Chapter 1701: Chapter 1798: 9 Chains
According to the information disclosed by the woman in the black dress, the remnants of the Pill Saint Palace from years past resided beneath this stretch of ocean. However, after breaking her seal and emerging, the woman in the black dress had killed several of the remaining members of the Pill Saint Palace. As for how many might still be alive now, even she admitted she wasn’t certain — perhaps none at all.
Though Fang Lin understood that this endeavor might end in vain, finding no members of the Pill Saint Palace, he still felt compelled to search. After all, the Pill Saint Palace was something he could never truly let go of, a weight in his heart that lingered.
Even if the Pill Saint Palace had long since faded away in the passage of time, encountering someone from its remnants would at least bring Fang Lin some comfort.
The moment he entered the ocean, numerous sea beasts swarmed toward Fang Lin, among them no shortage of fierce and powerful ones.
Fang Lin had no desire to waste time dealing with these sea beasts, so he released a trace of True Dragon energy. Upon sensing the presence of this energy, the sea beasts scattered in all directions, fleeing far away, not daring to approach him.
The ocean was a realm of countless wonders, harboring secrets that few could fathom. Almost no one knew just how many lifeforms thrived beneath the vast expanse of this ocean.
Fang Lin continued descending, deeper and deeper into the dark abyss of the ocean. The surroundings were pitch black; the term “so dark you can’t see your hand in front of your face” wasn’t an exaggeration. Furthermore, the water pressure at these depths was incredibly terrifying, as though countless mountains were squeezing against his body.
Yet with Fang Lin’s current physique, such mere oceanic pressure wasn’t enough to harm him. It caused almost no significant impact.
“I hope this isn’t a fruitless search.” Fang Lin opened his Heavenly Eye, scanning the seabed around him and carefully looking for any clue that might emerge.
But the ocean was vast beyond measure. Searching within it was akin to finding a needle in a haystack, an exceedingly daunting prospect. Fang Lin’s current effort was the very definition of attempting the impossible.
After all, in such an immense sea, whether looking for a needle or a person, there wasn’t much difference between the two.
Fortunately, the Heavenly Eye offered an expansive field of vision. Wherever his eyes swept, he could clearly perceive vast swathes of the surrounding ocean.
While searching for remnants of the Pill Saint Palace, Fang Lin’s mind also reflected on the events just prior.
He had already faced the Immortal-level experts of the three sects, and they were nothing extraordinary. However, the aura that appeared momentarily earlier was unquestionably beyond the Immortal realm. Moreover, it seemed to harbor a strong killing intent aimed at him, which Fang Lin could distinctly feel.
Yet that aura vanished as quickly as it emerged. Following it was another wave of Demon Qi, one faint to the point of being negligible. But with Fang Lin being a Great Longevity-level cultivator, he could still catch traces of its fleeting presence.
Fang Lin recognized that it was the Demon Qi of the Old Dried Corpse Jin Zhulong. However, he refrained from investigating recklessly. After Jin Zhulong’s long disappearance, no one could predict when he might reappear.
Moreover, Fang Lin had no doubt: whether or not this trace of Demon Qi belonged to Jin Zhulong, as long as Jin Zhulong showed himself again, he would most certainly come looking for him.
If he didn’t appear, it meant either Jin Zhulong was unwilling to reveal himself or that he felt the time to meet had not yet come.
What truly concerned Fang Lin wasn’t the reemergence of the Old Dried Corpse but the terrifying figure hidden behind the three sects.
“If it’s truly one of the three surviving members of the Unparalleled Eight Emperors, then the territory of the three sects is a place I must avoid for now, at least until I attain Immortal-level cultivation.” Fang Lin thought to himself, making up his mind that after resolving the matter at hand, he wouldn’t return to the Seven Seas anytime soon. Even if he did, he would steer clear of clashing violently with the three sects to avoid incurring massive trouble.
Of course, Fang Lin felt no admiration toward those three from the Sky Tower Sword Master. Among the Unparalleled Eight Emperors, figures like the Flame Emperor were the ones truly deserving of his respect. The trio of the Sky Tower Sword Master could not compare to the Flame Emperor in the slightest. In terms of both power and character, the difference was worlds apart.
Although Fang Lin could now contend against Immortal-level experts, challenging figures like the Unparalleled Eight Emperors was still out of reach. At the very least, he would need to achieve Immortal-level cultivation himself, and then, combined with the Ancient Lamp of Flame God and the True Dragon Physique, he might stand a chance against such formidable adversaries.
“Hmm?” Three days later, Fang Lin, still searching in the ocean depths, suddenly came across a peculiar place.
It was a volcano of immense scale, surrounded by scorched, jagged rocks. For a radius of a thousand miles, no sea beasts were present.
Fang Lin especially noted that amid the charred rubble lay a thick layer of sea beast remains. At first glance, they resembled seabed sediment, but were it not for the presence of some intact skeletons, one might never have realized this thick layer was formed from the pulverized remains of countless sea beasts.
“An undersea volcano? It seems to have erupted a few times, but something about this volcano feels unusual,” Fang Lin muttered as he gazed at it, feeling a sense of unease. He then decided to approach the volcano for further investigation.
Standing atop the volcanic crater and peering within, Fang Lin saw nine enormous, pitch-black chains extending deep into the core of the volcano. It was impossible to determine how far these chains reached.
The presence of chains within a volcano was in itself highly extraordinary.
Fang Lin’s brows furrowed deeply. While undersea volcanoes weren’t rare, and even large ones were abundant, the existence of chains within a volcano signified something undeniably peculiar.
“Could it be here?” Fang Lin speculated silently, wondering if this place might be where the remnants of the Pill Saint Palace were hidden.
With that thought, Fang Lin began descending into the volcanic crater, intent on uncovering the truth.
Just then, the nine massive, pitch-black chains abruptly trembled, and an earth-shattering, thunderous roar erupted from the depths of the volcano.
The roar shook the heavens. Positioned directly above the volcano, Fang Lin felt its impact keenly. His ears buzzed incessantly, his blood surged, and even his internal organs felt as if they were vibrating along with the sound.
Immediately, Fang Lin channeled his Sacred Qi to suppress the chaos within his body, his expression turning immensely grave.
“Is something sealed here? A person? Or a demon beast?” Fang Lin murmured under his breath.
The anomalies continued as magma began to rise from the volcano, heating up the surrounding seawater significantly.
But just then, the nine pitch-black chains began glowing, emanating an indescribably immense force that enveloped the entire volcano.
Before the magma could breach the volcano’s mouth, it started to recede, and the roar from the volcanic depths abruptly stopped as well.
An uneasy feeling settled in Fang Lin’s heart. Whatever was sealed beneath this volcano filled him with dread. Though its nature remained unknown, the brief moments of upheaval had left him with a deep sense of foreboding, as if facing a formidable foe.
“What exactly is sealed here?” Fang Lin wondered aloud, his curiosity growing with each passing second.
