Chapter 2738 Planting The Sapling
But then again… snakes don't usually make nests like these," Lin Mu sighed, shaking his head. "Looks like they've picked up more than just habits from Ashy."
One lingering question remained in his mind—had they actually acquired all these objects legitimately, or had they simply 'borrowed' them?
Deciding to let it go for now, Lin Mu turned away and flew toward an empty patch of land located between the Violet Mystic Life Tree and the Immortal Apple Tree. The spot was about a hundred meters from the apple tree, a location he had chosen for a specific reason.
"I brought you a friend today," Lin Mu said with a smile as he took out a young sapling.
SHUA SHUA SHUA!
The sapling trembled in excitement, sensing its new surroundings. It inhaled deeply, drawing in the rich Immortal Qi permeating the air, its tiny leaves fluttering in eagerness.
"You'll grow here nicely," Lin Mu assured it as he dug a small hole and carefully planted the sapling, patting the soil around its base.
He took a step back, watching with satisfaction as the sapling settled into its new home. Soon, it would take root and flourish like the other plants in the Sleepscape.
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE
The Immortal Apple Tree glanced at its new neighbor and waved its branches as if greeting it.
Wiggle wiggle wiggle
The small sapling did the same, but due to its size, it could only awkwardly wiggle in the ground.
Lin Mu chuckled at their interaction.
'At least they're friendly and seem to have a similar level of intelligence,' he reckoned.
Another thing he realized was that he didn't actually know what kind of tree this was.
'The Deep Wood Ram didn't say either, and I didn't think to ask,' Lin Mu thought as he examined the small sapling.
He tried to recall what the dead tree had looked like.
'Since this grew from the dead tree, it should be the same, right?' he wondered.
He compared the texture of the bark to the other trees he knew of and determined that it was some kind of oak.
"An oak tree… though definitely not a normal oak," Lin Mu mused.
No normal oak would develop consciousness to this level. There were several spirit and immortal oaks, but it was far too difficult to tell what type of oak it was right now.
"Well, I'll figure it out when it grows anyway," Lin Mu concluded.
As far as Lin Mu knew, oak trees grew rather fast, reaching two meters in just a year's time.
'Considering it's planted in the Sleepscape and was blessed by the Deep Wood Ram, it might grow even faster,' Lin Mu thought.
With that done, Lin Mu stretched his arms and exhaled deeply, feeling a sense of accomplishment. "Alright, time to head back."
As he closed his eyes, the world of the Sleepscape faded, and his consciousness returned to the waking world.
"Up already? It's barely been an hour," Daoist Chu remarked, seeing Lin Mu open his eyes.
"It was enough," Lin Mu replied.
"That's unlike you. I was sure you'd be asleep for a few hours at least," Daoist Chu noted, remembering how long Lin Mu's 'naps' tended to be.
And if one considered his deep slumbers, the man could sleep for years at a time if he wanted to… or sometimes unwillingly.
"I'm not that tired anyway. Cultivating in the forest also refreshed me for the most part," Lin Mu replied as he looked around.
"Where are we anyway?" Lin Mu asked.
They had been flying for around twelve hours already and had come quite far, considering Little Shrubby's speed.
"Let's see…" Daoist Chu took out a map and checked the markings with the surroundings.
Meng Bai also paid attention, as all this was new to him.
"Got it. Looks like we're close to the Emerald Canopy Forest now," Daoist Chu determined.
"Oh?" Lin Mu remembered the name vividly, as he had considered it to be one of the ideal locations for practicing the Litany of the Verdant Forests.
"We should be reaching it in an hour," Daoist Chu estimated.
They all watched with anticipation as the landscape changed. It was currently nighttime, so they couldn't see the true beauty of the forest, but just from the light of the two moons, they could tell the forest was breathtaking.
A rolling sea of towering trees stretched endlessly, their canopies shimmering under the twin lunar glow. Wisps of mist clung to the foliage, swirling lazily as a gentle wind passed through, carrying the crisp scent of fresh leaves and damp earth. The air itself felt different—thick with natural energy, as if the very ground pulsed with life.
And as they continued onwards, the sun eventually rose, casting its golden glow across the landscape. The forest came alive in dazzling brilliance, its true splendor finally unveiled.
Just like its name, a vast emerald-green canopy of leaves greeted their eyes.
The leaves were almost translucent, shimmering like polished emeralds, while the tree trunks were a stark contrast—dark brown, almost bordering on black, exuding an ancient, unshakable presence. The occasional golden flowers peeked through the greenery, adding flecks of warmth to the verdant ocean.
"Whoa! So pretty!" Meng Bai was enthralled by the sight, unable to take his eyes off it.
"Do you want to take a break here?" Daoist Chu asked. "Might be good to take a look around."
"Sure!" Lin Mu wasn't going to deny that.
While he knew they didn't have time for him to meditate and practice the Litany of the Verdant Forests here, a short exploration wouldn't affect their schedule.
"Alright!" Daoist Chu accepted.
"Little Shrubby, find a nice spot to land," Lin Mu ordered.
ROAR
Little Shrubby spread his senses and soon found a nice clearing for them to land.
THUD THUD
His heavy body left imprints on the soft soil as they all got down from his back.
"Waaa… so good," Meng Bai murmured, feeling as if he had stepped into a dreamland.
