Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Want to Give You a Surprise

Jiang Leyi arrived at the door to Jiang Nanshu’s room.

Raising her hand, she knocked. After about ten seconds, the door opened.

“Why have you come over?”

It was Jiang Leyi’s first visit to Jiang Nanshu’s place. The room was somewhat smaller than hers. She frowned, “Nannan, why don’t you move over to my place? The ventilation in here isn’t very good through the window.”

“It’s not that much trouble. I’m only staying for half a month before leaving, and you’ll be here for a bit longer than me.”

“Alright then.”

“What did you want to see me about?”

Hearing this, Jiang Leyi handed Zhou Zhenghui’s business card to Jiang Nanshu, “Nannan, this person wants me to act as his daughter and put on a play in front of his wife, who seems to be ill.”

“I don’t know whether to agree. Deceiving someone is wrong, but I’m afraid I’d feel guilty if my refusal were to lead to his wife’s demise.”

She paced to the sofa and sat down, resting her chin on her hands with a troubled expression.

Jiang Nanshu glanced at the company name on the card; it was a subsidiary of the Zhou Family, quite large in size.

But it paled in comparison to the Zhou Group.

She hadn’t met this person in her original world.

Because she never went to Port City.

“Agree to it.”

“Ah?” Jiang Leyi was taken aback.

Jiang Nanshu turned to look at her with a slight smile, “Sister, that’s a life at stake. It seems like a good thing to help within our capabilities, don’t you think?”

“But…”

“I know what you’re worried about. Whether she survives or not has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to blame yourself. You’ve already offered to help. Even if his wife does pass away, she would likely do so with a smile, content in the belief that her daughter truly returned to her,” Jiang Nanshu said, addressing Jiang Leyi’s concerns and comforting her.

“There are too many uncontrollable things in life. Rather than worry about the long term, it’s better to deal with what’s in front of us.”

Jiang Leyi’s furrowed brow relaxed, “Nannan, you’re right. Overthinking is useless. I was being narrow-minded. What if that lady survives?”

She looked at Jiang Nanshu with a smile, the affection in her eyes impossible to hide, “Nannan is so kind, like a little angel.”

Jiang Nanshu blushed slightly at the praise, “I’m not as good as you say, sister.”

Jiang Leyi approached and pinched her cheek, a smile on her face, “Kind-hearted little angel.”

“Do you want to join me for a meal? I had my assistant order some takeout. How about joining me for a bit?”

Jiang Nanshu shook her head, “I don’t want your vegetable salad; I’m going out to eat meat.”

Dammit!

Female stars have to manage their figures; she couldn’t eat foods too rich in fat.

But Jiang Nanshu didn’t have that problem.

“Then I’ll be off.”

After saying goodbye to Jiang Leyi, Jiang Nanshu’s smile gradually faded.

Was she kind?

Soft-hearted?

Not in the least.

She had Jiang Leyi agree to Zhou Zhenghui’s request as a means of manipulation.

She needed to find a way to visit the Zhou Family, and Jiang Leyi was the stepping stone.

Jiang Nanshu touched her face, where it seemed the warmth of Jiang Leyi’s touch lingered. If she felt any warmth in this world, it was from her few friends, and Jiang Leyi, who shared no blood relation with her.

Her lips pursed, her gaze resolute yet cold. She wouldn’t stay put for this bit of sentiment.

Jiang Nanshu would only stay for one person, and that was Zhou Yanxu.

She had to find him.

“Knock knock.”

The door was knocked on once again.

Jiang Nanshu adjusted his facial expression, putting on a gentle smile as he opened the door, “Sister, do you need anything else—” Upon seeing who was at the door, Jiang Nanshu stopped mid-sentence, surprise lighting up in his eyes, “Brother Qingyan? What brings you here?”

Lu Qingyan stood tall and lean, a khaki bag slung over one shoulder, wearing a brown trench coat. His hair was tousled by the wind, revealing his full, smooth forehead.

His handsome face was filled with a tender smile, his beautiful, peach blossom eyes brimming with joy, “Because a certain little girl said she missed me, to see her as soon as possible, I finished a week’s worth of work in two days, just to come see her.”

Jiang Nanshu launched himself into his arms, “Hmph, why didn’t you tell me?”

Lu Qingyan wrapped his arms around Jiang Nanshu, the laughter in his eyes undeniable, “I wanted to surprise you.”

[What a surprise. It’s more like a shock. I haven’t seen you in so long, your sudden appearance made me think you had forgotten me. Hmph, I’m angry. If you don’t sweet-talk me, I definitely won’t let you set foot in this room.]

“I’ve received your surprise, you can leave now,” Jiang Nanshu let go of him, arching her brows playfully.

“Heartless,” Lu Qingyan chuckled softly.

“I didn’t reserve a room when I came, so now I have nowhere to stay. Miss Nanshu, could you provide shelter for me tonight?” His voice was clear and refreshing, like trickling spring water, with an imperceptible hint of fondness.

Jiang Nanshu reached out to him, her bright eyes full of pride, “I might, depending on how sincere you are.”

Lu Qingyan lifted his hand, and a diamond-studded crescent moon necklace landed above her delicate hand, “For you.”

Jiang Nanshu stared into Lu Qingyan’s eyes, somewhat disbelieving, and pointed to herself, “For, for me?”

“Mm, I saw it at an auction and thought it was pretty, so I bought it. Do you like it?” he replied softly.

Jiang Nanshu’s hand closed slightly, feeling the coolness in her palm.

She smiled, tiptoed, and placed a light kiss on his lips, “I really like it. I love you so much, my dear.”

Lu Qingyan felt as if his heart had been seared, and it was burning.

“What did you call me?”

Jiang Nanshu’s face flushed, her eyes darting around, too embarrassed to look at him, and she stammered, “I, I see other couples call each other ‘baby,’ ‘my dear,’ so I wanted to try it. If you don’t like it, I can change it.”

[How embarrassing. I wish I’d never said it.]

Seeing her somewhat flustered and adorable panic, his heart melted into a puddle of water.

“I really like it. Could you say it again?”

Jiang Nanshu lifted her watery, apricot eyes, “My dear.”

“Here.”

“I want to kiss you,” Lu Qingyan responded.

He leaned down and kissed her, pushing her into the room as he embraced her waist.

“Mmm.”

Jiang Nanshu clutched the necklace tightly.

By the time they came out again it was already eight in the evening.

Jiang Nanshu indignantly pointed at her lips, “Brother Qingyan, look how swollen my mouth is.”

“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself when I saw you,” Lu Qingyan apologized compliantly.

Jiang Nanshu: “…”

Seeing his graceful and proper manner, Jiang Nanshu couldn’t help but feel speechless; he was completely different inside than he appeared.

If she hadn’t said she was hungry and wanted to eat something, she would have ended up in his hands today.

He looked down, saw her pouting, and couldn’t help but chuckle, “I’ll be gentler next time.”

Jiang Nanshu glared at him, “There won’t be a next time!”

[Hmph, like a dog’s bite, next time don’t even think about getting kisses from me.]

“Young Master Lu?” a lazy voice came from ahead.

Lu Qingyan looked up, noticing two people standing near the elevator.

He glanced at Su Ran, seeing her standing by Zhou Yanbai’s side, her face pale as she looked at him, but he quickly averted his eyes.

With a cool demeanor, he greeted Zhou Yanbai, “What a coincidence, President Zhou.”
