Even with how powerful Damnation was, and with Arad being her protector now that she had become one of his void creatures, she was still not so thrilled about facing Nar again.
For once, she wasn’t sure that Arad would protect her, and second, she was sure that even if he wanted, the cost of getting on Nar’s bad side was just too great.
Spirit Queens were known for being an irascible bunch. It doesn’t take much effort to draw the ire of one, and they never forget.
“I won’t say she is alive. I turned her into what I call void creatures. Broken souls that use my void as bodies. Usually, I limit it to monsters I kill, but she was too powerful to throw away.” Arad replied with a calm face, and Damnation slowly moved to hide behind Eris.
Eris was nowhere near strong enough to protect Damnation from Nar, but for some reason, she seemed more reliable than anyone else here when it came to fire.
Nar looked at Arad and then glanced at Damnation. “Make sure to work here hard. Do you know what kingdoms do with their worst criminals? Those evil minds and powerhouses with enough power to overthrow the system? They employ them as special agents.”
She flew around Arad and sat on his shoulder. “There was this dark elf mage who specialized in mind control and could brainwash thousands of mundane people with a flick of his fingers. He used that power to enslave half of the capital and plan a coup, but he failed. Jasmine’s father employed him as his special guard.”
Nar went on and told Arad about several stories of great villains either turning a new leaf or being forced to work for the forces of good. The last one was quite strange. It was about an arsonist fairy who went around setting everything in her path ablaze, being as much of a natural disaster as a great forest fire would be, swallowing hundreds of kilometers like an unstoppable tide.
“Someone entered her forest. She set them ablaze. Someone argued with her. She blasted them with a fireball. She didn’t like the food and then burned the whole farm down. That fairy had spent the majority of her younger decades being an ignorant brat, only satisfying her own whips.” Nar smiled.
“But once she grew older, she also became bolder. She was hungry. She wanted to eat, consume, and burn. She went out of her way to size a massive piece of land, kick everyone out, and kill all of those who dared oppose her. She then set the whole place ablaze and called it her throne.”
Arad listened to her for a while and then sighed. “You talking about yourself?”
Nar looked at him with a smile. “Was it obvious? Sorry, I’m not much of a talker, let alone a storyteller. I rarely speak with anyone to begin with.” She looked at Damnation, “Revenge burns people alive. I know that better than anyone. It’s not worth it, and I don’t care as long as I’ve got Vulkan’s body back.”
“Then you aren’t against leaving Damnation here to help rebuild the Volcanic Titan’s Kingdom. The war outside between the demons and Lava Spawns had wreaked havoc.” Arad looked at Damnation, “I can just erase her if you want.”
“No, they’ll need someone powerful to help them rebuild. Tempo alone won’t be enough. They need someone with extreme control over fire, and I’m not staying here, neither am I leaving Amber here.” She looked at Damnation and flicked her finger, sending a red spark at her.
Damnation’s black void turned bright red with fire. “This would allow you to use fire as well as you could with Vulkan’s body. Your punishment is eternal hard work.”
Damnation looked at her body for a second and then gasped, “Wait! Are you serious? Just like that?” She couldn’t believe at which ease Nar could gift such power. And here she thought that Vulkan was nearing the level of the Fire Spirit Queen. She was horribly wrong.
Nar’s full power far surpassed that of Vulkan. Even if Damnation had survived Arad, she would’ve had no place in this mortal world since she couldn’t contend with Nar.
“Spirit Queens are the sealing of power for their elements. In this world, at least, you won’t find anyone stronger with fire than me.” She pointed at Arad, “This brat even brought another Fire Spirit Queen from another world here, and she is far weaker than me.”
“Now that I’m thinking about it. You’re far stronger than Salamander. Is it because this world has more fire than Yog’s world?” Arad asked, and Nar shook her head.
“No, not really. Zephyr is the reason I’m far stronger. She is the reason why all other Spirit Queens are far stronger and why we bow to her as our leader.” She looked at Arad, “I’m the simplest of the bunch. Her wind fuels my flames and makes them far stronger. By feeding on her winds for thousands of years, I managed to grow stronger.”
“No wonder all the major races came looking to save her when she got locked up.” Arad smiled and waved his hand to Damnation so she could go and exit his stomach to help Tempo, and he took the liberty of flying back with Eris and Nar to his small world.
One incarnation headed with Damnation to explain the situation to Tempo, and the other remained inside the stomach.
Soon, Arad reached the small world where many humans were still recovering. Eris had healed most of them. Amber was flying over the planes, exhausted. While her job wasn’t that flashy, she had spent the past hours finding the humans were burning and snuffed out the flames eating their flesh. That job had put a huge load on her since she was facing Vulkan’s great flames, something far beyond her current power.
Zephyr flew toward them and looked at Nar, “See? It worked.” She had a smug smile on her face, and Nar frowned.
“Why are you speaking as if I said it won’t work? Do you think I would’ve done it if I didn’t believe your words?” Nar growled and sighed, “I hate it, but you’re always right.”
“Come on, I’m not always right. I, too, make mistakes. I just make sure they are rare enough and far too small to cause trouble.” She looked at Arad, “For example, I failed to about being sealed, as silly as that might be.”
“That wasn’t a mistake, just the unavoidable.” Nar sighed and looked at Arad for a second before switching her gaze back to Zephyr. “So what now?”
Zephyr chuckled, “Honestly, I don’t know. I thought that you’d fly out of Arad’s stomach the moment you got Vulkan’s body.”
Nar sighed. “I’m glad it wasn’t a waste. Even after I was lucky to get one and a half favors from you, I’ve ended up spending them here.” She was talking about the favor she earned from giving Amber a fire spirit body and helping Zephyr fight the abominations.
“Then how another deal?” Zephyr looked like a devil about to strike a nasty deal and scam Nar.
Everyone settled inside a small shed in Arad’s small world. The flames were slowly fading, and peace returned, albeit only temporarily. Arad had a bad feeling about whatever Zephyr would ask of Nar.
