nerves and focusing inward.
Atticus calmly adjusted the temperature of the room, bringing it to Avalon’s optimal resonance point. The air grew hot.
Avalon began the process, slowly trying to form a connection with the fire molecules swirling invisibly around him.
They slipped into the familiar rhythm.
Atticus raised his hand, and the fire molecules responded instantly, their frequency shifting. Gently, he bent them to align with Avalon’s unique resonance, syncing their rhythm with his father’s.
The effect was immediate.
Avalon’s body glowed a deep, searing red, like molten metal fresh from the forge. His breathing slowed as he focused.
Then, Atticus reversed the change.
The molecules began reverting, turning back to their natural state, slipping out of sync.
And just like before, Avalon felt that same sensation, like chasing a massive, roaring truck speeding ahead of him, always just out of reach.
But this time, it was different.
The gap was closer. The distance smaller. And as the process progressed, Avalon didn’t let it go. He adjusted, sharpened his control, and grabbed the truck.
The effect was instantaneous.
The fire molecules in the entire training chamber froze, and then burned brighter. Their heat intensified, rising to levels where they became visible, like glowing embers of pure energy swirling in the air.
A wide smile appeared across Atticus’s face.
He stepped back instantly just as Avalon began floating upward, his body radiating an intense orange light.
The fire molecules reacted to him like a starving pack finding their source, rushing toward him like a black hole had opened.
They spun around him, faster and faster, forming a blazing vortex, an endless storm of fire.
Atticus felt the temperature spike sharply. The entire room trembled from the force. The protective runes flickered violently, struggling to contain the force, teetering on the edge of breaking.
‘The room won’t hold.’
Atticus’s eyes narrowed.
They were directly beneath the mansion. If the runes failed, the explosion would take the entire structure with it.
‘I can’t let that happen.’
