Chapter 778: Chapter 125: The Fleet
The base, Xu Mo arrived here and encountered one familiar face after another.
“Uncle Sun, how come you’ve gotten even fatter,” Xu Mo said as he looked towards Sun Youcai, who rubbed his belly and replied, “Overworked and fat.”
Upon receiving news of Xu Mo’s return, they all hurriedly made their way to the base.
Next to Sun Youcai, Sun Xiaoxiao poked her head out. Now Sun Xiaoxiao was not the girl from Noah Academy she once was; at twenty, she had grown graceful and slender. Having not seen Xu Mo for several years, she seemed a bit shy and timidly called out, “Brother Xu Mo.”
Xu Mo looked at Sun Xiaoxiao, somewhat surprised, and said, “Xiao Xiao, you can be shy?”
“…” Sun Xiaoxiao looked at Xu Mo and said, “Isn’t that because I’ve grown up.”
“Xiao Xiao,” Xiao Qi stepped forward and immediately went for a big hug, but Sun Xiaoxiao dodged away, saying fiercely, “Get lost.”
“Bro, look, she hasn’t changed at all, just pretending,” Xiao Qi turned back and muttered to Xu Mo, and Sun Xiaoxiao kicked at him, but he dodged it.
Everyone around them laughed, just as a delicate hand reached out towards Xu Mo. He saw the refined face with hair cut at shoulder length, poised and graceful.
“Long time no see,” Su Rou said with a smile.
“Long time no see,” Xu Mo replied as he shook her hand; Su Rou had matured quite a bit as well. Benjamin stood nearby; after the incident on Byron Star, they had returned to Steel Dome City.
Su Rou went back to her family and was now being groomed as the heir, while Benjamin joined the military, trained under Commander Ben, and was now the deputy commander of a warship.
Although they hadn’t seen each other for over two years, Xu Mo had unknowingly changed the fates of Su Rou and Benjamin, and of course, those of Sun Youcai and others as well.
“Xu Mo.” Another voice rang out; Qiu Yuan and his group walked over. Xu Mo stepped forward, and they embraced, with Qiu Yuan saying, “The fleet here is ready, just awaiting your orders.”
“Wait a little longer,” Xu Mo said. “Commander Qiu, you’re the supreme commander, I follow your orders.”
“You little rascal…” Qiu Yuan chuckled; he used to be the commander of the Southwest Military District, now he’s the fleet commander.
Looking at this, might he one day have the chance to command the fleet into the universe, leading vast space battles?
Xu Mo, this guy, his growth really was astonishingly fast.
In the back of the crowd, two figures approached; it was Lin Jue and Olivia. Upon learning about the base, they immediately signed up to join, and were now members of the military district.
Lin Jue felt sentimental; back when he enrolled at Extraordinary Academy, he was hailed as the number one across the Eight Extraordinary Colleges, but was defeated by Xu Mo in a Mecha competition. Afterward, Xu Mo progressed rapidly, leaving Lin Jue far behind, especially after leaving Byron Star.
In just two or three years, he built a base, formed a powerful fleet; indeed, Byron Star had limited his development. The more talented a person, the more they need a better platform to showcase themselves.
“Is that Xu Mo? I’ve only seen him on screens before; he’s so young,” a young soldier commented nearby.
“Yeah, an idol,” someone responded, eyes gleaming with fervor.
Xu Mo had done many sensational things in Steel Dome City, especially in the last war. After he left Steel Dome City, tales of his deeds still spread through the city.
“What are you discussing?” an older soldier nearby asked.
“Captain Wang,” the others saluted.
“There you go, Xu Mo, a legendary figure.”
“That kid Xu Mo, I beat him up back in the day,” the older soldier claimed.
“Really?”
“Of course, back when Xu Mo was a student coming to the Military District for training, I gave him a beating,” the older soldier said with a smug air.
The new recruits listened with awe-filled faces, while Lin Jue shot the man a strange look. Hadn’t he heard that Xu Mo caused a mayhem in the Southwest Military District during his training, leaving the veterans reeling?
“Here they come.” At that moment, they looked over to see Xu Mo and Commander Qiu’s group approaching, stirring excitement among many.
“Salute,” the older soldier stood straight up, saluting the approaching group.
Xu Mo noticed Lin Jue and Olivia and asked with surprise, “Lin Jue, Olivia, have you enlisted?”
“Yes,” Lin Jue nodded. “We’ve already joined the base’s combat forces.”
“Your families are okay with this?” Xu Mo knew that both Lin Jue and Olivia came from wealthy backgrounds in Steel Dome City; Lin Jue was one thing, but Olivia joining was even more surprising to him.
“They don’t interfere with our choices now,” Lin Jue said, and Olivia nodded. Her acquaintance with Xu Mo had been somewhat rocky, yet they had also been comrades in battle.
“Lin Jue, you’d better take good care of Olivia,” Xu Mo said with a smile; Olivia had long harbored a crush on Lin Jue, and their being together was a testament to Olivia’s bravery.
The group passed by, and the boasting older soldier maintained his salute, his eyes filled with fervor; even after Xu Mo and the others moved on, he still held that same posture.
“Captain Wang, why are you more extravagant than us…” A new recruit waved a hand in front of him.
“What do you know,” the older soldier retorted with disdain and followed behind. Anyone who had experienced Xu Mo saving Commander Qiu, single-handedly shaking the Southern Army, and driving an S-Class Mecha to turn the tides of the final battle, would feel the same as he did.
