Chapter 1711: New Captain

Chapter 1711: New Captain

Jack was not too worried about getting his hands on sufficient spirit crystals to power the Jolly Rancher. He still had no idea how Goldilocks gold had upgraded, but he was certain that the type of gold he converted things into was more precious now than before. So they were still kind of rich. Maybe.

Either way, money wasn’t his immediate concern. The ship’s ability would prove to be extremely useful, assuming that Oroo had been telling him the truth. But more than all of that, Jack wanted to learn about the history of the fairies. Then… well, then he needed to address his crew for some very important matters.

Jack flipped through the pages, and finally found the ones describing fairies. Just as there were thirteen human kings at the start of the human race, there were four fairies at the start of it all.

Compared to the many other humanoids, such as the Celestials, the fairies didn’t immediately seem powerful, but that misconception was almost immediately corrected, though how it was corrected wasn’t written.

The document went on to describe how, during the early days of the Humanoid Alliance, there was some kind of conflict going on in which the alliance was taking part, and the fairies played a key role in the alliance’s victory in each battle, though they never directly attacked. It was just that the fairies seemed to be incredible support for whoever was on their team.

It seemed that their role was noticed, for their fall happened quite decisively. The timeline was broken, but apparently it was the first major loss that the Humanoid alliance faced, and the blow was a devastating one.

Unlike the humans, who faced a gradual decline, almost all the fairies’ top leadership was decimated in one go. Then, at some later point, came the curse.

Even so, despite the curse, it seemed that there had been a few prominent fairies throughout history. It seemed that for a time, it became customary for all Dao Lords within the Humanoid Alliance to keep some immortal fairies close by. But as the number of immoral fairies declined, that tradition came to an end.

That short document was, disappointingly, all that he had been provided about the fairies history. Then came a list of their known abilities.

It seemed like, at higher levels, fairies shone more because of their augmentation ability more than anything else. It was well documented how one of the most sought after abilities by a fair was to enhance the ability to manipulate laws using solely fairy dust. The ability worked to anyone, without a use limit, so the augmentation could basically be permanent if one found a way to get sufficient fairy dust.

As if that was not enough, there were reports that fairies could guide ships and vessels to entirely different realms without actually teleporting, similar to how the Quantum Pendulum worked.

That ability greatly attracted Jack’s attention, for if he could take the Jolly Rancher anywhere he wished…

He continued to read, but there wasn’t much detail given about it. Only a list of other humanoid races who could do something similar. As it turned out, there was a particular family of mermaids who could swim from one ocean to another, regardless of where the oceans were located in the universe. While that sounded incredible, there were only rumors of such an ability, mainly because that bloodline of mermaids had been wiped out.

Of course, there was always a chance they could appear again, but the probability was incredibly low.

That gave Jack pause. He vaguely recalled that there had been a minor conflict between the Jotun empire and the Fiery Mammoths on the topic of some mermaid.

He continued to read. Speaking of families and bloodlines, such things weren’t common among fairies because their abilities were so versatile, that any of them could do what the others could.

However, as it turned out, back in the day, there were a few different types of fairies. One such example were tooth fairies, who were adolescent bone fairies.

Jack spent hours reading the document, though very little of it was actually helpful. There were too many odd and random fairy abilities that were listed down, but no explanation on how those abilities worked, so Jack had no idea how to replicate them.

In between the lines, there were hints dropped as to the awesome powers that the fairies had, but nothing concrete.

Finally, at the very end of the document, Jack read something that could be useful to him. Apparently, the decline of the fairies was not random, and not because of the curse either. It seemed that the fairies abilities had been stolen, as well as their cultivation path.

Jack was being very critical, so he stared a long time at the word stolen. That insinuated that the fairies abilities had been taken by someone or something, and were being used by them instead!

As if that was not enough, there were notes and theories written in the document stating how experts from the alliance theorized that someone was trying to artificially make fairies extinct throughout the universe in an attempt to steal the destiny of the entire race.

That, however, was relegated to just being a theory. The only concrete thing written was the distinction between an Earth, Heaven and Celestial fairy.

Just as one might expect, it had a lot to do with their wings and fairy dust. It turned out, their fairy dust could replicate the effects, in a small scale, of Foundational laws when Earth Immortal, Relational laws when Heaven Immortal and the ruling laws with Celestial immortal.

Or, as it turned out, that’s what fairies used to be able to do. In recent times, even though there were a few other Earth Immortal fairies, it seemed that they hadn’t been able to replicate those laws.

Maybe that ability had also been stolen from them.

Yet as Jack put the document aside, he felt like that might not be the case anymore – at least for him. He recalled his experience when he was becoming an immortal, and he recalled the distinct feeling of the challenge realm doing something very central to his existence before he became an immortal.

He felt like maybe he might be able to replicate Foundational laws. What Jack didn’t know was that he wasn’t the only fairy who had regained that ability, which is exactly why the message from Jack the Hellslayer received so much attention.

With the document read, Jack finally turned his attention to the last thing he needed to do before heading out. He needed to bond with the ship.

Oroo hadn’t mentioned it in the letter, but he felt it anyway. The Jolly Rancher was now longer just a ship he had grown, and it was no longer a ship that had undergone random mutations. No, now, it was a ship that had undergone treasure refinement, and so was a lot more special.

In fact, Jack intended on turning it into his natal treasure!

He closed his eyes and touched the ship, ready to channel his energy into it. The anticipation was killing him. He could practically imagine how easy it would be to control the ship once-

He froze. His preexisting connection to the ship was there. Of course it was – he had literally created the ship, and then had lived on it for so long. They had been through so much together. Yet when he tried to bond with it as his natal treasure he faced resistance. In his mind, Jack saw an image of a hamster with fly swatters for hands!

“PEBBLES!” Jack roared as he left his room, his scream spreading through the entire ship, alerting the crew that the captain had finally woken up. Or, well, former captain.

When Jack emerged, he saw Pebbles standing atop the helm, wearing a grandiose captains hat, made of parrot feathers.

“Ah, my boy, you are awake,” Pebbles began as he looked at Jack, but he didn’t get the chance to continue. Jack flew up to him like a bolt of lightning and kicked him right in his bulging cheek, causing him to fly away.

“Mutiny!” the hamster roared. Unfortunately, none of the crew members came to his support. Off to the side, the three Boblings who had once again reappeared, somehow finding Bob once again, seemed completely nonchalant about the fight – something they had learned by copying Bob.

“Oh good, the captain is back,” said Tiny-Sparkles, his deep voice trembling across the deck. “Captain, before we left the alliance someone sent us a deadline to collect 113,000 sharks and deliver them to the Gelgato sea as per your promise. Why are you going around making promises about sharks? Where are we going to find so many sharks?”

Jack did not respond. He was too busy beating up Pebbles, whose fly swatters were more lethal than they originally seemed. They were actually electric!
