Chapter 805: Bold Declaration

As Leo walked into the throne room, he found ChaosBringer already on his knees, waiting for him.

It was clear he had already heard of Leo’s arrival—the commotion at the palace gates had undoubtedly reached him—prompting him to prostrate himself at the very entrance of the throne room in welcome.

“I greet the Great Emperor, the ruler of this land, the protector of the people, the greatest warrior to ever exist, the ever merciful, the most terrifying—”

Leo raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching slightly at the excessive string of titles.

“That’s enough.” He raised a palm, signaling for silence.

“Apologies.” ChaosBringer immediately fell quiet, his voice cutting off mid-sentence as he remained kneeling. His head stayed bowed low, hands resting on his thighs in absolute submission.

Everything about his posture radiated deference—not just as a subject before a ruler, but as a man kneeling before something far greater.

After a brief pause, he finally lifted his gaze to meet Leo’s, his expression one of unwavering devotion.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to care for the empire in your absence,” ChaosBringer declared, his voice laced with emotion. “Every decision I have made, every law I have enforced, has been in service of your will. I can only hope that it meets your satisfaction.”

Leo studied him for a long moment, his lips curling into a silent smile.

Truth be told, he did not give a single flying fuck about the Empire or how ChaosBringer had governed it in his absence. The intricate details of rule, the policies enacted, the administration—it all meant nothing to him.

What did matter, however, was the fact that despite his absence, ChaosBringer and everyone under his command still understood one fundamental truth: they worked under him, and they were held accountable to him.

As their ruler, maintaining an aura of absolute authority was paramount. A leader who was not feared was a leader who was not respected.

And as Leo observed ChaosBringer’s every movement, every subtle inflection in his voice, he was pleased to see the unmistakable tension lurking beneath his composed demeanor.

ChaosBringer was eager for approval yet prepared for rebuke—ready to bear whatever judgment Leo saw fit to bestow.

“Did you get the message I sent you regarding the mana mines?” Leo asked, recalling the last message he had sent ChaosBringer about the location of the mana mines near the ancient Assassin Alliance ruins.

ChaosBringer, still kneeling, nodded immediately. “I did receive it, My Lord, and I dispatched some of our Uprising Guild members to explore and extract its resources.”

He paused momentarily, as if recalling the difficulties they had faced. “There were… complications at first. A powerful beast had been guarding the mines, and the underground labyrinth was unstable, riddled with collapses and dangerous terrain.”

Leo arched an eyebrow, silently urging him to continue.

“But we managed to overcome those problems,” ChaosBringer assured, his tone shifting to one of pride. “Not only did we successfully mine the mana stones, but we also recovered rare artifacts from the remnants of the Assassin Alliance. Some of them were damaged, but a few are in pristine condition.”

He straightened slightly, his chest puffing out just a bit as he delivered the final report. “I am pleased to inform you that this entire endeavor alone contributed enough wealth to cover nearly 15% of our annual budget. The funds have already been allocated to purchasing much-needed resources to reinforce our border security against the demons.”

Leo remained silent for a moment, absorbing the information. A well-executed operation, a significant financial gain, and an improvement to the empire’s defenses.

‘Not bad–’ he thought, as he nodded in approval.

“And what of the border situation with the demons?” he asked, his voice calm yet commanding.

ChaosBringer’s posture stiffened slightly as he prepared his response. “There have been minor issues along both the Eastern and Northern borders. Nothing catastrophic, but… problematic nonetheless.”

He exhaled before elaborating. “The Eastern front has been dealing with supply chain disruptions. Our outposts there rely on a continuous flow of rations and equipment to hold the lines, but due to interference from systematic demon raiders, our shipments of weapons and rations have been delayed or outright destroyed.”

Leo tilted his head, waiting for the rest.

“As for the Northern border, the issue isn’t resources but morale,” ChaosBringer continued. “The constant skirmishes have been dragging on with no end in sight. Soldiers are growing tired of the endless cycle of small battles that lead to nothing. No real gains, no decisive losses—just a slow, grinding war that has started to drain us both economically and strategically.”

Leo nodded, seemingly unbothered by the challenges. He straightened his posture before flashing a slow, dangerous grin.

“It’s your lucky day,” he declared. “For I am here to solve all your problems. If I succeed there won’t be a demon problem anymore, and if I lose, it won’t be our problem anymore!”

ChaosBringer and the gathered officials looked up at him, intrigued but cautious.

However, Leo’s next words sent a visible ripple of shock through the throne room.

“Send an envoy to the Demon King,” he instructed. “Inform him that it’s time to end this fight once and for all.”

“Tell him that I propose a grand fight—me versus him. A battle where the winner takes all.”

Murmurs broke out across the room as the weight of the proposal sank in.

ChaosBringer in particular widened his eyes in disbelief, as he alone understood just how dangerous this proposal was.

“If he wins,” Leo stated matter-of-factly, “he gets the Empire. But if I win, I take the entire Demon Kingdom.”

The murmurs turned into hushed gasps. The audacity of such an offer was unprecedented.

Leo’s gaze was like steel as he delivered the final decree. “The sky is not wide enough for both of us. Only one of us may remain.”

He let those words settle before finishing with a chilling finality, “If he is man enough, he will accept my offer. If not, then we prepare to march into demon lands and end this war on our terms.”

The room fell into stunned silence.

“I don’t want any innocent to die, this can end just between me and him. Hell, he can even bring his overgrown lizard to the fight. But if it comes to war, then there will be war. Either way, the Demon Kingdom shall be mine!” Leo declared, as ChaosBringer’s face betrayed a flicker of alarm before he quickly masked it.

He glanced around, noting the expressions of shock, admiration, and, in some cases, sheer disbelief among the gathered officials.

They wondered if Leo was serious, or was he just testing them?

But ChaosBringer knew that Leo’s words were not a bluff.

Leo never bluffed. But what he proposed did not seem easy or possible in this case.

However, if there was any man who could pull it off, it had to be him. For ChaosBringer had never seen Leo pick a fight that he could not win.

“As you command, My Lord… an envoy shall be dispatched at once.” ChaosBringer said, as he deepened his bow.

‘The sky isn’t big enough for both of us–, what a domineering line to say. Only my Lord can say something like this,’ he thought, as his eyes welled up with reverent tears.
