Transcendent Dawn

Chapter 678: Playing with Fate

Royal Mechanical University.

Su Lu is flipping through the textbooks in his hands.

“Basics of Magic Patterns, Advanced Energy Studies, Advanced Mechanics, Introduction to Bio-Mechanics…”

Even though these knowledge are exceedingly primitive from the perspective of the Star Devourer Clan, they still pose quite a challenging task for a human freshman.

‘I mustn’t stand out too much, nor remain entirely unnoticed, half a year, is a reasonable period for adaptation…’

Su lu has resolved in his heart to lurk for half a year before making a big splash.

“These are all your basic courses. Come to my lab every day after classes in the afternoon, I need to develop your Super Sense…”

Professor James, standing before Su Lu, stated so gently.

“Professor, I have a question.”

Su Lu raised his hand and asked, “About the yield of liquid metal…”

As soon as this was mentioned, Professor James’s face turned a bit grim: “Correct… its yield is too low, so far it can only be produced in the laboratory at no cost, used only for experiments… but I have faith that there will surely be a breakthrough in its mass-production process.”

‘In fact… the Star Devourer Clan also has information on this kind of metal, even a perfected production process, but it’s not something I can reveal at this time…’

Su Lu blinked his eyes and withdrew.

“Junior Morphy…”

Xila, as if waiting nearby, suddenly appeared.

“Senior Xila… What can I do for you?”

Su Lu looked up, revealing a faint smile.

“Can’t I come looking for you if there’s nothing going on?” An injured expression emerged on Xila’s face, “I was just thinking that… you might not be too familiar with the campus yet and thought I’d lend a hand.”

“As a matter of fact, I’m more interested in some markets around the campus. Would you mind accompanying me for a stroll?” Su Lu grinned.

“Of course… what are you planning to buy?” Curiosity peaked, Xila questioned.

“Some odds and ends, after all, I just moved, need a lot of things…”

Su Lu replied casually.

This Senior Xila is quite enthusiastic, plus, Su Lu has managed to gather some intelligence on the Royal Mechanical University from her.

Like, for instance, Professor James does have some academic adversaries. The finances he has been vying for his laboratory are being squeezed, and his mood has thus been quite sour of late, so on and so forth.

Even the few influential figures within the school who are touted as the kingdom’s prodigal stars, he’s learned about them.

Among them, there’s senior Sharirna.

“Sharirna went on a secret mission last time… She has signed a contract with the kingdom’s military, acting as their commissioned student, frequently going out…”

Quite unconsciously, Xila sold Sharirna out: “That violent woman… she kills quite a number of people every time she leaves… she’s practically a reaper.”

Speaking of this, her body subconsciously started trembling, and she casted a nervous glance around her surroundings.

“Are there missions within the kingdom that require killing?”

Su Lu latched onto the key point: “There are enemies within the kingdom? Who are they?”

“Of course, it’s those madmen from the Natural Society…” Xila answered absentmindedly, but then quickly covered her mouth: “This is confidential… You can’t tell outsiders.”

“Alright, but about this intelligence, did Sharirna tell you about it?”

Su Lu stroked his chin playfully: “I always had the feeling that she treated you differently… That woman…”

“She’s your elder sister, only she likes women…”

Xila lowered her head, subconsciously letting out a sentence.

“Oh really?”

Su Lu had an epiphany.

“What were you thinking!” Xila’s face reddened at the sight of his gaze and immediately said, “Anyway… it’s perfectly normal. There are also quite a few girls in the school who are like that, they have their own circles, it’s very hard for outsiders to get in.”

‘That’s true, after all, this is a different world, the customs and concepts do differ.’

Su Lu didn’t take it to heart. He followed Xila to a small market.

“What would you like to buy? If you’re short on Lire, I can lend you some.” Xila enquired.

“Nothing much, just some furniture, and some good luck charms. As you know, I just moved into a new home. There’s a need for some sense of ritual…”

Su Lu replied with a smile.

He stopped at a stall and picked up a murky crystal.

The crystal was semi-transparent with impurities appearing to scatter within. Its presentation was pretty unappealing.

“Sir, this only costs 200 Lire.”

Seeing Su Lu’s uniform, the seller instantly revealed a flattering grin.

“180 Lire, I find this to be a fair price, and… I want those dried Four Leaves grass as a gift…”

Su Lu pointed towards a corner of the stall.

“Deal! It will bring you good fortune.”

The seller was overjoyed, having made a neat profit from this deal.

Xila could only watch this scene unfold, speechless and baffled as to what this junior was trying to accomplish.

In Su Lu’s room, at night.

He lit an alcohol lamp, placed a crucible on the holder and began concocting a magic potion.

“Morning dew, powdered Four Leaves grass, rosemary…”

Su Lu mixed each ingredient one after another into the crucible and began stirring.

Soon after, a semi-solid substance with a strange shape appeared and was transferred into a prepared bottle.

“Next… is the good luck ritual.”

He lit a candle and started conducting a mysterious ritual.

“Oh supreme fate!”

“I make sacrifices to you, make prayers to you… hoping you’ll make me lucky!”

“I humbly present to you this sacrifice…”

Su Lu began praying, making an offering to the concept of ‘fate’ with the magic potion he just concocted.

This ritual is a ‘good luck ritual’ in this world. Some lovers of the arcane are incredibly fond of it and insist it genuinely improves one’s luck.

Driven by Su Lu’s mysterious knowledge, a response from fate was elicited.

Before his eyes appeared a vast fog, which represented the unknown fate.

The fog continuously rolled forward, enveloping the offering at the center.

The moment it accepted the magic potion, it would grant Su Lu a bout of good luck. This could last anywhere from a day to several days.

Of course, it’s only a ‘minor fortune’, thinking about relying on this to make a killing or change one’s life trajectory is rather unrealistic.

However, just as the fog was about to engulf the magic potion, Su Lu suddenly moved!

His right hand lunged out like a snake and took away the magic potion about to be sacrificed and drank it in one gulp.

Boom!

The offering was gone, and the ritual failed!

Not just that, a terrible backlash followed.

Su Lu felt as though his head was being hit hard with a hammer. Blood began to trickle from his nose and ears.

This was all too just because of the transcendent constitution he had acquired after becoming a knight. Had it been a common human, they might have died on the spot!

But in the next moment, Su Lu felt his head explode, a peculiar feeling spread throughout his body.

The ritual failed, yet it also succeeded.

He has ‘tampered’ once with fate. Without paying any sacrifice, he has managed to get a temporary boost to his luck.

“Is this where the title [Fate Manipulator] originated from?”

Su Lu muttered to himself.

The [Fate Manipulator] does not serve fate, but challenges it! Mocks fate!
