….
“Who’s eavesdropping there?” Reine’s eyes turned sharp as he looked toward a dark corner of the room.
Ever since he entered the room, he had sensed a faint presence there. At first, he thought it might be some sort of secret guard from the Habus family.
But after giving it some thought, he realized that was unlikely.
Because in the fierce battles of the past two days, he had not seen any appearances of these so-called ‘Shadow Guards’.
That meant, even if there were any, their numbers would be extremely limited and they should be closely guarding the severely injured Count Habbs.
“Heh, such keen perception. Indeed, Grant’s death by your hand was no fluke.”
A voice sounded within the room.
However, this voice seemed to be coming from all around, echoing as if from several corners at once, making it impossible to pinpoint the speaker’s location.
Grant?
Reine immediately realized the origin of this person.
He had thought the person belonged to the Black Flame Cult.
But now it seemed not; the person was sent by the Imperial City Axon Auction House Headquarters, or possibly, a friend of “Ice Messenger” Grant.
“Are you from the Imperial City Axon Auction House Headquarters?” Reine asked in a deep voice.
“Dead or not, it has little to do with a dead man. Give me the Ancient Giant Troll fang willingly, and I’ll grant you a comfortable death.”
“Courting death!”
Perhaps influenced by the mark, a surge of anger spontaneously rose in Reine when faced with this threat.
A dangerous aura began to spread from Reine.
“Heh, courting death? Then let you taste some bitterness first,” Elihu said, narrowing his eyes.
He had read the reports, knowing that Reine had dispatched Grant in three moves, but he prided himself that he could do the same with a surprise attack.
His exotic-level Dagger had the remarkable effect of breaking through various elemental shields.
After viewing Reine’s experiences, Elihu was certain his judgment was correct; the weapon in Reine’s hand should be just as special as his own.
It was precisely because of their element of surprise that Reine could kill Grant in three moves.
“Swoosh!”
A dagger-like throwing weapon shot out from the corner at lightning speed toward Reine.
Due to the close distance and the swiftness of the weapon, Reine barely had any room to dodge.
However, Elihu’s originally smiling face stiffened!
He saw Reine not trying to dodge but instead began to spin at high speed like a top, creating a whirlwind in the room with a piercing howl.
Evidently, Elihu had not expected Reine to face his throwing weapon without trying to dodge, opting instead to immediately counterattack.
Suddenly, a dense swarm of shuriken forced him to reveal himself.
“Clink clink clang!”
A thin man wearing a hood and dark leather armor, holding dual Daggers in the shadows, swiftly deflected more than a dozen incoming shuriken with extremely sharp movements.
“Caught you, little rat!”
No sooner had he spoken,
than Elihu felt a surge of alarm and a gust of wind on his face as a dark shadow plunged down from above, ferociously cleaving at him.
In the blink of an eye, Elihu crossed his Daggers above his head, trying to block Reine’s slash.
“Clang!!!”
A grating clash of metal rang out, but the next second, he screamed in pain!
He saw his head split by a sword down the middle. Had he not instinctively ducked his head at the critical moment, it would have been cleaved in two!
What baffled Elihu was what he had just seen!
Reine’s greatsword in his hand was actually bent!
Moreover, not just slightly bent, but close to a ninety-degree angle.
Critically wounded in one move, Elihu knew he had to fight for his life today, or he might not leave this place.
In an instant, his expression turned fierce as he moved toward Reine instead of away, stabbing dozens of times with both hands, creating a thick cluster of Dagger shadows aiming at all of Reine’s vital points.
“Clang! Clang! Clang!”
After just one stab, Elihu felt something was wrong. His exotic-level Daggers, after piercing the opponent’s armor, couldn’t go any further, and the resistance was immense.
“Is that all?” Reine sneered.
“Swoosh swoosh swoosh!”
In a flash, Elihu’s body was riddled with dozens of blood holes, caused by the quickly morphing blade ‘Finger Tiger’ in Reine’s hand.
Suddenly, Elihu’s eyes widened as his body trembled uncontrollably.
“Splat!”
Instantly, four more blood holes appeared on his forehead, and he died on the spot.
Reine had used only two moves, ‘Sword Blade Storm’ and ‘Heavy Punch Combo’.
One less move than “Ice Messenger” Grant.
At this moment, the guards, hearing the commotion, rushed into the room.
Seeing the debris strewn across the room, the densely packed shuriken on the walls, and the skinny man in leather armor held in Reine’s hands with a twisted neck, they were shocked into stillness.
“Lord Reine, you…” the guards stared, dumbfounded at the scene.
“I’m fine. Clean this up,” Reine instructed.
“As you command, Lord Reine.”
At that moment, Cleya hurried over. Seeing the scene, she said, “Reine, are you alright? Was it the Black Flame Cult?”
“Not the cult,” Reine shook his head.
“It’s a little trouble of my own, Cleya. I may need to return to Mingster first.”
