2781 Creating A Disguise
Having read the hundred-page book, Lin Mu had managed to understand several of the commonly spoken words of the Osteri Divine Script. He merely needed to compare the words in Dao Script, align them with the Osteri Divine Script, and decipher their meanings.
The key difference was that the Osteri Divine Script was actually simpler than the Dao Script. It used more words to convey a sentence compared to Dao Script, which could sometimes condense entire sentences into a single character.
"What are you going to do?" Daoist Chu asked.
"I'll simply be talking to them," Lin Mu replied.
"With the Osteri Divine Script?" Daoist Chu raised his brows.
"I reckon with the number of books here, I should be able to learn a decent amount," Lin Mu answered. "And if there's a dictionary here, I might even be able to learn it entirely."
"Learning it all? Only you would attempt something like that in such a short time," Daoist Chu chuckled.
"Well, I'll try at least. I don't think I'll get the exact pronunciation correct just yet. I'll need more practice in person for that," Lin Mu admitted as he picked up the next book.
One by one, he went through the books, memorizing them as best as he could. As an immortal, his ability to retain information was impeccable—a common trait among immortals. However, the real challenge lay in recalling and applying the knowledge effectively, something Lin Mu excelled at.
Thankfully, the Osteri Divine Script was far easier to learn than the Dao Script, allowing Lin Mu to progress at an astonishing rate. Within just five days, he had finished reading all the books that Ashy had provided, including three volumes of encyclopedias and a dictionary.
By the end of their second week, Lin Mu was finally ready to head out.
"I think I'm done," Lin Mu announced. Then, with a confident smirk, he added, "Or rather, 'Puto me fieri,'" seamlessly switching to the Osteri Divine Script.
"Oh my," Daoist Chu remarked, surprised. "You sound almost exactly like them."
"Hmm, I should be able to refine my accent once I hear native speakers in conversation," Lin Mu mused. "But before I head out, there's one more thing to do."
"And what's that?" Daoist Chu inquired.
"I still need to look the part. If I go out speaking their language but don't match their appearance, I'll immediately raise suspicion," Lin Mu explained.
"True. Even in the Immortal Court, I don't think anyone is fluent in the Osteri Divine Script. They deliberately prevented people from learning it," Daoist Chu agreed.
"Just need to prepare my disguise now," Lin Mu said before getting to work.
Using his immortal sense, he connected with the Silver Mirage Circlet and began crafting a set of attire identical to what the locals wore.
Among the books he had read, one detailed the societal code of conduct for the Osteri World. It covered everything from etiquette and dining habits to dress codes and even matchmaking traditions. This particular book proved invaluable, as it would be the key to assimilating into their society unnoticed.
The book displayed various styles of clothing, but one particular design caught Lin Mu's attention. It consisted of plain white robes with intricate gray and beige embroidery. The most beneficial aspect, however, was that it concealed half of the wearer's face, leaving only the eyes and hair exposed.
With his brown eyes, blending in wouldn't be too difficult, as many Osteri people shared similar eye colors. However, the shape of his eyes differed slightly. To mitigate any suspicion, Lin Mu decided to alter his hair color.
An hour later, he had finalized the design and activated the transformation.
SHUA!
Lin Mu's robes seamlessly shifted to match those of the Osteri Divine People!
"Whoa!" Meng Bai exclaimed, eyes wide with amazement. "How did you do that?" He was still unfamiliar with the Silver Mirage Circlet's capabilities.
"Just an immortal tool. It creates an illusion," Lin Mu replied.
"Nice! Can I get one too?" Meng Bai asked eagerly.
"Maybe later," Lin Mu chuckled. "Once we're out of this world."
"Ah, right! Priorities first," Meng Bai nodded in understanding.
Next, Lin Mu retrieved a handful of herbs and ground them into a fine paste, mixing it with a small amount of oil to create a thick dye. He applied the mixture thoroughly to his hair, allowing it to set for an hour before washing it out.
When he emerged, his transformation was complete.
"Damn! You look just like them now!" Meng Bai exclaimed in shock.
"You look like you dipped your head in gold!" Daoist Chu added, genuinely impressed. "Give me the recipe later—I might try it myself."
"Sure," Lin Mu replied, now sporting a striking blonde look.
While black hair was also common among the Osteri people, he suspected that matching his eye color with black hair might draw more attention than necessary. Instead, by highlighting his hair, he could divert their focus. People would be more likely to dismiss him as an outlier rather than scrutinizing his features too closely.
Moments like these made Lin Mu consider investing in an actual disguise skill.
'Perhaps I'll find one or buy one later,' he noted to himself, adding yet another item to his ever-growing list of skills to acquire.
With his disguise complete, Lin Mu prepared to set out.
"I'll be in touch. I don't know how long this will take, but my first priority is to assess the current situation of this world and figure out exactly where we stand with them," Lin Mu stated.
"Alright, take care," his companions bid him farewell.
With that, Lin Mu stepped forward, ready to blend into a world that was not his own.
SHUA
With Phase, Lin Mu easily sank into the ground. Thankfully, they had been given rooms on the ground floor or it might become inconvenient if Lin Mu appeared in someone's room. He then moved underground while keeping his immortal Sense to keep track of his position. A couple minutes later, he emerged in a relatively empty alley and walked out.
