It dawned upon him what Mira was doing.
Her Echo, however bizarre it was, has the ability to replay the incident that happened here.
What Rex was witnessing earlier, the thousands of moving purple figures, were none other than the fight, the civil war between the Arcalen House and the Narsa House he participated in. Everything to the very minute detail was reenacted.
How the Three-faced Leecher died, how Istvan died, how Garvain died—everything was replayed.
Even when he brought Selvaris to the top and impaling her was included.
Rex never thought this was possible.
Maybe since he didn’t really know the full scope of Unique Echoes’ powers, or maybe he still uses the Mortal Realm’s standard unconsciously. Regardless, this was real, the tragedy that happened back then was replayed right in front of Mira.
And now, the replay came to an end.
It ended with Rex standing in front of Eiran before heading to the Crypt of the Sea.
From the moment the last standing figure stood beside Rex, however, the perpetrator became clear.
Rex was spooked earlier that all he could do to hide his Werewolf form was retract his horns.
Other than that, he was the exact replica of the purple figure.
<Analysis completed!>
<Mira possessed the Omenveil Echo—a Unique Echo from the 100 Long Lost Catacombs: The Omen Heiress Catacomb!>
Ignoring the notifications, Rex unconsciously took a step back.
In the end, it’s going to be plan B all along. I was hoping I could do this smoothly.
On the other hand, Mira narrowed her eyes—her expression shifted from confusion, to shock, and then finally realization. She realized that Rex didn’t come here because he wanted to try his luck on fortune, but to probe the crime scene instead.
“You…” Mira muttered hauntingly. “You did this…”
Upon hearing this, Rex took a couple of steps back, scanning the other knights.
Fortunately for him, due to the ritual, the other knights seemed to be in a paralyzed state.
All of them were awake, but they were clutching their heads in pain.
Rex didn’t know how to do the ritual Mira did, but he could guess maintaining the replay needed a lot of mental power, thus the reason Mira was being helped by these knights. Regardless, this is good for him, it’s going to be a one-on-one.
I doubt she’s not also feeling the mental strain. But to be sure, I should use that.
Giving not much thought, Rex threw the bomb at Mira and summoned another item from the inventory.
Kaboom!
Upon reaching their center, the bomb exploded, blasting the knights and creating a cloud of smoke.
It created a window to make a move.
Following that, Rex summoned all of his Soul Artifacts instantly and empowered them with his newly absorbed Spellcaster Echo. His Soul Artifacts grew stronger, radiating with the power of several Laws, but he didn’t stop there.
Activating the Dark Auctoritas Echo, he pointed the Red Dawn of Kaiser at the nearest knight.
“Point your own neck with your own sword,” He whispered a command.
Being able to train for ten years straight without interruptions, Rex had already mastered both Echoes inside of him and was capable of utilizing them both efficiently and at the same time. Not everyone could do something like this, but he could.
Not to mention, with his massive life energy reserve, he could do this multiple times.
Of course, using the Echo without overlapping it with the Spirit Genesis wouldn’t be as effective.
But with the knight being weaker than him, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Upon doing that, he went to another knight and reached for his neck—his Red Dawn of Kaiser pressing hard against the steel armor to the point that he could touch the knight’s neck through it. Once the smoke receded, Mira came into view again, totally unscathed.
Realizing what Rex did, Mira’s expression turned dark as she glared at him.
“I’m not going to hurt them,” Rex shouted. “I’m only doing this so you won’t immediately kill me!”
Despite what he said, Mira remained silent.
Watching with dagger-sharp eyes, meticulously scanning the situation at an incredible pace.
“I didn’t do this without a reason,” Rex continued. “I was taken in as a prisoner unjustly, so I-“
“And that grants you the right to butcher thousands of innocent people?” Mira interjected sharply—her tone ice-cold. “Whatever justification you cling to, this is savagery. Anyway, I do not negotiate with the likes of you, criminals, so spare me the rhetoric.”
As soon as she said that, Rex’s ears caught a sharp whistling sound.
Bam!
“Krrhk?!”
Rex gritted his teeth when out of nowhere, a savage rush of wind slapped him like an iron whip.
He rolled across the ground before pointing his hand at the other knight under his control.
But before he could issue another command, the power of the Dark Auctoritas Echo unraveled with a single wave of Mira’s hand. She overpowered his Echo effortlessly, leaving him exposed with no one left to shield him.
Rising into the air, her eyes burned with power as purple energy spiraled beneath her in a vortex.
Clearly, she wasn’t willing to exchange words with Rex anymore.
System, what does the Omenveil Echo do?!
<Information about the Omenveil Echo will co->
Just buy it already! Can’t you see I’m in fucking trouble?!
<Affirmative.>
<Omenveil Echo commands the power of Omen, capable of manipulating memories and presage.>
Upon reading this, Rex frowned as he still couldn’t understand what that meant.
It was then—his senses read a high-speed attack coming from behind him.
Something incredibly strong that he needed to block.
However, as he turned around and crossed his arms, he couldn’t see anything coming his way—in fact, he couldn’t even sense the incoming attack anymore. Then, a sudden, cracking sound thundered. Almost instantly, Rex turned around and saw a deep, straight trench heading towards him.
An invisible attack was coming his way, no, it was the wind.
BAM!
“Kuarghk!!”
Rex took a brutal hit to the back, blood spraying in a sharp crimson arc through the air.
He was hurled for half a mile, bouncing against the ground until crashing into the dragon skeleton.
“Kahkk!”
More blood climbed his throat and drizzled down his mouth.
One strike from Mira, and Rex could feel his bones crack and his back muscles tear.
“She’s not at the Eternal Spirit rank,” Rex groaned, chuckling a little as that’s good news—amidst the trouble he was in right now. “The Minor Law of Misdirection deflected some of the impact, or else this could’ve been worse.”
Before striking his behind, the wind attack passed through the golden halo hovering behind him.
From that, its power was weakened.
And it made Rex quite sure that Mira was not at the Eternal Spirit rank, or else he’d be dead by now.
Not to mention, his question earlier was answered instantly.
As the System stated, the Omenveil Echo was capable of manipulating memories and presage.
Earlier, his senses were tricked, allowing her attack to land perfectly on him.
It was a troublesome Echo, perhaps, the perfect counter for Rex’s senses.
Climbing out of the rubble, Rex looked around, but couldn’t find Mira anywhere.
Rumble!
Just then, his eyes snapped left and right when the entire ground began to shake violently.
Rex moved out of the way as the rocks and wooden plates bumped into him.
Pulled by a magical force, the rubble scattered across Dragna Land—began to rise, carried by the wind as Mira made an entrance once more. She hovered in the air like an indomitable war queen, her battle fan glowing with power, the clear source of the rising debris.
“Can we talk about this?!” Rex shouted, not wanting to fight all-out.
“No,” Mira shook her head and raised a finger, ready to rain down the rubble on him. “I will make sure you feel the pain of these innocent people. Then, when I make you understand, I’ll bring you in to face Princess Davina to be judged.”
Showing no mercy, Mira flicked her finger, sending the rubble down at Rex like meteors.
Moving swiftly, Rex controlled the golden halo and expanded it, flooding it with more life energy than usual, and raised it overhead—as a shield. All of the smaller debris vaporized on contact, but the larger chunks still broke through.
Even though it wasn’t a perfect solution, the rain became more manageable.
Charging his Red Dawn of Kaiser with life energy, Rex began his dance.
He deflected one rubble after the other, reacting purely on instinct for survival.
Anything his red claws touched was shattered into small bits, but deflecting all of them proved to be a lot harder than he anticipated. Though he managed to shatter some, those who weren’t even close to him crashed against the ground, causing a minor quake that was able to put him off balance.
One or two rubles struck him because of that.
But with his fast regeneration, the wounds he suffered were closed rapidly.
Fortunately, the debris wasn’t empowered by anything, so his regeneration worked completely fine.
Then again, that might be what Mira wanted, so that he feels the pain.
As the barrage continued, with his arms moving like a blur and deflected the debris, Rex’s pupils dilated when one of the debris that was still far away suddenly burst with speed. Rex leaned his body away to dodge it, but it still grazed his chest, leaving behind a fine, bloodied line.
Increasing the intensity, Mira used her life energy to speed up some of the debris randomly.
Now, more and more hits got through his defense.
And Mira has no sign of stopping either.
Not even waiting for the first barrage to finish, she was already pulling more debris, making the barrage endless until Rex did something about it. Just then, as Rex shattered a massive rock, his senses picked up danger from his right.
Upon turning in that direction, a small but sizeable rock shot forward from his left and struck him.
Bam!
“Grrghk!”
Rex gritted his teeth as he fell for the same trick twice.
Some of his ribs cracked from that, stabbing into his organs, but his regeneration immediately worked.
Ignoring my senses that I trusted for so long is hard. It’s already reflex by now.
Once that hit landed, several more crashed onto him hard.
Mira watched from above as, one after the other, the debris crashed onto Rex like a bullet, clouding him in dust. She didn’t stop, she kept throwing debris, overwhelming him in this barrage. Once she felt like it was sufficient, she stopped and waited for Rex to emerge.
She could still hear his breath carried by the wind, so he’s still alive.
‘His strength is at the level of a Master Immortal Spirit,’ Mira noted inwardly, her brows furrowing as this came as odd to her. ‘He surpasses even the head of the Arcalen House, and with three strong Soul Artifacts—he’s more than just strong. He’s a genius. If not for the gap in our ranks, I’d be forced to go all-out… and even then, I’m not sure it would be enough.’
‘But the vision from earlier shows that he’s struggling, almost dying even. How…?’ She questioned.
Naturally, Rex’s strength came as odd to her.
Based on the level of destruction and the sign of a battle, Mira determined the perpetrator’s strength to be at the Immortal Spirit rank. Since Garvain and Istvan seemed to pose a good challenge, this estimation was quite appropriate.
So, to see that Rex was the one who did it came as a surprise.
Considering his strength, he could wipe out the Arcalen House as long as he got inside their bubble.
But he almost died doing it.
It was confusing since there’s no way Rex could grow that much in such a short amount of time.
Just then, she realized something.
“An Imbalanced-type Spiritual Veins…” She mumbled raspingly.
There was a belief among the people of the empire that those who possessed this kind of Spiritual Veins were cursed, forced to be evil, as the cost of not would be being worthless. And from the looks of it, they might be right.
Mira frowned at the sight of a pair of crimson eyes staring straight at her from behind the dust cloud.
It was Rex, and he could feel the strands of wrath building inside him.
