The Return of the God Level Assassin

Chapter 1195: YUNYUE VS FENGHUANG (XXX)

1195 YUNYUE VS FENGHUANG (XXX)

HOLMES blinked, clearly taken aback by Luo Yan's audacity. For a moment, he simply stared, as if weighing whether he had truly heard correctly. Then, unexpectedly, he laughed—a quick, genuine sound that seemed to catch even him by surprise. It was not a laugh of mockery, but one of sheer amusement. He leaned back slightly, a faint smile lingering on his face. "You're bold—remarkably so," he said, his tone lighter now, almost approving. "Very well, I accept your offer. Let us see if your abilities match your confidence. Tell me everything you know, and leave nothing out."

Luo Yan almost jumped in excitement but stopped himself just in time. Instead, he sat down, composed himself, and began explaining everything to Holmes—the attack on Mrs. Winslow last night, the strange behavior of Mrs. Thompson that morning, and all the details he had observed. As he spoke, he didn't forget to discreetly inform his team of his success.

Noctis: [It's done. Sherlock Holmes is now on our side.]

When Luo Yan finished, Holmes was quiet for a moment before a faint smile appeared on his lips. "How curious," he said slowly, his voice thoughtful. "Quite curious indeed."

-----

Shen Ji Yun read Luo Yan's message and let out a small sigh of relief. It wasn't that he doubted Luo Yan's ability to uncover the eccentric old man's identity—he had every confidence in that. Look, Luo Yan even managed to get Holmes on their side. He was simply relieved that it was over. Even though this was just a game, he still didn't like Luo Yan being alone or in potential danger, no matter how minor it might seem.

"That's definitely a win," Luo Jin remarked. With everything feeling like it was at a standstill, finding Sherlock Holmes and securing his help was a much-needed breakthrough. Shen Ji Yun glanced at Luo Jin. The two of them were holed up in his cabin room. Since Shen Ji Yun had to flirt with someone every 15 minutes, staying here was the most practical option for now. Even so, it was obvious that both of them would rather be anywhere else.

At this time, Bai Ze's message arrived in the team channel.

White Marsh: [The victim was a woman in her 30s named Mrs. Bowman. According to some passengers, she was a widow with a questionable reputation. One claimed she had been the mistress of a count before marrying the count's solicitor, a union that sparked plenty of gossip. She came aboard the train alone, and another passenger mentioned that she was on her way to Vienna to meet her former lover, the count. There was also a rumor that she had a child with him, though no one seemed to know for certain if it was true or even what became of the child.]

Shen Ji Yun raised an eyebrow as he read the message. A widow with a possible child no less? It seemed Luo Yan had picked up on the possible connection as well, because he quickly followed up with:

Noctis: [A widow, just like Mrs. Winslow—but with a much more questionable reputation.]

Morganite: [Maybe Mrs. Winslow didn't have a spotless reputation either. Who knows what kind of secret past she might be hiding?]

Noctis: [I agree. One of my individual task is to uncover Mrs. Winslow's secret. So she definitely has one.]

White Marsh: [Maybe she was someone's mistress too, given her secret relationship with the role Ji Yun is playing. Before meeting the duke, she could have had an affair with another noble. The role Xiao Yan is playing might have been Mrs. Winslow's real daughter. Just like Mrs. Bowman, she may have had a child from the affair but, due to society's judgment, was forced to place her in an orphanage. Now that she's a 'respectable' widow, she returned and adopted her own child.]

White Marsh: [There's also a chance that Xiao Yan's role is actually the biological child of Mrs. Winslow and Ji Yun's role. Perhaps the entire charade is meant to make their connection appear more acceptable, paving the way for them to marry in the future.]

Morganite: [Alright, enough with the conspiracy theories. Is your role starting to mess with your head? Careful—you might end up a full-fledged gossiping aunt by the time this match is over.]

White Marsh: [...]

White Marsh: [Shut up.]

Morganite: [That said, there's a real possibility that the Ripper is targeting women on the train with questionable pasts and reputations.]

Reading Su Yuqi's message, Luo Jin frowned a bit. Because he felt like the chance of that being true was almost a hundred percent.

AmazingYoungMasterJin: [Then, I'll probably be the next target.]

They had already considered the possibility that he might be targeted, given that his role was a former courtesan. Since Jack the Ripper was infamous for killing prostitutes, the threat wasn't far-fetched. But with the two victims so far, it was no longer just a possibility—it was almost certain that he could be next.

AmazingYoungMasterJin: [If I end up being targeted, this could actually work to our advantage. We can plan ahead and set up a trap. Though I doubt I'll be the final target. The game wouldn't make things that easy for us.]

Shen Ji Yun glanced at Luo Jin. Since the other always acted like a cat with its tail stepped on whenever he was around, it was easy to forget that he was Luo Yan's brother. And naturally, that meant he wasn't lacking in brains.

Noctis: [I just asked Holmes about that, and he said that if Ah Jin's role definitely has or had a child, then he could be the next target. But if not, then the chances are almost zero.]

Luo Jin noticed Shen Ji Yun looking at him after Luo Yan's message popped up in the team channel. He turned to meet his gaze.

"Don't look at me," Luo Jin said flatly, crossing his arms. "I barely know anything about this lady I'm playing. How would I know if she had a child or not?"
